Just had a thought.
We are aways ahead of the planet in vaxes, but what happens when people from other countries come here?
Are we to wait until every person is vaxxed?

Some countries are on pace to have everyone vaxxed by 2024 or so, others, only months behind us, like Canada or most euro countries.

So, we need a number, i know its been asked before, and we were given no numbers, but its easy to see, having major attractions like disney world or various other things that bring people from abroad to here, grand canyon etc, do we just keep masking up, dont allow them in, require some 2 week waiting period?

Can we recruit Canadians?

People need to think this mask thing through

What's to think about the mask thing? It's not a big deal, to me at least, to wear a freakin' mask. I wear it when I run errands, meet customers for drop-offs/pick-ups and I wore it faithfully during prom season, when I had fittings with my high school young ladies. My preference is to not mask up but, if wearing a mask helps to keep my customers and myself healthy then I'm all "N".

I don't want to wear a mask for the rest of my life but whatever works. People in some countries, Japan comes to mind, have been wearing masks for years due to pollution concerns. Methinks, as a country, we are a little weak.

Did you put it on 2 year olds?
3 yr olds?
Make sue 4 yr olds have it on?
How about people with lung ailments, athletes
The reality is, the list is as long as life itself.

For you, fine, if thats your preference, but is trying in active lives

Oh, and by the way, Japans numbers dont look like texas, mississippi or floridas, but do look like New Yorks, Michigans etc
japans covid numbers - Google Search
So, for all their lifetime mask wearing champs, the virus gonna virus

BTW
Yes, they lowered the curve, and yes,the virus is still waiting for the Japanese, so iys only a matter of time for them or any other country that did their 'due diligence'.
Now,they have very little natural protections, and the new variants are tearing them up, just like weve seen over and over.
Also, Japans in it for the long haul, as theyve only got .7% of their population vaxxed, addin their lowered exposuses to the first variants, thus few with now natural immunity, and thats why theyre climbing.

Like I said,months to years

Tell you what, come to the factory I work in this summer sometime when it's 100° out. That will make it about 110-120° in my Dept. See how long you keep that mask on...

Thank you so much for this comment. I mean no disrespect to Uenth, as her opinion on masks is exactly like my older sister (who is a stay at home Grandmother who ventures out occasionally) but it's really easy to be extremely pro-mask when you wear it intermittently for 10-15 minutes at a time a few times a day. Put the damn mask on 8 hours straight five days a week and you start wondering if all these demands are worth it or even necessary. Then you have the pleasure of taking your wife out for dinner and you get to wear the mask again, but only until you are seated, or have to excuse yourself from the table. Quick stop at Lowe's? Put that mask on, vaccinated or not. Then you read this Stanford study innmc just posted and you realize all of your intuitions are correct. These mask mandates are about government control and a few citizens who like to bully and mask shame others, not science.

My question is, have they done studies whether masks cause a greater risk?
Looking at the mandated states, you could draw that conclusion, as the unmandated states are kicking the mandated ones where the sun dont shine, because it too is mandated.

Yeah, it sucks I know. I wore my mask walking my dogs with about 100% humidity. Then wore it while on a long bike ride. Then my machine repairman was in my shop for 4 hours so I logged like 6 straight hours that day. Took it off for an hour or so and then had it on again while I met with customers outside so I think I have a pretty good idea.

My personal opinion is that it's worth it but we all know about opinions.

People are fussing about the vaxs as well. So what's the solution here? No masks, no vax and continue to watch death tolls rise? Yeah sounds great -- no directed at you skrzfan. For those anti masks and anti vax I pose that question.

At a certain point, when there's nothing but children left it's pointless to gene therapy and vaccinate any more. At that point there is an issue of breaking the hypocritical oath with the idea of giving an infinitesimal measurable benefit crosses the line between theory and unnecessary treatment.

I'm not anti-vax and I've even seen improvements in some lingering issues I've had that held on because of having had Covid. I don't believe in masks. We all were wearing masks last year (most don't wear them properly) and we spiked in cases and deaths. Yet since the vaccine or gene therapy or whatever you want to call has come out the deaths from COVID have plummeted. So I'll pose this question, if when there were no vaccines and we all were wearing masks why were there so many more deaths than now when there's vaccines out and people are still wearing their masks? It's not the dang masks. It the dang vaccine/gene therapy/etc that's working. The masks mandates at this point are control/power mandates. Not health mandates.

Mask use was never close to 100% - I biked a ton last summer and never wore one - I rarely got close enough to anyone to be concerned and it was just too hard to breath with it on once I get a good speed going. I saw alot of people being stupid while I was out riding (having big parties in their yard, garage sales with 50 people mingling no masks, etc.) Mask do work - but they were not a cure all. Social distancing, hand washing and cleaning....gotta have all those. NASCAR had few issues with COVID (1st sport to start back up) - they were pricks about mask wearing and rules on who could be around the cars, teams, etc. - yo science actually works. When you see multiple events with alot of people - many without masks or half on most of the time.....well that contributes to spread. NASCAR was able to hold events with people and not have issues - with masks and reasonable rules to keep people seperated. Israel just scaled mask mandates way back (outdoor completely - some mandates on indoor still in place). That is due almost entirely to high vax numbers. So when do we get to scale back - I think the spread numbers should decide. Get back to "green" levels from the CDC and then you can ease the mandates. Vax should get us there sooner than later.

Science is malleable too. To easy to manipulate. Masks have kept other diseases from spreading but a s I mentioned last when I came down with COVID I got it from my wife nurse who had all her PPE on and still got it just goes to show how virulent this virus is. It found a away around all that PPE and she came down with it. I digress. Most never did and still don't wear their masks. Correctly. So what's the point?

I've asked this question twice in this thread with none of the anti vaxers able to provide an answer. In my opinion getting enough people vaccinated is the only way this ends this year. Otherwise yeah it's a long road to it mutating down to a cold. I don't want to wait that long

Simple, you havnt had your vax, wear a mask, no rules, its not as if before covid you wore a mask somewhere people would kick you out.
Death tolls will rise until youre vaxxed. Its the 'law' in many places that currently have rules have the highest death/hospital/infection rates.
The new variants are appearing to remove what little masks brought as to helps, plus any other way people get infected, they are more virulent.
In one of the links, I was rereading how holes in masks are 1000 times bigger than the virus, and if they do stop a droplet, it stays moist on the mask because of breathing, and also sheds a certain amount from within the droplet, so, masks are infecting people to a degree, how much, we know about as much as masks helping, and actuslly, this is whats been happening all along is a possibility.

So you be you, wear your mask until you feel you neednt anymore, but being vaxxed, your safe.
Chances after vaxing is less that 1 in 12000 youll get infected, and of that 12000, it less than a 1 in 12 chance of going to the hospital, so maybe 2 people in all of Lincoln may get sick enough to end up in the hospital, and maybe 2 or 3 may die in the entire state.
These are ballpark numbers, but pretty close

So when you think numbers re low enough, I just gave you ball park numbers of even the possibility with high numbers, when youfeel safe, drop the mask in the trash

Sometime in June, or hopefully late May, we will have enough vaxes in arms fo every person in the country, but being mostly a two stage operation, we will be around Israels numbers by then, where theyre at now.
We are well past 50% of adults with at least a single shot, and since the media isnt exactly spreading around a lot of good cheer on the virus, we alsoarent told often enough that a single shot after 14 days has high numbers as well, between 50 to 70+ percent, and thats why we are seeing numbers drop.

But again, state who were successful early have many more non effected people in them, and are now paying the price,as the new variants don care as much about social distancing and mask wearing,as they are so strong.
The states who had earlier surges also had many asymptomatic people in them who also gained antibodies thouh no getting sick.

So, even the asymptomatic folks in lesser early hit states are numbers, but they arent in hospital, and arent dying, but some are infecting the many who arent vaxxed.

Simple version, states who didnt get it early are getting it now, and they are now testing way way more asymptomatics than they were early on, and the numbers are high, but hospitals arent full, and thankfully neither are the morgues

You wearing a mask is not for YOUR protection. The CDC said vaccinated people don't spread it. So remind me again why vaccinated people wear masks...
Well, for 2 weeks after your vax, the CDC says that I can spread C-19 so for right now I do. Also, they say that I may not be fully protected against the variants (I don't think they have enough data at this point) so when I'm in the grocery store I will wear my mask).

The CDC recommendation is that those who have had vaccinations can be around other vaccinated people without wearing masks. The problem is the same as before -- you're around someone who is asymptomatic. If they are asymptomatic and have one of the variants, BAM. But they feel you are not likely to need hospitalization or will die if exposed to a variant after having both vaccinations.

It's frustrating, as one nearing fully vaccinated state, as I've been masking up for well over a year now. Not my favorite activity but having watched hub struggle with it, I'm more than willing to continue for the time being; especially while we gather more data and get a better handle on what the variants and fully vaccinated do together.
