*** Official Nebraska vs. Rutgers Game Day Thread ***

Ugly, yes. Bailed out by personal foul, yes. First place in the division? yes!
The PF was a game winner, but CT looked like he was going to be sacked. Props on getting the ball out and a great catch. Without that there is no PF.

YES YES YES WE FOUGHT FOUGHT FOUGHT WE WON GBR This team under MJ has changed we got fight in us we dont give up and yes MJ left the offense to MW hecK ya GBR

I was having Frost flashbacks in the first quarter. After that, great game by Bill and the boys. Nice to see NU win a close game.

This is the type of win that helps the team’s psyche (I know it helped mine).

First off, I somehow managed to get thru the wedding despite getting kick-in-the-gut score updates. Second, I got to watch the second half from our hotel room. Third, nobody on my floor called the front desk about the profanity coming out of our room. And finally, somehow, someway, we pulled this sucker out of the fire!

It reminded me a little bit of the Mizzou game in Suh’s last year. The Tigers dominated us and shut us out in the first half and we came back to win on the road.

We sure didn’t look pretty and our OL continues to mightily struggle. But you gotta hand it to the Blackshirts. They really shut Rutgers down in the second half just like they did Indiana. And despite some questionable Whipple decisions, Trey came thru with the huge go-ahead TD.

I’m gonna have a very enjoyable drive home to Lincoln tomorrow! Two wins in a row, baby!!! Whooo-hooo!

Hey it wasn't "bailed out." That Rutgers player made the decision to throw our player to the ground after clearly going out of bounds. Instead, be happy that finally the other team had an untimely case of the stupids.

:kool:

Yeah, Rutgers used ALL THREE of their timeouts in a single series due to a stupid mix-up on coverage and then got the PF penalty to give us a first down. It doesn’t get much stupider than that.

Whipple still makes very questionable play-calls. I get no OC is going to be perfect, but that "jet sweep" on 4th & 1 was beyond the pale of dumb. Line the QB under center and sneak it. Or hell, give the ball to Grant to see if our weak a** OL can get us 1 yard. It may not work, but it has a higher probable success rate than that jet sweep.

Now, for a bit of a rant: Our OL, particularly the OTs are weak, this has been well documented. Here is my problem with OC Whipple, for suppsedly being such an "experienced" playcaller, he sucks at adjusting. What I mean is, yes, our OTs are struggling but there are a lot of schematic things the OC can do to help our OL and the OTs out:

1. Bring in TEs to help the OTs out.
2. Put two RBs in the backfield to help with pass pro.
3. Use Wagggle action to change the launch point of the throws.
4. Use more motion to help our WR and TEs get open.
5. Throw more to the RBs out of the backfield.

I mean, these are all small, schematic changes thst literally ANY competent OC could make. Does OC Whipple do any of that? Nope. Just leaves our below mediocre OTs out there to struggle on their own and get ridiculously owned by even average DEs and OLBs.

I would only argue that in the second half adjustments where made , lots of TE targets and very fast reads …..i will not disagree with the absolute fact that our O line is sh1t , and the absolute worst O line i have seen at NU in my 52 years on this earth

Almost 53 years

I am ecstatic that we came back in the second half and dug down deep to pull out whatever it was to win this game.

Say what you want, MJ and staff have done something and this team has changed for the better. There still is a lot of work to be done but they should now know that they can win. This is HUGE for the players!

GO BIG RED!!!

#1 in the West. WOO HOOO!!!!!
