Your Coronavirus Test Is Positive. Maybe It Shouldn’t Be.
Up to 90% of positive tests are people that aren't shedding the virus.
My daughter's volleyball team in the Tampa Florida area had a false positive on one of their players. They started contact tracing and determining who would need to isolate/quarantine, but since the girl who tested positive felt great and had no symptoms at all, they tested her two more times and found her negative both times. These statements in the article are ones I found telling:Agree all tests are not created equal - the false positives are causing MLB significant issues - and will cause football teams that are testing (NFL and CFB) issues going through the season.

"In three sets of testing data that include cycle thresholds, compiled by officials in Massachusetts, New York and Nevada, up to 90 percent of people testing positive carried barely any virus, a review by The Times found.
"Tests with thresholds so high may detect not just live virus but also genetic fragments, leftovers from infection that pose no particular risk — akin to finding a hair in a room long after a person has left, Dr. Mina said."
The good news is, it appears they can adjust the threshold level on the tests, so they aren't using 37 or 40 amplification cycles as a litmus test for a positive. Hopefully this knowledge is applied and the tests will be better moving forward....If the saliva tests are using reasonable thresholds, this could be a huge factor in playing sports in the near future..
Dont have to have a football game for that to happen. That's all fine and dandy until someone infected sneezes or coughs right into your face, indoors or outdoors. All bets go off then.
Yup, I've acknowledged that ad nauseum. Love how y'all thump and thump on the same thing. Course to be fair I might be guilty of the same thing but I try to do it in different threads at least.Dont have to have a football game for that to happen.
All real evidence is indicating that the majority of the virus spread is among close groups and family members inside of buildings and not out doors. The best medical advice should have been to encourage people to spend MORE time outside in the sun and less time indoors. AND, clean up nursing homes and long term care facilities and limit the number of people allowed to interact with the sick elderly.
So in the stadium, they should close off all luxury boxes until the virus is no longer a grave threat.
