First of all, if you post moronic posts and continue to post them over and over, people will think you are a moron.Again, calling other members clowns, twits, and morons is....well...very unbecoming.
Back on point. Jarhead brought up the Keller/Ganz situation from a few years ago. I think sometimes coaches can be blinded by measurables. The 6'3 and 6'4 guys with the strong arm that can throw the ball through the swinging tire (metaphorically speaking) in drills can cloud a coaches judgement. Jeff George comes to mind. All the physical tools in the world but a complete head case in crunch time. Sometimes us arm chair QBs are watching the game and thinking "Damn, every time that guy is in the game good things happen"...It's all about intangibles and improvisational skills. Meanwhile Head Coach, who spends countless hours watching the Big Guy throwing lasers in practice is thinking "I better get Big Guy back in there, he can throw the deep ball." Right now Martinez is the "Big Guy" that Coach Frost is afraid to be without. He's taller, stronger, and has a better arm than anyone else in the room. But he is also slow to react, and does not see the field very well. How many times did we hear the stadium roar because there was a lane available to run for 20 plus yards and Martinez would hold it and hold it and hold it before tossing it out of bounds because he couldn't find the open receiver.
It's possible sometimes the fans can see the big picture and positive results with clearer vision than the coach that has been preparing "his guy" all week. But what do I know...I just watch football on Saturday afternoons...
Second your assumptions are incorrect. Martinez is not taller or have an edge physically. If you go back and read the preseason posts you will find that I posted that McCaffrey was faster, quicker, threw better on the run and had better touch on the ball than Martinez. I said if he could pick up the system, he would be pressing Martinez for the start by mid season. I was told by the some of the same clown who want Martinez benched now that I was an idiot, Martinez was a Heisman Candidate.
The fact is Frost decided to Redshirt LM. I agree with that decision. It shows he has the long run as a priority. That Redshirt decision made him the 3rd string QB. That means he gets next to zero reps with the starters. That means when they are going over the game strategy with the offense, he is on the scout team working against the defense. He has not been able to build chemistry with the receivers. He may have a dozen or two plays down but is no way ready to play a game against a ranked opponent. The coach needs to be able to call any play and know the QB can run it. This is nothing like the Keller Gantz situation.
Martinez made a couple of mistakes. You expect something different? I watched Tom Brady make a couple on Sunday too. This guy is talented enough that he was in the Heisman picture. Frost keeps this under wraps but I would bet that Martinez was playing injured most of the season. It is hard to run on a bad leg. When every step means pain it takes the aggression out of you. What do you want him to do if no receivers are open? You either throw it away or throw it up for grabs.
Two good plays does not make you a starter. I hope he continues to do good when he gets his chances. If he can play like that as a starter we will never lose a game and won't need a punter. However, as we have seen with AM, once the coaches see your skill sets, they make a game plan to counter them. I watched Verdal and he looked good on spot duty too. When it came to playing a game he was not so good.
These coaches make a lot of money for what they do. I will take their judgement over some arm chair QB who thinks he is expert because his dad played football.
