Next man up...new A.D. thread

Loyalty oaths are a bunch of bullshit and unnecessary in collegiate sports.
I'm a naive' country boy at heart so I'm always surprised when somebody bolts like Trev did. Not to get too philosophical on a Husker Football board, but loyalty is a two-way street.

I can think of scores of examples of men I've known over the years who dedicated their lives to a company only to be told on a random Friday afternoon to clean out their desk and get escorted out of the office. Why? 'Cause 'Corporate' decided on a layoff to trim costs. "Thanks for your lifetime of service but you can go home now. Take care. Bye."

True and does happen in the corporate world. However if it was me as AD at Nebraska unless they fired me for incompetence or laid ne off, I'm not leaving. I'm an alumnus and 100% dedicated to this school. I'd navigate the bad leadership and speak up if necessary even if it made me hated.

I beg to differ with you, you dont have to use banned gutter language by the way. After the way our last two big name alums treated the Huskers, I would think you would agree even if it was just tongue in cheek

My final, or at least semi-final thoughts....
Trev has some problems. I don't know if it's social skills or something more, but there is enough history to draw this conclusion. He was not destined to be here forever.
The BOR are a walking clusterflop. The fiefdom that is UNL is led by puppets of the major donors. That's the facts Jack! It's not going to change until BHF members start flexing their financial muscles. Anybody got an extra $100,000,000 lying around? Me neither.
This situation was brought to a head because of NIL! How much donations should be allocated to facility upgrades vs NIL has caused a lot of friction. It's not my business to tell people where and how much to donate. Massaging money out of big donors is a job I don't want.
Don't expect the truth from media. The Hurrdat media conglomerate has a patron. Jim Rose is capable of saying anything with enthusiasm while claiming a bit of inside information. Newspapers are dead and jobs there are few and require canoodling of superiors. Without these sponsorships, all those involved would have to find other jobs. I find it amusing that stories are now circulating that Trev screwed some things up and was taking credit for the fine work done by the previous AD. You mean the AD you said hadn't done a damn thing for months before he was ousted? That guy didn't even show up most days! Nobody even confronts the media on their BS.
In the future I will consider the relationship of the AD to the university to be comparable to a golf caddy. You can give advice and be very knowledgeable, but the job is mainly show up, keep up, and shut up. And if you annoy the golfer enough- you won't be around for the next loop.
None of this will affect HC Matt Rhule. He's enough of a political animal to weather this transition without so much as a ripple of trouble. Everybody else is in damage control and NOBODY wants to start crap with the most principled man in the organization. They just want to weather this storm and quietly get back to their positions of comfort.
Me? I've decided nothing has really changed. After all the deck chairs are moved around, I'll see this isn't the Titanic we're on, the ship just changed course a few degrees. I'm going back to relax by the pool wearing sunglasses. Nobody suspects I'm ogling the pretty ladies. I too have my flaws.

Once I calmed down and listened to my gut, it tells me you're right, PD.

The ONLY reason I got freaked out about TA's announcement is because of its potential impact on Matt Rhule. If it doesn't affect Matt, I'm fine with TA doing whatever he feels he needs to do in order to become the first Commission of the new SEC-B1G League that forms a few years from now. My gut also tells me that's why TA left.

I know Coach Rhule has yet to post a winning season at DONU. But I've seen enough to know we lucked into The Read Deal HC -- thanks to Trev. And I will always be grateful to him for that. Coach has said he came here because its the kind of place where he and his family can put down roots and stay awhile. If he's true to his word -- and I believe he is -- then Nebraska is going to return to the promised land of relevance again soon...
As in, like this season, baby!!!. :CORN:

Rhule isn't going anywhere anytime soon cause at the moment if he resigned to take another job he'd have to ponies some major coin. I thought I saw someone say $64 mill he would owe UNL.
