NU-Fresno St. Game Thread

I wish we would just line up in the power "l" and hammer

Did you see UGA running the Maryland I (very well) today? Made me kinda sad

Anybody else concerned NU either hits a home run or strikes out? 2 TD's, both wide open and from distance. Not a single sustained drive resulting in a TD and no hint of a consistent run game

Those who hyped the OL underestimated the value of experience. Cotton started what, 8 games. Moudy 4. Sterup last December was hyped as the next All conference OLineman. Cotton and Lewis didn't exactly show us their aggresive reputation clearing the way for Ameer. Going to take time for the line to jell.

I'm concerned that Beck's offense is more or less inside zone, zone stretch, two man option, and quick pitch. This game they used jet motion to pretend they were doing the jet sweep series, but it never had a rhythm.

I'm also concerned with one QB getting all the playing time considering he's throwing scatter balls half the attempts. He needs to have competition and it feels like there isn't one.

I'm also concerned we have a deep stable of runningbacks that are idle. Imani is fun to see. Newby has speed on the edge and delivers a shot. But I also know King James could easily play and so could others. Three games featuring Ameer against weak competition is no way to have depth for the stretch. I don't want to see the repeat of Braylen Heard. Fans knew he was good. Coaching staff didn't hardly use him.

Will somebody please check who won the "Hovey/Bailey score in the same game" pool. I know I picked the FAU game, but I believe somebody had Fresno St.

  • Nebraska improved to 3-0 and took care of a little detail that stuck in Pelini's craw last week. That is, NU failed to stomp on McNeese State's throat when the Cowboys were on the ropes late in the second quarter.

  • NOTICED
True freshman defensive back Josh Kalu was in no-man’s land late in the first quarter as Fresno State drove into Nebraska territory. Kalu, part of NU’s dime defensive package, was out of position on a third-and-4 conversion. He seemed unsure on the next snap, too, prompting Bo Pelini to burn a timeout. Kalu received quite a tongue-lashing from the coach.

  • A prominent weakness of NU's team for the last two years appeared to find its star Saturday night when Pierson-El calmly caught a punt at his 14, bolted hard left around most of the Bulldogs, only to cut back to the open field for the seventh-longest punt return in school history.

  • Snicker if you must, but know this: When Pierson-El, a true freshman, fielded a second-quarter punt at the Nebraska 14-yard line, took off without hesitation and weaved his way through traffic, his return of 86 yards surpassed the Huskers’ total punt-return yardage of last season.

    ALL of last season.

  • You don’t get good, or great, at something unless you do it a lot. It’s part of the culture. It’s hard to get that when your goal is to run a multiple offense.

  • Nebraska busted out all-white uniforms Saturday night instead of the traditional red pants.

Nebraska coaches and players clearly aren't uniform-superstitious.
