Sizing up the Huskers B1G opponents...

Jeopardy, I don't want to speak for Chris and the other admins, but I have a pretty strong suspicion that you have blanket approval to go OT with stories from your past anytime.

Well, I won't abuse my time in the forum. Having spent about half my life in La La Land, I DO have a lot of crazy stories, though. If the opportunity arises, and I can connect a story with Husker football, I might relate one from time to time.

We had an Oscar-winning director who shall go nameless on Celebrity Jeopardy years ago who tried to get one of our pretty young production assistants to do drugs with him in the dressing room prior to taking the stage. (I think I wrote a college football category for that telecast, thus a Husker connection.)

As Husker99 said earlier in this thread, I like our chances against Michigan State and Maryland in the next two games. A 5-0 start looks very doable. Follow that with a 4-3 or 3-4 record to end the conference run and we'll stand at 9-3 or 8-4 leading into a bowl game. A much needed improvement over the past few years. Of course, it depends on how we play in the next two games.

Oh yeah!

We have a dangerous team against every team we play. Does it translate to wins? To Be Determined.

But it says to me that there is no game on our schedule where we automatically chalk up an "L", no matter what the hell Husker99 says. :p;)

Indiana, Oregon, Ohio State, and Iowa have entered the chat. :p

In all seriousness though, Indiana (I still cannot believe I am saying it) won the natty last year and they played at such an elite level. This year, they (like us) played three lesser competition non-cons but they lost their stud Mendoza to the NFL. So Indiana will be tough from a talent standpoint, but the game is in Lincoln which should help. I have a tendency to think we will lose to Indiana, but who knows. It's why I say that's why the games are played, not simulated. And Indiana is a difficult team to get a read on because you can't tell just how good they really are, yet.

Oregon, this game isn't looking as impossible to win as it did prior to the season. But there is a month of football to be played before the Huskers and Ducks meet and I fully expect the Ducks to pick up their game significantly as they enter B1G play. Still though, Boise State and Oklahoma State showed that the Ducks defense is not a stifling iron curtain. You can move the ball and score points and therein lies Nebraska's puncher's chance.

Ohio State...no shot at winning. None. The Buckeyes are just on a level of talent and coaching that Nebraska doesn't have. If Nebraska plays smart and puts in max effort, I think they can keep it close and having the game in Lincoln will help. But yeah, pretty much a guaranteed L.

Iowa...we should have beaten the these guys at least 5x in the past 10 years, but only have 1 win because we self-implode and give the game away. Until Nebraska proves they won't self-implode and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, there is really no reason to think the Husker players can get over that bugaboo of doubt.

All this to say, I am cautiously optimistic about how we're gonna do in B1G play, but that optimism can turn south real quick.

Okay, c'mon now...talk of Nebraska making the CFP? Let's get to that bridge before we try to cross it.

This team is good enough to pull off a couple of Top 25 wins. We also could end up 6-6. One game at a time. Maryland next - let's get after 'em!! Watched Indiana/NW. Indiana still has a really good D (but a mobile QB did hurt them at times as did TE pass game). QB is decent but not a Heisman candidate. I don't think they are as good as last season on offense. If you don't let them get up early so they can tee off on D.......could be a heck of a football game.
