The “Sellout Streak” in jeopardy?

Corporations have always bought big blocks of tickets. Its not something new. I remember hearing about that in the 80s and 90s. And people who say "there are empty seats so its not a sell out". Its tickets sold not seats filled. I seriously doubt the streak would have ever started if it had been "every seat filled". Every game I have ever attended has had some empty seats.
I'm proud of the streak and I hope we continue it. 1400 seats left and a week to go. Yeah those will be gone no problem.
And no it will never be touched. Too many fans would rather stay home and watch the game than actually go. And how many schools even have a sold out streak right now? How many have one of more than 50 games? And of those that do how many had a company buy a block of tickets?

Thank you, Huskergod84, for bringing a much-needed dose of reality to this discussion.

It's nothing new for ANY big league football program.

BTW, was our streak 'faked' back in the 60s and 70s when the University sponsored an annual "Band Day" and invited high school bands to attend a game for free? It used to be a wonderful homage to Nebraska high school bands on the part of the University. I wonder why they discontinued it? :) ;)

Those non con games now are as exciting as watching NFL exhibition games.

I kinda like playing schools like "Iowa School for the Blind." Don't you remember "Pin the Tail on the Donkey?"...You're blindfolded, spun around, then let loose to "seek your goal."

That's kind of how we've been playing the last 10+ years. Sooooooo much fun. Why endanger that with the "seriousness" of a meaningful team? :-)

Yes the sellout streak will continue but it should be scanned tickets not tickets sold. Tickets sold, yep 100% is a sellout. More accurate though is actual attendance via scanned tickets. We lost that a long time ago.

Well, I'll tell you one school that won't break the sellout streak......USC.

USC football ripped for pathetic crowd at home opener: 'Absolutely embarrassing'
Maybe it's okay a few fans didn't show up, at least they sold all their tickets.
Oh, they DIDN'T sell all their tickets?
Our streak MATTERS! Whether 82,000 people are in the stands or 88,000, all games are sold out. In a state with 1/4th the population of LA County we show up. How many donated tickets were used at USC? Not only was the place almost empty, the fans that were there weren't enthusiastic.
I think we are embarrassed about the streak because of our extended mediocrity. The streak just has a little asterisk next to it that everybody acknowledges. When we are on National tv against Indiana, they will talk about the streak and will probably mention that sometimes not every seat is taken. Then they will talk about how amazing the fans and the streak is. Because it is amazing. And so are the fans.

Isn't it about time that we resurrect County Scholarships that allowed the Huskers to dominate college football?

Steps:

1. County Scholarships:CORN:
2. Dominate college football

3. The sellout streak continues :happydance:

Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

Oh,oh,oh! MTW has broached an under-researched part of Husker lore- The "County Scholarship". That probably deserves it's own thread, "The truth and untruths of County Scholarships"

Holy Cow!!!! We have high schools that generate more fans than were at the USC game.
I attended the Husker's road game to Southern Cal in 2006 during Pete Carroll's run there.

One of the things that stood out that evening was that a USC male cheerleader used an electronic megaphone in an attempt to pump up the Trojan crowd. The megaphone was loud but I remember commenting to a friend that you wouldn't be able to hear it at a Husker home game.

I'd rather have the sellout streak than not. And for the life of me don't understand why there are some Nebraska fans that would like/be happy that the streak end.
At the risk of continuing... ;horse

justino nailed it. To echo him: Why? Why? Why care?

To me, the bigger BS is the "official" attendance numbers schools spew every weekend. For example: Look at shots at the LA Coliseum last Saturday and explain to me how USC officials announced the Trojans had an attendance figure that was something over 51,000.

It looked to me that they'd have been stretching it to announce anything over 25K. It was pathetic.

On Yahoo they say there are tickets available for $25. Before anyone says anything, Purdue has tickets available for $8 and Illinois has some for $5.
I bet we sell all of ours before Illinois or Purdue.:CORN:

Oh yeah I saw a video of the crowd where the camera panned around the stadium. It looked like there might have been 5,000 people there.

:happy0188:

And the heck of it, USC is not a bad football team. They certainly haven't gone through the suck we have these last 15 years. They always seem to have great players, they've won NCs, have Heisman winners, are one of the leading schools for putting players into the league, and their location is Southern California. How they have that few people in the stands for a home football game, regardless of the opponent, is truly embarrassing.

Their opponent was another California team. That makes it even worse. Southern California is not a college sports town, it is barely a sports town.
