I know we'll rehash this all week but some quick thoughts.
Holding IU to 20 was good. GIving up 4 big pass plays was not - 2 for TDs....crushing. Seemed that once Conn got hurt our back end D let down. Not blaming Benning - looked more like we didn't have the calls rights - guys not in right places to me. But gal darn did we stop their run game and gave the team a chance.
All the good things that happened on offense - we still only scored 17 points. We won't win many B1G game scoring 17 - they are a good defense and I think AC10 got beat up a bit by 4th quarter. He was razor sharp to start and was not by end of game. Credit to IU to hang in and smack our QB when they could. Also - Gilmer disappeared - assuming IU did all they could to ensure he didn't take over the game.
Special teams were good - outside of the missed FG - which was huge in the final score but not why we lost. Those big pass plays just killed us.
Overall - I thought IU was the better team in the 4th quarter and the score showed that. We'll need to put on our man pants to win these games.
Lots of good things happened and we know now this is a pretty good team. This is also a team with plenty of tough games left so learn, improve and get after the Ducks. Especially the QB if it happens to be DR.
I could roast Rhule for going for it on 4th and 9 with enough time to left to have another possession - but I think he was concerned we would not get the ball back so decided not to punt......in the end we had the ball and time to put a drive together we just could not do it. But it cost us a ton of field position.
