Regarding the University response, if any, and what Bruning and others state in that article: NU has ZERO obligation to try to connect a student with authorities. That's between the authorities and the party of interest... or if they are a minor, their parents or legal guardians.

Now- for reasons of assisting a student, and, frankly, for all the various PR reasons, they might be invited/or choose to play a role... but I can't see any way that an NU department would be legally obligated to assist the police etc find a student or at least force him to respond to requests for contact.

And this from the Omaha World Herald. Seems one Jon Bruning is involved. Lots of things don't add up in this who picture. As I said earlier, I can let it play out a bit, but damn people... this thing is a mess.

Maurice Washington's ex-attorney denies sharing details with UNL; Moos says NU has nothing to hide

It seems to me, Bruning simply tried to stay ahead of this by shutting it down early on until an assessment could be made by Mos real attorney, as this was a newspaper pushing forwards in their money making political spin ways.
Excellent move by Bruning.

Good points, now the question I would have is, when is it reasonable to want to know why you have a lawyer if law enforcement want to talk to you? Maybe the AD and UNL can't ask that question but in the PR environment that sports are in, you would think someone would ask if they could. Where I get confused is why you would (MO and his attorneys) would slow walk this whole thing like they did, because it isn't like this was going to get better the longer this went along... Not to say he is guilty by any stretch of the imagination.

With a portion of the allegations, Mos attorney can now show good intentions by stating what he said, at some point Mo will have to go to CA.
The sheriff dept there went over the judges head, not good.

You still have the judge involvement here, and again, Mos attorney is on record of having a jury if needed.
Mos attorney is waiting out the judge, the sheriffs dept is pushing this, the CA prosecutors, where are they in this?
The lack of the judges moving on this makes you wonder why the local prosecutor isnt more vocal in this.
If the sheriffs dept is out to gather facts, theres no way to move things faster.

Is the sheriff out there formerly a Lincoln police officer? Seems like they have had it out for the team in the past. o_O

I don't know if this has been posted so I will post a link. Arrest Warrant has been filed and Mo will be allowed to self-surrender. First I have heard it put that way. Anyway the other disturbing thing is the seeming lack of urgency from Lincoln on this. Even if you know this is not Mo's fault... seems you would want to try and get ahead of this.

Arrest warrant filed for Maurice Washington; Husker will be allowed to self-surrender

SOC
I saw yesterday that arrest warrant was issued and that Mo said he would surrender voluntarily. One of the first articles I read said that (paraphrasing), Lincoln and/or UNL pretty much ignored their request for information/access to Mo.

Why is Mo presumed guilty. The boy in the video plead to a misdemeanor and served no time. I heard that the video was viral on the net and had been sent to virtually everyone in the school. It is my understanding that if Mo sent the email that is a misdemeanor. Having it is a felony but the chances that many of the students who got it still have it is probably high. I am sure when they got it they did not know it was a felony to have it.
When recruits sign with UNL we tell them welcome to the Husker Nation. At this time Mo Washington is a member of the Husker Nation and we should have his back unless the future determines we should not.

So why was Washington expelled from Trinity Christian School in Texas? Was it involving the video or something else?

On a different note, funny Mo is facing more charges then the two actual sexual assaulters. And yes, it sounds like the whole school had access to the video. I would suspect the felony gets dropped and Mo faces the misdemeanor charge.................and ends up a whole lot smarter about the use of social media along with everyone else.

Mo is charged with a felony because he texted that video back to Taylor. She was 15 at the time the video was recorded and that makes it a kiddie porn crime which is a felony. The misdemeanor is the malicious nature of sending the video to Taylor (I think the text "Remember this, hoe").

I've read that the video was sent from his step-father's cell because Taylor's mother blocked his number. That act makes it even more malicious (the misdemeanor part). Though if it was his step father's cell, it is always possible that step-father found the video on Mo's phone and thought this would be good sport. Does not seem likely because of the text conversation that Taylor and Mo had but we probably do not have access to all the facts.

Minimum, he showed bad judgment by keeping that video on his cell phone but so did a number of his class mates, I would wager. He just had the misfortune of being busted.

Bottom line is today's kids have to learn what they can and cannot legally do with a cell phone and what the ramifications are if they do not obey the laws. That's the world that they live in.

I would have no problem with Mo being red-shirted for a year as kind of a reinforcement that behaviors have consequences (if all the facts are as they appear to be -- kind of getting tired of having to type that but so it goes).

I asked that question yesterday and was just about crucified by a poster. All the Omaha WH article said was for behavior issues. If it was grades, I would think the school would have said failure to meet academic standards. I do not know and would love to find out. Just because if this is an escalating pattern, we don't need another LP scandal. I'm not equating this to LP but his actions escalated over the years.

I would agree about the felony being dropped unless he sent the video to another phone so that he could send it back to Taylor. That could possibly tip the scales away from his favor. Depends on how much of a nut the DA has for this type of behavior and how much of an example they want to make of Mo. Time will tell.

Right now all we can do is conjecture and raise everyone's blood pressure who doesn't agree with what we post. LOL!

It is an all around sh*tty situation and I hope to God that HCSF has had a come to Jesus moment with every player on that team and explained what they can and cannot do with their smart phones.

I dont think so. Mo had maybe skipped classes plus his past two schools and his requirements looks to have gone against him.
Maurice Washington spent years struggling to honor his late father's legacy. Then he got recruited by Nebraska
The link talks about him shifting schools in Cali before playing in Texas, living with his aunt.
I do recall a story I couldnt find and his grades and qualifiers in Texas.
Thats why he was doubtful to make it here, but he nailed it, hes all in when hes all in, and that attitude is what probably caused his foolishness, he couldnt let it go,since his dad died as a young man, something he isnt good at is letting go.
He has to learn when to trust himself, and know when not to.
An emotional kid whos had the world at his feet, while focusing on his past.

To add to the above, I've seen that the original video taker faced some charges. I've speculated that warnings where given on this video and then Mo sent it. IF this is the case, and I don't know that for sure, but if it is the case they where warned and he saved it and sent it, then the DA is probably not going to just let this slide. That may be why they are charging Mo.

They didn't charge the two people in the video, as I understand it, because the girl didn't want to "testify" or "prosecute" this. That will not affect if you have a video of a minor on your phone and then send it.

There are a lot of unknowns here so again I am waiting to make judgement.

Ive read over 25% of high schoolers fit Mos discription of having and exchanging similar vids.
They either change the laws,or arrest at least a quarter of a generation, if its that bad after all.

I do hope it works out for Mo. I mean, geesh, to be charged with a felony over the possession of child pornography. He will be lumped with the 40 year olds with a whole library of child porn on their home computers. Child porn is child porn...but when your practically a child yourself (18 years old) and have a video of your ex teeny bopper girlfriend when she was 15 hardly seems fair to be talking about a felony. Im not condoning what he did.....it seems incredibly stupid, but not register as a sex offender get charged with a felony, throw a guys life away and do hard time stupid.

Normally, I agree, but underaged changes everything, from when Mo first got the vid, and the two or three people in the vid, as there is no age of consent, they had no consent, all three in the vid.
As an underage, filming it also puts it in another legal footing, same for distribution etc.
I see why the judge has drug his feet in this matter, add in the potential the girl went along with it as well, and not knowing the time line, it was probably all around the school before the girls mothers involvement.
Notice, they made sure to include the mother found out right away, as told to the reporters by the mother, but may not jibe with all the students who may have had the vid on their phones, since we all know, the girl too must have had the vid on her phone as well, and she wouldnt be the first to get it in all likelyhood.
We can dig up all the weeds we want, nothing is cut and dried until all evidence is in, in context, upon a certain timeline, but we have very little, and the only guy that did, the judge, has drug his feet into expanding any of it.

Also, was it the guy that filmed it, or the other guy who shared it?
The charges were for having and sharing, not filming.

I would believe that 25% of high schoolers have what would be classified as child porn on their phones. But what percentage of those were consensually exchanged between willing partners? I’m guessing that number is quite high. Mo’s situation is a totally different from that.
