Rhule's coaching staff

eff Youngstown tough. Watched the fatmat at KU, the Boster at DONU and the Stoops idiots at Soonerville. One of the Stoops was ok. The rest of these guys - meh

I'm sorry, are there actual posters on this board, and specifically in this thread, seriously advocating for bringing Bo Pelini back, in any capacity? Or are such suggestions tongue in cheek and I am just not picking up on the sarcasm?

Uenth, you, I, and others here know this, but apparently some posters do not: I mean, never say never, but I think Bo Pelini would eat rat poison before ever coming back here, not that the majority of us would want him.

And to my understanding, what was the "sin" Nebraska fans committed that made Bo hate us so much? We expected the team to play well and not get blown out.

Point of fact - Bo won 9 or 10 games every year at Nebraska and 3 league championships but he was an ill-tempered asshat. A part of me still thinks that the officials still have a nut for DONU because of Pelini's getting in their face time and time and time and time again.

His record falls next under the Bobfather and Saint Tom and he's one of only 5 coaches to win at least 9 games every year he coached at NU so on paper he was a damn good coach. If he could have kept his temper in check, he would have remained HC as long as he wanted to.

His coaching record is clearly why some posters still wax poetically about the Bo days. I started out on the Bo train but left before the train derailed. Just got tired of his temper and getting in official's faces ad nauseam.

My comment was intended to be sarcastic. :) I would never bring Bo back here and there is no way he would ever come back.
I'd be stunned if he would be invited and would come back either way.

Sorry I didn't recognize your sarcasm -- I've been mostly flat on my back the last three days. Vertigo sucks so I'm not my usual self.

But there are quite a few posters who would welcome Bo back with welcome arms. If he wasn't a giant flaming a**hole, I'd be in the Bo camp but his antics were too much for me.

Hope you feel better.

Bo was not only a colossal a-hole and absolute cancer, but by the end he wasn't even an effective coach. His defenses here were shredded by good offenses. His defense at LSU was an absolute joke. No surprise he's completely out of football.

Guessing Eric Chinander will leave Boise State to be DC for UCF - and I hope he waits until Boise loses in the playoff.

And for the record, I hope no one misunderstood my comments about bringing in Bo to be secondary coach. I thought the level of my sarcasm drippage could not be misunderstood but people read what they want to read, I guess. I would vehemently oppose such a hire, should Mr. Dannen or Mr. Rhule or Mr. Butler request my advice.

Bo didnt hate the fans. He hated the ones that booed and left at half time of the OSU game. Plain and simple. And the one who did nothing but put down the players no matter how they played. And there were plenty of them. Still are. Several on this board alone.
As far as Bo coming back, well its under different leadership now so who knows. Under the old leadship? Not a chance. I really wouldnt have a problem with him coming back as the dbacks coach. His year under Frank as DC and DBs coach we had a ton of interceptions and take aways. But yeah it wont happen and Rhule would never ask him.

But by the same token, spending the most doesn't mean you get the best. When buying consumer products, there is always a nexus where price and quality meet. Where the quality diminishes and you're just over-paying needlessly. Talent acquisition in college football is no different.
I think you are missing the point. The point is NU hired guys like Pelini, who Osborne called a "diamond in the rough". Frank Solich who was unproven. Mike Riley who was well past his prime. All these coaches were paid modest salaries. At the same time other blue bloods like Alabama and Ohio State were hiring proven coaches for much higher salaries. The point being a blue blood should not be hiring a bargain basement coach hoping he will develop. They should be hiring a coach on the level of Saban or Myers.

Every rule has outliners like nexus but they norm is that you get what you pay for. If you don't believe it go out and shop cars. Then tell me a Kia stacks up to a BMW.

Bo is done. He proved he is not HC material; and when he was given a chance to coach defense again at LSU he failed miserably.

A Kia is 10x better than a BMW. Okay 10x is hyperbole, but...

1. It's cheaper.
2. It's way more reliabe.
3. It costs way less to keep maintained and have repaired.

I'd buy a Kia 1,000 times before I'd even think about buying an over-priced sh**box like a BMW.

To the point of this thread though, my point was paying a coach a huge salary is no guarantee of success. Matt Rhule is the highest paid coach we've ever had by far and the jury is still out.

Edit: And as @Uenth pointed out, we paid Frost an (at the time--for Nebraska anyway) an unprecedented 5 million a year and he failed miserably.

And then we paid through the nose for SF, who had 2 years as a head coach, albeit one of them great but the other not so stellar.

As someone who was never a SF fan and someone who many wanted ran off this board for opposing his hire, SF was not a poor hire. He was another bargain basement coach who was slick enough to make them pony up the money. It was like paying BMW money for a Kia and hoping it would into a BMW.

You are right. They finally opened up the pockebook and got bilked.

Now I understand, your taste in cars is no better than your assessment of coaches. :happy0188:

And boy did we ever get bilked.

I was a huge Frosty fan but after year 2 it was blindingly obvious that it just wasn't working. And so, the coaching carousel went around one more time. When it stops nobody knows. As others have said, the verdict is still out on HCMRh. He's made some changes that have me hopeful but only time will tell.

The thing is, he is making changes. With other coaches we all knew changes were necessary and we got a lot of talk, but the changes never occurred. There are talkers and doers. Rhule is both. He can communicate and he walks the talk.

Just in the last few weeks we saw some of the changes. The OC wasn't cutting it, we get a new OC. The DC was leaving, he already had a new one on staff. We need a long snapper; he pulled one out of the portal. We need a better pass rush; he pulls in a former 5-star pass rusher and a coach who is known for putting together pass rush packages. We needed to trim the fat off the roster, and he is doing it. On and on. It shows Rhule is going to do what is needed, not just talk about what is needed.
