Super Official Nebraska vs Michigan State Game Week Thread

I agree with (I think) Sean Callahan who said he thinks Michigan State's plan for this game is to get Nebraska into a dull knife fight--meaning keep it ugly, a 14-10 type of game going into the 4th Q. On paper, this is a game I think Nebraska should win by 17-20 points, but you never know how it will turn out until the clock hits 00:00 in the 4th Q.
This is the kind of Big Ten game that -- in our recent history -- would likely end in a 13-10 type slobberknocker, win or lose.

Maybe this will be another one of those games. But I'm going into Saturday believing Colandrea and Company have too many weapons for Sparty to hold below three scores. We'll soon see.

Yeah that's pretty much what I am thinking as well. On paper, we have explosive playmakers at WR, TE, and RB. I think we're (till proven wrong) versatile enough that if a defense shuts down one thing we can shift to another thing. Stack the box to stop the run? I think we have WRs who can beat your secondary. Play back and we'll run the ball for 300+ yards. Play zone and we'll mix it up and drive the field. But as you said, the game still has to be played and this is the B1G and as the saying goes, "On any given Saturday..."

Forget the preseason. It means NOTHING! We were never going to be challenged and the stats are always inflated. As proof, does anyone think Dylan Raiola has transformed himself into an excellent QB?
The season starts Saturday. Are we prepared? Is our Oline ready to win the line of scrimmage? Will AC continue to thread the needle now that we will be playing relatively equal opponents? Can we stop B1G running attacks? Will our ST hold up? Will Rhule make the proper in game decisions?
I can barely stand the wait.
GBR!

A lot are expecting a back-alley dog fight, and Fitz is hoping for it. If we don't turn the ball over a ton and commit numerous stupid penalties at critical times.......I think you're right.

^^^^^^^ NICE, Chris! I feel better about Saturday's game already. :)

This morning I watched "Urban's Analysis" on BTN where Urban Meyer did his segment entirely on Anthony Colandrea's impact on Nebraska's offense.

Urby started off by saying he knows the kid from his UNLV days where his son coaches. He said Anthony bring a boat load of intangibles to his game: Aggressiveness? 10/10 Leadership? 10/10 Passing? 10/10 and Speed?10/10 Wow--like him or not, this assessment is coming from Urban Meyer. I think the guy knows a little bit about college football.

But Urban brought up what we've all known for quite some time. Let's just say our QB1 is NOT six foot tall. :) So the segment was about showing how Nebraska schemes to "get AC out of the trees" to throw his strikes.

Hearing Urban gush about our QB says Hunch and I and some others here were right all along when we opined Colandrea should've always been our top choice. There are times--and guys like AC and Doug Flutie are prime examples--where talent and moxie trumps talent and height.
Hunch just posted the highlights.

I think back to the last couple years where DR would stand like a statue and take the sack - or wait too long to try to move - and I think how many Nebraska games could have turned out differently if that hadn't happened. It's comforting to think those days are likely over, and that AC will make a decision and go, right or wrong. I truly believe this is the sort of QB play that's been lacking, and my hope is that it will make a big difference on the field. We'll see.
