No Respect from ESPN's Herbstreit

Wanted to add this one thing. A guy told me something before the season last year that kind of puzzled me. He is not a cousin of Frost's cable man but someone who was very close to the program at least in the way of having this information or opinion. It was not information any official with the U would say publically. It had to do with the shape they found the program in and the time it will take to turn it around. I thought what he said was excessively negative but he seemed very confident about it.

Ok,knock it off MRJFB, what did he say?

Said dont be surprised if we only win 4 games this year(2018). But wait'll next year and you'll see a completely different team.

Did you think that last year when he piscked Frost as the best hire of the year?

Herbstreit breaks down Frost as biggest impact coaching hire

And that he has always had good things to say about Frost at NU?

he may like the coach, but I got a life time of memories from him bitching and crying about Nebraska.
it will take more then 1 nice read about out HC , which was kind just following the herd of talking heads at that point. but I do fully expect him to fall in line with this style of O , its made for highlight clips

4 last year was bottom line, guys leaving, trouble with continuity, buy in, out of shape, smaller footprint on fit from staff, relying on buy in and what you have, learning curve, discipline etc, turnovers, frosh qb, penalties etc etc.
Besides possibly some higher than wanted penalties, everything else is changed on this team to a very high degree, it couldnt be last years team if it tried, like singing off key, its hard to do once you learn to on key, consistently off key anyhow.

My take is, I go back to herbie saying how are we going to handle wiscys monster o line, where he saw his alma mater struggle at times with them, refering to Nebraska.
He knew we were somewhat undersized, out of shape, and at that time, under coached with MR at the helm.
To me, a fair assessment, and I'm rough on the media.

Don't get the dislike. Herbstreit is one of the best color guys around. Remember as we were slowly sinking after Osborne left guys like him and Lee Corso were really looked down upon in Nebraska. They were just stating what they saw and did not have fan blinders on. These guys had huge respect for what NU was, not what they became
I don't mind that ,it was true. I dislike the guy as he has bashed when we were great. has bashed the fans for remembering that , if it was usc its was remembering your history , if it was NU it was holding on to the past. if it was Miami it was your history of dominance and swagger , if it was NU it was faded glory and distant memories .

The media has a distorted view of who and how we became what we became.
They apply the higher scholly count as being so much more advantageous to us, yet other schools, it didnt apply.

Now, todays line is, we cant ever get back because of our location, as if we were elsewheres before the changes, or whatever distortion is going on in their heads, where once again, the lower numbers apply only to us.
Rarely is there only one or two must get guys at any position, and truly, rarely did we ever get those guys anyways.
The biggest changes was us walking away from our traditions, and our coaching took a tumble.
But what do they know, they only get paid to know, with alot of cooler than you thrown in.

Nebraska hasn't won much in a couple of decades so this just could be the last time ol" Herbi gets to crow much. He's old enough to remember how it was getting the snot knocked out of you when Nebraska came to town. Scars run deep. Back then the Big Ten teams would come to Lincoln to get a payday. Most times a painful price was paid to get a piece of the sellout gate. He remembers the many beatings the Big Ten got. Sabin got clocked when he was at Michigan State as I recall. Corso certainly had his worst beating from Nebraska as did most big named coaches of the times. The Bear's worst whipping. Donahue at UCLA worst beatdown. It was good to be hated back then. Lots of whining and tears.

If you want to see a stupid media person, look at Bruntz at the Nebraska 247 site. He picked Iowa to win the division this year on a national radio show..lol. Iowa will be your typical Iowa team - some good line play, average at most places, and a player here and there that is NFL level.
And he explained why.

Reality and common sense do not equal disrespect. That said, I already bought B1G CCG tickets and can't wait to see the Huskers play in Indy again!

I dont recall Corso ever complaining about it either

If the first game was not canceled our season likely would have gone a different direction. Sh*t happens
If I could have liked this post more I would have. We did get our ass kicked by Michigan and played over our heads against Ohio State.
Other than that, we very well could have won a whole lot of games had we got that first game in last year.

Kirk Herbstreit on why Alabama vs. Clemson is like Tiger Woods, his sneaky playoff pick and a potential 'NCAA Football' return

Q: Lot of hype surrounding Nebraska this year. You buying in?

A: I don't know if I'm buying that they are going to make the Big Ten Championship game, but there were enough signs last year that even though they started the year 0-6—I remember making a comment after they lost to Wisconsin that they had a really good chance of winning out the rest of the year. They were showing enough signs with their quarterback play to be able to be competitive and find a way to start winning games. Like we talked earlier about teaching a team how to win, I think [head coach] Scott Frost is still in the process of doing that, it's the second year, they get Ohio State at home, Wisconsin at home, Iowa at home, so there's reason to be optimistic. I think they'll be much, much better than they were a year ago as far as wins and losses, but that division [the Big Ten West] is literally take a dart and throw it against the board and see who comes up. I'm going to go with Wisconsin. I think people have forgotten about them, they've got a really good program. But you could make an argument for Nebraska, Iowa, Northwestern, any of these teams, all four have a shot, but I'll go with the Badgers.

I love all the optimism I'm reading here but I'm not going to predict higher than 8-4. Hope I'm proven wrong and we go to Indy but I'm not ready to throw caution to the wind yet.

I think NU will be in Indy 2020 but there are a lot of unknowns yet for 2019. I'll be ecstatic with 8-4 as that will show a hell of a lot of progress. Anything else is gravy, IMO!

Been saying 8-4 all along too. Hoping if I am wrong, it means Doc is correct and not that he and I are both wrong.
