Sunday Morning Thoughts - Post Oregon

Let's not pretend this is the same Oregon team that everyone thought they would be when they were ranked preseason top 3 with a potential #1 pick at QB. It's not. It's not a silver lining to lose to a "name" team starting a terrible #3 QB. Oregon played the whole game to get to the 4th quarter and let Nebraska do what it's done recently, fall apart. It was a loss that frankly we all saw coming during the game. Most fans were too busy wondering how many times they could call Raiola fat boy or find some meme about him while we watched him manage two 15 plus play drives to win in the 4th quarter because he has coaches that put him in situations to win.

2 weeks in a row better head coaches just waited, made slight adjustments and watched a head coach and coaching staff melt down at the end.
We can pick apart individual play calls - when did we blitz or not blitz - but we failed to stop the run effectively in the 4th quarter. With zero run game of our own and only scoring 14 points. We cannot run the ball on good defenses - that is pretty obvious. You can say "that is coaching" - I don't think we have the guys to do it. I lost count of bad blocks Oregon ran past about mid 3rd quarter. Yeah the oline is better but Gabe has plenty of work to do. Also on the RBs too - but it is NOT just coaching or play calling.

Frankly - this problem of not winning close games will take care of itself. Either Rhule and his staff figure out how to get it done or Rhule will be fired after next season. Pretty simple - that is the clock he is on IMHO. The money folks aren't going to let this continue beyond next season if he can't figure it out. Mix in a Top 25 win as well - if he can't pull that off he's gone IMHO.

I've been thinking about Oregon's strategy for the game and wondering if they didn't intentionally do what they did with the QB situation. It was like Muhammed Ali doing the rope a dope against George Foreman, tiring him out, and then knocking him out in the 8th round. I don't know if Lanning is that cunning but he's awfully good so maybe.

And yes, the fat boy memes did not work but I will continue to post them if they are funny.

It was the INT and Thomas getting absolutely destroyed on the return that put him on the bench. Clean hit too - terrible blind side block call and not the only bad officiating call in that game.

I needed that.
