This week cranky Coach Norman Dale brings his upstart Hoosiers to face off against against the "A Few Votes Short of 25th" Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Yw

Is it an omen that Hoosiers took place in 1951, the year Nebraska went 2 - 8? Or, does the movie being filmed in 1986 mean that the huskers will beat up on this small-town hopeful like the Broderick Thomas Wrecking Crew & Friends of yore?

By the way, what is it with IU and cranky coaches? I'm looking at you Knight and Cignetti!

If you've ever been to been to Bloomington (Indiana, not Minnesota, home of the Mall of America), you might understand the crankiness. It's a college ag-town in the middle of fields ala Kearney, except for a rather grand campus with buildings made of Indiana Limestone. the same limestone used to build or feature prominently in Washington DC buildings including The Lincoln Memorial, The National Cathedral, The Jefferson Memorial, The National Archives and the Pentagon to name a few.

Last year, Hoosiers football certainly had the Big O. Before that, The Big O was one of the greatest of the greats from Crispus Attucks High School.

Let's face it - the Huskers better get healthy and Indiana better not have learned from the Maryland "We Had You By The Short Hairs Until We Didn't" Turtles Terps how to blow by our coverage like Durante's nose through discount kleenex.

Of course, this game won't have one of the worst officiating crews ever to crap the bed "grace" the field like this past weekend. Or.... will we?

An 11a kick where the Huskers are current 9.5 dogs.

During the Riley (Dark Ages) we went to Bloomington, and it was the first time we ever played Indiana as a Big Ten member. We think that was one of our best road trips ever. The campus was beautiful, kind of what you would see in a movie. You are right, the place really has a small town feel. It was their homecoming, and we actually met a couple of former IU players, and one had some hilarious stories about Lee Corso when they played us in the 1970’s. They also had a cool area like a park with lots of trees for tailgating by the stadium.

So, early line on the betting is Indiana favorites by 8.5.

Lower than I would have thought.

Cool. Let it be higher. Let the players use this a motivation to beat Indiana. I mean they should be motivated as the defending National Champs are coming to their house. This is the opportunity to show the nation we are back. Beat them and everyone is now talking about us. Lose and more the same.

Egad. It's an early game to boot. I always have tons to do on Sat morning/early afternoon. I'll have to grant some of my Regent powers to one of you lugs so you can fill in for me if I have to scrub a toilet or something while the game is on.

Not predicting (yet) it's gonna happen. But chew on THIS...

Nebraska is the very definition of A TRAP GAME for the defending national champion, Indiana:
  • Like the Huskers in 1996, the Hoosiers are on (I think) a 21 game winning streak, when they come to Lincoln. (We were on a 26 game streak when we went to into a hostile environment in Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, AZ. and GOT BEAT.)
  • This will be back-to-back ROAD GAMES for Indiana.
  • The Hoosiers played a LATE GAME on the East Coast last Saturday night and will turn around and play an EARLY GAME in Nebraska the next Saturday morning.
  • The Hoosiers could get caught LOOKING AHEAD to playing Big Dawg, Ohio State, in Bloomington the weekend after Nebraska.
  • INTERCEPTIONS were an issue for Josh Hoover, Indiana's new QB, coming from TCU. So far, he has yet to throw one for the Hoosiers. But at TCU, Hoover was MUCH MORE PRONE to throw his INTs ON THE ROAD vs at home.
  • UNLV's Colandrea-led offense scored 30 POINTS IN AN UPSET HOME VICTORY over UCLA last season.

Love where your heads at Doc. I really hope that we catch them on an off day.
Pretty sure though the facts remain it'll take us playing with extreme energy and enthusiasm which is tough at 11am, and it comes down to excelling in the basics with five or six broken plays that we take advantage of. Hoping for our best game on the OLine, stopping the run on defense, limiting turnovers, limiting penalties, and excellent Special Teams. We have been good and bad in each so far this year, many times in the same game, plus our kicker is below average at best. Not horrible, but he's definitely below average.

There was a lot of Husker arrogance going into Sun Devil Stadium back in 96, even the fans were loaded with it, I was there. The world needs more Cignatti commericials

The spread opened at Nebraska being a 9.5 underdog at home. I am not "confident" at this point but I do think we'll play much better than we did the first time Cigaretti and Rhule faced off in Bloomington. IU is legit on D. Their offense has playmakers but I think if you control the run game and get after their QB - you can make it a long day for their offense. Might come down to a couple key plays.

Perfectly said Doc. This may be why the spread is down to 7.5 at BetMGM (parent company of our local casino). That number doesn't interest me, but the money line at Nebraska +250 sure does. I really like the O/U at 52.5 as well. For some reason I think this game has the potential to be a shootout, somewhere in the neighborhood of 40-27. This week has a lot of potential!

Indiana's running game is impressive. They will test Nebraska because they won't go away from it even if they get slowed down or even shut down for a bit. In the Northwestern game they had trouble when Childs was able to extend passing plays with his mobility. That might help Nebraska if AC can do the same. It's going to be adult grown man football this week. We'll see if Nebraska can hang or if they are still sitting at the kid's table.

You can say this about any game but, to me, it'll be critical to get off to a fast start. Last year against Michigan, we had all the momentum going in and blew it--and spent the rest of the first half playing catch-up.

We need to put Indiana on their heels early and force their QB to have to make some plays. We need to make Josh Hoover show he can perform in a hostile environment. He's good, but he's no Mendoza.

I'm hoping the Uenth magic continues. She needs to have ALL her chores done before the game.
Here's how it works. I never have all my chores done because I'm still basically a one person show. Hub's doing better but he can't clean bathrooms, sweep and mop floors and all the other crap I do, so I try and do things as smart as I can to get the most done with my time. These days I'm a little slower because toe is still broken, though better, but that means I can't go 99 mph like I prefer to do.

Anyway, I promise to spend as much time in front of the screen as I can but I do have crap that has to be done and that's just how life is for me right now.

I understand and apologize. We'll just have to muddle through and win by playing superior football.
You got us to 5-0, can't complain.:yay:

No worries. I know it's all in good fun. I promise to do as much as I can as early as I can. I want to be able to watch as much of the game as possible and love carrying on in chat with everyone. I laugh so hard some times!
