Mickey Joseph

Hope he can help develop our young guys. We have a lot of potential with Brown, Betts, Hardy, Grimes, Nixon & Neville. If Manning can take that next step he can become the veteran of the group.

Nebraska officially announced the hire of LSU's Mickey Joseph on Friday.

This is absolutely huge. He recruited and developed thos LSU WRs who went 1st round and are now having success in the NFL. I'm stoked. I remember watching him play at UNL while I was a student there. He played with lots of energy. The guys responded better to him than Mike Grant.

No offense to Doc, but he also said we would be happily surprised by this past year's team. :)
I was happily surprised that we hung with some of the best teams in the game. Unfortunately, I wasn’t surprised by the record.

Well what do you think of that ?
I made a phone call early this morning and was told to hold on to my hat, Micky will be in town this weekend to get things started right away.
Also was told that this is just the first BIG hire that is going to Drop between now and the first part of next week !
I asked for further clarification and just got laughter in response.
"Oh payback is a bee-otch" I said and again all I hear is laughter so I promptly told him what anatomical reproductive act he could go perform on himself and hung up the phone.

Somedays my teammates sense of humor leaves me scratching my head.

This should teach me,

At the end of the day I'm glad we're getting some really good choices to fill these spots that's all that matters.

P.S. My cell rang about a half a minute after hanging up on him and I just ignored it. Kate was going out to feed our animals and her phone started ringing and I recognized the ring tone and hollered at her to just let it ring but you know how women can be when their husbands are being bull headed....she answered it. Now I hear her laughing as she goes out the door, our daughter comes in with her Fiancee and they help me get downstairs to breakfast because I have to go to the Doctor today to see if they can get these contraptions off my hands and they start in on me saying "oh Dad he was just having fun with you !" "Don't get so worked up over it" I quickly told both of them to mind their own business and reminded them who's house they were in and how fast this old man could kick both their butts right through the door.

And I thought Kate could laugh. Oh God why didn't I beat hell outta my kids when they were growing up ?
Go Big Red ?

Don't buy the co-offensive coordinator stuff. One guy is going to call the plays and the qb is someone he recruited. The titles they give to these guys are nothing more than titles.
The titles might have something to do with compensation level if they hold a Coordinator title - even if the intent is one specific guy calling plays. No doubt T.O. called the plays - but Solich and others gave input - it is always a collaboration to get all the right information around the play calls.

With all this running game 'coordinator' or passing game 'coordinator' silliness we're seeing nowadays when teams already have an Offensive coordinator, I'm offering my unique skill set to Frosty free of charge:
You're no doubt looking at our new QB Sneak Coordinator, baby!!! :CORN:
The fact we actually might need one is disturbing - but Fumble is as qualified as anyone I know. Maybe an $100K analyst gig where you study QB sneaks from film and write up notes for the OC - Passing Coord - Running Coord to use is the gig Fumble is REALLY angling for.

Thankyouthankyouthankyou, Jimbosc! If I could give your post TEN LIKES, I would!!!!

For the record, I would bring over 50 years of experience to the QB sneak game.

As you all have heard, ad nauseam, this season, my philosophy regarding the QB sneak game is that it begins under center. Science has proven long ago that a QB standing directly behind the center is much closer to the endzone or the first down marker that one standing in the shotgun formation. Impressed Scott? Just give me a call!

MJ sounds like a great get. My only concern is if the incoming OC(s) feel the same way. I was under the impression that the OC was going to be involved in the search for position coaches. Hopefully this has already been addressed.

My prediction
Nebraska's offense is greatly improved next year. "Quarterback" makes far fewer mistakes in crunch time and the WR group shines. Betts, Nixon, and Manning, with better coaching and a QB that can find them in open space, make great strides. Problem is defense takes a step back, missing several key components at every level from previous year. Huskers finish 6-6. Not good enough to save HCSF job. Vacated position is filled by MJ.
BOOK IT

There is no way MJ makes this jump without knowing who he is working with...just becuase stuff hasn't been announced doesn't mean it isnt already in place.

Ok well this is now getting very serious, so many names and the date when these hires should be done looming Monday ( that's just a date I heard tossed around as the day Frost wants these hires done by )

Let's look at this the one name that I hear the most about is Riola and the fact his Nephew is a top QB fits what others are alluding to when they talk about that spot.....that being said however we all know that the Offensive Coordinator slot is very instrumental in who goes where also and when you look at all the O line guys we are offering given that we have no idea now what Jurgens is going to do yet....man it gets muddy in a hurry.

I know what I think about who is the best "fit" for the positions but what I think and what is are not always going to match up.
If things evolve now that Micky is "N" and Martinez has bolted it does lean to a major shake up but we will all just have to hang on a couple more days to see how everything shakes out.
And that comes right from the head man himself.

DOC HOLIDAY.

Jurgens may want to be TE for a year. He's kind of quick off a shotgun snap but doesn't have great track record, especially against powerful tackles. The NFL prefers turnkey investments at OL.

Well, I was just coming to post about....."passing coordinator", and "assistant head coach" titles, and everyone already figured it out for me.........but as for me, I was a little surprised to see these titles tossed around, and handed out.

Don’t worry. They haven’t handed out “Monday Morning QB” yet. But be warned, lots of folks are vying for that one!
