Next #1 QB ?

Any word on Peter Costelli--was our #1target a year ago---not sure he is better than what we have but would give the staff another option and create more competition and depth in the room

One thing I'm pretty sure of.....if we're going for a transfer with only one year to play, we can't wait until after spring ball to offer. A one and done will need spring ball, at least, to be ready next fall. Now some qbs who have a couple, or more, years can be offered but don't expect much help this coming year. In other words if they want a qb to compete for next years season, which I think they do, this needs to be done before spring ball gets under way......as soon as possible in fact so they can at least study the play book..........providing it's done by then.

Plan "B" as in "Bo"?
I’m hearing a little about this. Anyone else think Nix would find his way here? If, as many suggested, he had his destination set before Whip was announced, I just don’t see it. One thing he would bring a boat load of experience.

I think Nix would be a good fit from experience side and allow the younger guys to develop.

Nix, Auburn QB
As I mentioned, Nix would bring a lot of experience, and quite honestly I thought might be a quick. albeit short term, fix. I've been called out by some friends who say the baggage might not be worth it. I guess if he's a *****, Whip wouldn't hold it against him ;). There's also been mention that family doesn't exactly stay out of the way........all I wasn't aware of. Any opinions here?

Bo Nix is a better overall QB vs AM2 - but not as good an athlete. He is mobile but is not going to bust 40 yard scrambles or option runs. He succeeded at times vs SEC defenses. I think he would be a good option at QB. Also think there may be better options that become available. If any of the baggage is true - yeah we don't need that - but hopefully our staff figures it out pretty quick and moves on if that is the right direction.

Thanks.

Personally I want an athletic QB, and one who is mobile enough to scramble when needed, but my order of preferences are......1) Reads the field well, and goes through progressions and decisions quickly. 2) After reading the open man, I want a qb who delivers accurately and quickly. 3) Mobile enough to escape pressure, and if a lane is open to take it.........less than a half dozen times a game.

There has been a debate (a good one imo) about AM's (or all our qbs actually) ability, or desire, to run early and often. Did the qb read too slow? Did O-line whiff of blocking assignments? Whatever the reason/s I hope we have an offense that when they decide to throw, the qb isn't forced to do it on the run ALL of the time.

Of course a good running game will help a whole bunch too.

Ok so Brenner is staying @ LSU .....I don't think Bo Nix would come here or fit in the blue collar offense Whip has in mind but if as he says he has a BUNCH OF QB'S FROM THE PORTAL WHOM HAVE REACHED OUT TO HIM SINCE THE ANNOUNCEMENT HE IS NOW AT NEBRASKA.....we have no real clue who might be calling him and who they had as plan B, C, D etc. Gonna have to look this "Slovis" guy up and see what that's about but whomever they slide out of the Portal is more n likely gonna have some experience, again just my observations after listening to Coach Whip and what he said.

I could be all wrong here and they might take a guy with 2 or 3 seasons of eligibility remaining if it's the "RIGHT" Guy ?

DOC HOLIDAY.

I would like to see a graduate transfer myself.. Sort of like Borrow He didn't have much in the way of classes and could be full time Football. I happen to think we have some good QB's already

Honestly you interchange Nix and Smothers. Nix is the starter but Smothers comes in and runs option, etc. Like what Michigan did this year with their QBs.

Schools that make the most sense for former Texas QB Casey Thompson

Thompson’s decision came a little late in the game in terms of transferring to schools with a glaring need for quarterback, so schools like LSU, South Carolina, and UCLA have all taken in quarterbacks or have their situation figured out. However, Nebraska’s quarterback spot is up for grabs after the departure of Adrian Martinez, who transferred to Kansas State. Scott Frosts’ team made history for how many games they lost in such a close margin, and Thompson was apart of multiple games in which double-digit leads were blown. This could be a redemption story for both, and Frost was Thompson’s recruiter when he was at UCF.

Yup - Nix to Oregon
Rattler to South Carolina

Guessing we'll end up bringing in a transfer QB but likely not someone highly touted.
Not highly touted I can live with. We don’t need a project, or someone who doesn’t fit our schemes.

Because nothing has been announced. I am wondering if they are waiting on a QB who hasn't announced. Possibly a QB who is waiting until after a bowl game to announce.

Just a thought.

I hope that's it. The way we went all in on Brennan seemed a little desperate. The barrel of transfer QBs is getting empty, if we don't get someone who's playing a bowl game we may end up scraping the bottom.
I wonder what LM thinks of all this action. I read elsewhere Coach Whipple hasn't even spoken to Torres yet. I hope we don't lose either of them.
