Sizing up the Huskers B1G opponents...

The article in the above posted link pretty much sums up my thoughts.

I like our chances to beat Sparty and the Terps. Not saying those games will be easy, but I think we should be favored in both.

The Indiana game will be, I think, the truest test of DC Rob Aurich's defense. I think that will be the game where we'll know if this defense is upper echelon legit or merely a pretender.

And regarding the Oregon game, it doesn't look nearly as daunting as it did prior to the season. Caveat: Dan Lanning is an excellent football coach and I have no doubt Oregon will step up their game as they move into conference play. Oregon's defense, while having great players, can be moved, can be ran and thrown on. There will be opportunities to score points. If Boise State can score 27 points and Oklahoma State can put up 39 points respectively against the Ducks' defense, there is no reason Nebraska cannot do the same.

The rest of our league schedule? Before making any grand prognostications, let's see where the Huskers are after Oregon.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Echo our coaches:

ONE. GAME. AT. A. TIME.

screw that....we're going undefeated, and play for a natty. :-)

Whew!...got it off my chest...now when we lose, I'll have already predisposed myself for disappointment early in the season, as apposed to when we get to 6-0. :-)

Sagarin's predictor model has Nebraska as a 1/2 point favorite at MSU including home field advantage. So the computer calls it closer than Vegas. I do expect a close game but we also have more firepower. If the defense keeps them to 20 points (or less) we should have a good shot at winning.

We're flying under the radar right now--which is fine by me. We're like Indiana when Cignetti and his JMU boys first traveled to Bloomington. They were CFB's "nice story, but..." for every big game they played each of the past two seasons. There's no guarantees on our schedule going forward...BUT contrary to the opinions of some Husker fans, there aren't any "No Frickin' Way! games either.

You betchum red rider

That quote brings back a lot of memories. The cowboy hero Red Ryder had a juvenile Native American companion named Little Beaver who often said, "You betchum, Red Ryder". This was in the comic strips, radio show and the movie series of the mid- to late-1940s. Back in the 50s, as a little boy, I had a Daisy Red Ryder air rifle. Let me digress from Husker football for just a moment.

Robert Blake played Little Beaver in the movie series. Around 2015 Blake would sometimes stop by the North Hollywood gym where I worked out in the late afternoon. I saw him there maybe five or six times. He was good friends of the gym owner. When I first saw him, the gym owner said, "Do you know who this is?" I said, "You betchum, Red Ryder." Blake started laughing. It gave me a good opportunity to ask him questions about his career...the Our Gang comedies, working with Jack Benny and Humphrey Bogart, etc. I must say he was very friendly, not stand-offish or gruff like I thought he'd be. Despite that, both the gym owner and I thought that Blake offed his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. We were frequent visitors to the neighborhood restaurant Vitello's. Some of the employees believed he did it as well.

I have a dog named Red Ryder. Best danged hunting dog I ever had and yes we still hunt he is 5 and IM 81. He is named for the BB gun and the cowboy Red Ryder

Jeopardy, I don't want to speak for Chris and the other admins, but I have a pretty strong suspicion that you have blanket approval to go OT with stories from your past anytime.

I have one for you...when I was at my last duty station(Ft.Lewsi,WA)...Otis Sistrunk was handing out towels at the post gym.
