Super Official Husker Gameday Thread.

Purdue is Killing Iowa! Should of had another TD the last series. Wonder if we will win another game?
Iowa being Iowa. They are perennially 8-4/9-3. Air is way too thin for Iowa in the Top 10. If Iowa defense doesn't cause turnovers they are very beatable. I expect a one score loss when the Huskers play them.

One final post about this point shaving and I am done...

As I watched the game, there were multiple times where Nebraska moved the ball effortlessly. Then, inexplicably, we'd stall for no reason because of a self-inflicted penalty, mistake, or missed play.

Now I hear you saying that is merely a part of the game. I agree, on occasion it is. But as I watched the Neb-Minn game, it became very apparent we were purposefully playing bad. Because, when we wanted to score, we did so effortlessly. I dunno, something in Lincoln ain't right. No team has THIS MUCH "bad luck."

Okay...I am done. Sorry if my posts about this offends anyone, but I needed to say this out loud because I can't stop thinking about it.
99 I understand your point that this happens too much that it can’t be chance, but it does remind me of one of Malcolm Gladwell’s books in which he analyzes why some some teams choke all the time…and that is us. This article introduces it. Applies to AM and special teams among others..
Choke vs panic in sports

So I read the summation you linked to... very interesting.

Think about it logically. What is more probable? That Nebrasks is absolutely the most unlucky team this season, or there are players sabotaging the team from within?
I don’t buy the premise that the team is unlucky. Games are lost by bad play calling, poor execution, and mental and/or physical mistakes.

While point shaving is possible, coming to the conclusion that it’s the reason for the losses is conspiracy theory insanity.

I don't like the bad luck Baby Poop. But I think 99's correct that games were lost because players were not giving it their all in the Pelini days. Maybe rather than point shaving, we should just figure that for whatever reason, players are still playing half assed again. Something is rotten in the State of Nebraska, whatever the cause may be.

It's a theory. It makes more sense that most of the other theories that have been bandied around. I want to hope not but NOTHING surprises me anymore.

If it's true, we'll all eventually know it. If it's not true, we'll start winning these games that we're pissing away right now.

It's frankly idiotic. There is no evidence to support it. None.

Have you played football before? Do you have any idea how tough it would be to throw a game or orchestrate the final score?

And having seen this team so badly at trying to do anything right...now you think they are evil geniuses that have the supernatural power to control both the outcome and the final score?

So it doesn't make any sense. And it's particularly sh*tty to accuse a bunch of 20 year old kids out there playing for us of being cheats and criminals with no evidence.

I wouldn't say insanity. For it to be insane, it would have to involve countless people, over every sector, working in a coordinated manner. In our case, all it takes is one or two players making "mistakes" at a few key points. Mistakes that, in one game, can be chalked up to unfortunate circumstances. But over a now eight games, where perplexing mistakes in key moments have led to almost exclusively one score losses... Just seems really sus.

I'm thinking that point shaving isn't quite right but something is not right. Yeah there's some crappy coaching calls but that doesn't explain everything. I'm not thinking that it's done intentionally but you think that maybe players aren't tired of what is going on and just don't give 150%. That would account for the being able to for several plays and then falling apart in the clutch. FCS, I just don't know. Grasping for explanations, I guess.

It's insane, idiotic, and sh*tty to be speculating like that with no evidence. If you have ever played sports, you would know that participating in fixing a game is one of the worst things you can accuse a player or coach of. For a supposed fan to come here and hurl allegations like that against Husker players...again with no evidence...is pretty low.

We've been snakebit, mistake prone, and mentally weak since around 2001. Nothing new to see here. Except your new and idiotic theory.

Ah, the old "have you played" card...gtfo.

And for the record, all it takes is one or two players making a few mistakes at a few key moments.

F*ing free, acting like he's some former NFL All Pro Hall of Famer...

dID yOu pLAy? :happy0188:

I never played beyond high school. But your complete ignorance about how this would have to work proves you never played at all.

There are eleven guys on the field at a time. You think a guy's teammates won't notice someone tanking? There are dozens of players and coaches watching from a sideline. You think they won't notice either?

So who consistently makes mistakes? The most obvious one is Martinez. I get frustrated with him as well, but as a person he seems like a complete class act. So I simply don't buy that he would be involved in point shaving or game fixing, He has too much character...certainly more than someone who would accuse him or his teammates of despicable and criminal behavior with no evidence.

You clearly have a chip on your shoulder about the fact you haven't played football. But it is extremely relevant to this discussion and your ignorance. When you play a very physical game like football, the bonds you form with your teammates are sacred. You go to war with those guys. You sweat through practices, bleed through games, and fight through injuries. You laugh, cry, celebrate, and live a lot of your life with those teammates.

The idea that someone would take money to sell out those teammates is horrifying. The idea that a Husker would is even worse. So unless you have something to back up your moronic theory, my advice is to apologize to the board and never mention that again.

I’ve seen you mention Occam’s Razor multiple times over the years. But now, you’re not giving enough credit to the much more likely reasons. Poor coaching, poor player development, and some people not having the clutch gene to name a few.

No offense taken, but if I may ease your worried mind. Your theory has no basis of reality in the gambling world. Do you realize Nebraska is 5-3 against the spread (ATS) this year? Gambling requires two parties agree to a wager. Who is the genius taking the Huskers straight up against the likes of MSU, Oklahoma, and Michigan, only to be screwed by a few huskers playing well but making just enough mistakes to lose a heartbreaker? The "fix" cannot be in when an underdog covers the spread and loses a tight game. The only way your theory is even a possibility is if the Huskers were the heavy favorite and did just enough to lose (think Fryar dropping the pass in the end zone against Miami). There is absolutely no possibility of a bad team with a losing record playing just poorly enough to lose to ranked teams that makes a wager of this sort even possible.

Now I'm done.
