Spring games are spring games...but it was hard not to be encouraged by the performances we saw.

Colandrea. He's going to bring a jolt of energy to the offense. He's quick -- AND a quick blinker. That combination is going to give the offense something it hasn't had in quite a while. Yeah, he had an interception--but if you see the replay, he put the ball right in the receiver's hands (who didn't catch it.)

The Defense. You can't really get a sense of any D during spring ball but they looked disciplined and well-coached. For a spring game, I thought they tackled well.

Attendance. Clearly, the lowest attendance that I can ever remember. But a lowkey Spring (IMHO) is not a bad thing.

The RBs. The whole room looked good to me--especially our new freshman, Rule. He's the Real Deal!!!

I only caught the second quarter. Rule has potential. He is green on his reads but he is built different than the itty bitty by committee others. Other than a Glimpse of some acceleration by Ives, there wasn't much flash from the committee. Barney and Clark need help, otherwise its going to be a famine in the passing game. Just didn't see anything from the QBs to get excited about, and honestly some cringe. The coverage was a bad angle to get a good read on the OL or D.

Oops...

Quinn Clark. Forgot to mention his HIGHLIGHT REEL, one-handed catch in the second quarter!
Don't forget Connor Booth, he had 87 yards on 15 carries with a 32-yard TD. I think he will only get better and is a great short yardage option with his size.

  1. Snaps were by far the worst thing that stood out.
  2. WR was the worst group. They still can't get open. Coverage was great on a lot of passing plays.
  3. Tackling as good.
  4. OL had a lot of movement off the ball with the first group.
  5. It would be interesting to see how inconsistent the O is with the first group. I think they looked good.
  6. I used to live in Las Vegas and attended UNLV as a grad student. I watch about 7 or 8 UNLV games a year. AC is dynamic, but can be reckless at times. He is by far the best QB of the 3. I have no idea who is #2.
  7. D was consistent. Spring games are not going to highlight Defenses. I wish they used the scoring system that allows for the D to score. I think they used it a few years back.

We have good I/b W/r and competition at QB. Lateef started out slowly at the end of the game was great. Colandria looked but has more snaps than all the rest combined. Looks like M R know s now how to wear a ball cap now if he can only ditch that midde eastern look.

A google search showed spring game attendance at 27,188.

As said previously in this thread that is far below Nebraska's standards but exponentially better than 99% of all other schools.

I think the low spring game attendance is mainly due to utterly sh^^ way we ended the 2025 season. This is the first spring game I have missed since they began televising it and I don't care that I missed it. (I can't believe I just said that.)

I also think last spring's debacle didn't help things. Rhule and Co (or whomever was in charge of that decision) needs to revisit that old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." -- so far as I know we're the only NCAA school who was able to garner that kind of attendance at a spring game. Whoever broke it should have been disciplined severely. The descriptive @sshat also comes to mind.

I can remember when Spring games were mid April, skies were blue with puffy clouds, light breeze and temps in the 70’s with game starting at 1:00. Tailgating was amazing. Families would almost pack the stadium. They didn’t have to get up at 4:37 in the morning to make a cold breezy, 11:00 AM game. That could be one reason why attendance was down along with a sour/disappointing 2026 ending.

I have only one take-away from the Spring game: With our mobile QB’s, the number of sacks should diminish greatly next year. Maybe we can build on that, gotta be positive.

I think the BB game in Houston may have left some diehard fans with no chance to plan the Spring Game. The travel and time involved with tourney may have led to a time/energy crunch that caused some common sense decisions to forego the Spring Game.

On a side note, I think someone in the prediction thread used google to find the estimated attendance. Google was way off, heheh.
