The D line and O line is where it's at

I've said it and heard it for years now. It's personnel at these position groups and their development that is going to determine how soon we are relevant again.
I can't agree with this^^^^^^^^^^enough.

Listening to Scott's presser this hasn't gone unnoticed. We have fighters, but we need bigger, stronger fighters up front. We'll get them.......and we'll make them.

Scott's presser comments were music to my ears. People still want to make snide remarks about how Frost's offense will fare in the future against big, nasty lines like Iowa's Wiscy's, Sparty's, Michigan's, and Ohio State's. But there are two components to Frost's vision of Nebraska football: Oregon/UCF speed AND Husker Power. The Husker Power component is still early in its development. When Frosty get's it to where he wants it, look out CFB World!

This past year, Frost and coaches had to sell their vision to the team. The hard part is done, they are sold on him. Now it is Lifting, Learning, and Loving to be on the field with your Brothers! Am I bummed we lost, you bet. I’m more bummed because we have to wait until Fall, 2019, it can’t come fast enough!

While I agree we need better D line play, and somewhat better O line play, Iowas supposed great defense held us to a whole whoppin unfathomable 19 yards less than our porous defense gave up.
Wait til next year.

Gotta get defensive lineman without fat guts. Gotta get in better shape, get stronger, and get more athletic. We need to start getting pressure without front 4.

We need explosive players, even one, with another , strong bull rush type.
Daniels in the middle, ouch

Frost on his takeaways from the game
"What disturbs me right now is that Iowa is a bigger, stronger football team," Frost said. "I never thought I'd see or hear that or say that about a Nebraska football team. That we can fix. We can get bigger, we can get stronger. Give their guys credit. They had three, four years in Iowa's strength and conditioning, we had one year of Zach (Duval). They leaned on us quite a bit in the second half. I thought the defense did a nice job of responding, but I look forward to the day where we're not going to get pushed around by anybody."

This is the key. You can fix some skill positions overnight. Line strength and development will take a few years. Each year will get better.

O-line will be easier to fix. Finding legitimate NTs in a 3-4 is more about luck in recruiting than development.

Can you imagine how'd we'd have been this year WITHOUT Duval?
I know hes not popular, but Phillip was good.
Thats no knock on coach Duval, but he and SF and staff wouldnt be here if the meddling was still going on with our SnC and other areas.
But yes, more than glad he's here

I thought so too at the time -

But listening to what the players were saying after winter conditioning as well as coaches' commentary, I do not believe Phillips would have gotten this team anywhere near where we needed.
That may be.
But just like getting players like Ziggy or Mo Barry dialed in like Duval has done, we will never know
Glad we got him!

I feel the need to bring up my old mantra. Having known a few S&C coaches over time, I can say with fair confidence that they seldom work in isolation. They try to balance keeping their job, pleasing the head coach, and doing what they want.....they way that they want.

Getting a S&C coach and head coach who are on the same page is ideal.......but it's often rare. In theory, the head coach gives his desire for the finished product, and the S&C coach comes up with the recipe. In reality, the head coach (or assistant coaches) often tinker, and micromanage.

Regardless of what happened before this is why I'm excited now. Scott and Zach really seam to be on the same page. Zach and Gibbie have been cut from the same cloth. It was a cloth designed by Boyd, but not finished by him. Zach has been around the block enough to know what he wants........and fortunately, it's also what Scott wants.

I am almost certain we will like what we see in the upcoming years.......providing this staff recruits athletes with the right clay that Zach can mold. Without the right frame, the right muscle length, the right fibre twitch......and right work ethic Zach (or any S&C coach) will flounder.

In short (too late now:)), I think WE WILL be able to go toe to toe with the Hawkeye's, the Wisky's and the BIG in general, soon. Everyone is pulling together now, and providing the direction is correct, that is a very, very good thing.

As the season progressed, the speed players on offense caught on, and they carried us to wins. For the o-line, we stopped seeing photos where an entire side of the line was on the ground without making meaningful blocks.

In the trenches is where we need, and I believe, we will see improvement over the coming seasons.

In watching the 97 d-line against Tennessee, we had four guys that absolutely dominated the line. Four guys, freeing up the other 7 to fill in on runs, and shut down the pass. I’m sure SF, appreciated that, and that is what he is going to try and build again.
