No Respect from ESPN's Herbstreit

Another sign of what a dumpster fire Frost inherited is that Duval had to scale back on the off-season S&G program he ran at Group of 5 UCF when he started at B1G Nebraska.
Good point. There was a ton of work to do the day Frost took the job, and there still is plenty of work remaining. We probably shouldn't get pissed when others from outside the program aren't 100% convinced that everything is fixed and that Frost will duplicate his UCF 2nd year performance here at Nebraska. A lot of these College Football analysts will have to see results before they announce that "we are back".....and that's perfectly logical. In the end, I don't care where people are predicting, what matters is the results at the end of the season. If we beat teams like Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, etc., then more people will be convinced and won't be able to say much against the progress of the program. Until we actually beat people, it's all speculation and guessing, and we shouldn't expect that they will agree with fans..... JMO

A voice of reason. Excellent obs jarhead

8-4??!?!??! Come on, Uenth! That's CallaBoRiley thinking!!! The times have changed.

We've got us a Big Boy Coach again and he's in YEAR TWO baby!!!!.

I'm thinking 10 wins minimum!!! Number 1 hits this Saturday.
Nah, I'm sticking with 8-4.

Now, I'll be surprised if we don't win more than 8 games but we have some toss-up games and Baby Poop always happens so I'm tampering my enthusiasm.

For year 2, I'll be happy with 8-4. Year 3, full tilt, all the way.

I try never to confuse an honest opinion with either love or hate. It's an opinion.

At our worst, we repeated 4-8. New systems, frosh qb, injury to AM, not having a true first game match up etc etc .
Wiscy got us early, as we played with little to no confidence, but still played them closer, was still feeling out our team.
We had just gotten rid of our juco rb, and ziggy was still feeling his way.
We are not onlt a better team at the end of the year, but will be better this year.
This wiscy had an off year didnt seem to effect them against us, but, we effected that game more than wiscy liked, just remember their coaches response on the sidelines.
We have them at home, for all of Husker nation to see. Dont care for herbstreet that much, but he's being very conservative here, and should talk to the btn people, they changed their tune.

The Big Ten network guys were similarly dismissive in their show on Monday. Pat Forde, J. Leman and Dave Wannstedt all said that Nebraska was overrated and was not going to win the West. Fair enough, but the comment that really irritated me was when Forde said that Martinez may be like McKenzie Milton "on training wheels," which I took to be an insult (i.e., give Martinez training wheels and then he may be able to keep up with Milton). I hope the team and Martinez specifically heard their comments.

So, the obvious second or third team bench sitters have an opinion?
Forde has always been all hat no cattle, wanstedt has proven himself to be antiquated time and again, not sure abot leman, other than add an s and he's nothing more than a foreign race from somewheres.

Exactly! I hope the team takes all the opinions of people who don't think they will do much, and uses it as additional motivation. It will be fun to hear these experts backtrack later this season if we win the West.... :evilgrin0007:

The history of Nebraska football is full of national pundits who poo-pooed our program...
  • Undefeated Nebraska better than one-loss Notre Dame?? HA HA
  • Nebraska better than Jack Mildren and Greg Pruit in 1971?? HA HA
  • Nebraska better than Steve Spurrier's amazing 'fun & gun' Florida team?? HA HA
They all had to eat their words. Finally in 2019, the poo-pooing starts again. :)

Remember in those days all you had to do was win, now you have to part of the in crowd and kiss alot of booty to even get an invite to the party.

We all now know, only Colorado is better on grass!

The Herbies are here for the 2019 season

Sorry for the title screw-up (it was supposed to be ESPN's Herbstreit), I accidentally posted before I was ready.
Fixed, although if people preferred it the other way, we can certainly go back

As for the four-letter network, they're about as legit as most reality TV. Scripted fake opinions to generate controversy and subsequent ratings

he is right about our D needing to get better.
If he gives SF respect for turning the offense around, he is being lazy on not checking on our defense.
The bar is winning the west in his comments, no more than that.
I know osu struggles to handle wiscys offense, fair enough, so do almost everyone wiscy plays, but it was wiscys defense that had them lose so many games last year, so, he's saying wiscy can jump their defense way up over last year while we can't.

Ignoring a few things,or too lazy, not sure which, but our defense will be much improved, and, our offense will be more improved than wiscys offense as well.
We will see.

I dunno about that, Northwood. Herbstreit can look at last season's offensive stats and the return of a Freshman All-American QB and see a jump but what is it about our D that would inspire respect?

Yes, we added Darrion Daniels, but he was injured at Okie-State last year and his stats don't scream "difference-maker" to most National guys.

We fans tend to be optimistic about the extent of our D's progress during the offseason but until they strap up the helmets on this Saturday, Nebraska's national image is that we have a lousy D -- until the Blackshirts prove otherwise.

As you said, we will see.

I have gotten to the point that anyone that still watches the Evil Empire are ones that need the final inspiration TO JUMP, as opposed to being talked off the ledge.

WE saw what the offense is capable of, and the defense last year. Until such a time as the defense steps up and hammers the opponents on a regular basis they are going to be suspect. In other words, they need to prove on the field and once that is established, we will get some respect. We scored enough points last year if only we had played better d

Thank you father Flannigan, I agree as I posted before I read yours.

So, Green and Daniels and Damion a year older, bigger harder hitting safeties, faster too, add in better linebacking play, this as it is,it will be better.
Btn, who has seen the guys, said theyre bigger, look the part, why is that?
No, herbies being lazy.
Listening to the coaches, we have more depth at ILB even though we are razor thin.
Our offensive improvements alone puts us over the edge compared to last years outcomes, our depth on the D line will happen, and, as an aggressive D, means a ton.
Moving out a first year in SnC Carlos isnt the same thing as a second year Damion,Darion or Green in the middle.
Darrion looks big here, all look better than last year.again, we will see.
