This. How can this possibly be a felony?
It is a felony because that video was put on the internet, without the alleged victim's permission. We all know that once something is on the web, it is there forever. You can go to court and have it taken down, but somewhere someone has a copy of it. That video will come back to haunt this young woman.Bad enough being assaulted by three young men but to have it put on the internet just brings it back.

I know he just sent the video to her so that is slightly different from my post, but it still qualifies as revenge and because the victim was 15 at the time of the attack and video it is child porn. Would the charges even be made if this wasn't a star football player? Don't know. Stilll, if Washington sent her the video with that remark, it was a d*ck move on his part. Does the charge fit the crime? I want to read more before I answer that question. I do know that I believe Smart Phones are part of the problem in this Country.

As I've sat here, sewing CR quilt blocks this morning, one thought keeps running into my head. I get that Mo wasn't a participant, nor did he shoot the video. But, for God's sake, why did he keep the video of his former girlfriend being assaulted for months or years? That signfies a huge problem in itself. To me, he should be p*ssed at the two young men, not calling the young woman a "hoe", if he sent that message to her. Since it is his phone, you would assume he did but a friend could have been playing a "joke" on him. Whatevs.

Please read what Taylor (victim) has written about the assault. Myself, I would have NEVER gotten into a car as the only female with two males but I'm not particularly trusting. Even as a lapse in judgement, though, Taylor did not ask, nor deserve what happened and she must now live with every day for the remainder of her life.

First,it was already on the internet as it was shared throughout the school at the time, so, there are numerous individuals involved, as well as Mo had it on his phone, doubt he downloaded it from hardware/omputer directly.
Secondly, if this was an assault on her, why would he keep the video?
So, assuming it was an assault,as in she gave no consent, has no basis,as the assailents, the other two guys whove never been prosecuted, are innocent until proven guilty as well.
Since the law has yet to take any action, other than the original sharing of the vid by one of the guys in it, everyones innocent at this point.

Some here are getting confused about what he charged with.

He's being charged with felony for possession of child pornography, not for anything related to participating/being present at an alleged assault.
He's being charged with "sharing said material without the person’s permission and with the potential to cause emotional distress." That charge is a misdemeanor.

Go to my second paragraph, the video was sent from Mo's phone to the victim with the "remember this hoe" text. Because the victim was 15 when the video was shot, it is considered child porn and that makes it a felony. Also because of the text, it falls under the revenge porn law as the remember this line makes it "intent to inflict harm" on the alleged victim.

I read what Taylor wrote about this. She was kicked out of school because of this. She told the principal that she was not a willing participant. Because the two young men said she was willing,i it was her word against theirs.

I still question why Mo had this video on his phone. That is incredibly bad judgement. What we don't know is if someone grabbed his phone and sent that video to the alleged victim. I'm not passing judgement on Mo, other than to have kept the video on his phone (that is how I read the article). It is possible that someone grabbed his phone, found that video on the internet and sent it to Taylor. That is the big, HUGE unknown. If that is what happened, scratch my bad judgement remark.

I suggest you read your post.....even if he sent it too her. You simply are not qualified to a judgement period.

Are you saying that no matter what we can't pass judgement, even if he is guilty? If so, I am qualified. I understand what is moral and what is immoral. That alone qualifies me to make a judgement based on the facts. That said, not all the facts are in just yet, and like you said, innocent until proven guilty!

I am one of those that is sick of the guilty until proven innocent, crap, so I won't pass judgement until we get all the facts.

If you are saying we are not qualified because we don't have all the facts, then I can agree.

here is what he is being charged with..

Nebraska RB Maurice Washington charged under new California 'revenge porn' law

A University of Nebraska running back faces criminal charges under California's new "revenge porn" law for allegedly sending a sexually explicit video to his former girlfriend.

According to a report by NBC Bay Area, Maurice Washington was one of several students from his high school to have a copy of a video of the then-15-year-old girl participating in what she described as non-consensual sexual acts with two male classmates.

Washington was not involved in the incident, but is accused of texting the video to the alleged victim, along with a threatening message.

The relatively new state law in California makes it a crime to send a video to someone to inflict emotional damage. And because the girl was 15 at the time of the incident, Washington is also being charged with distribution of child pornography.

I am entitled to an opinion however, which is what a fan forum is all about. To you it's no big deal... fine.
To me, as a father of 3 daughters, I cannot imagine the pain and suffering that family has gone through. If it is proven he sent that video to her I hope he is dismissed. I am sorry you are disgusted by my opinion, but it doesn't change how I feel.

I didn't see him say it wasn't a big deal (why put words in his mouth?)...What i did hear him say say is let this play out in a lawful manner.

All around this is just a bad situation that no one wins and is sad indeed - I have a daughter myself who has was involved in a very horrendous act against her so i know first hand how this might feel as a parent of the girl (my daughter didn't have revenge porn thrown out her but a much worse act).

I wish that were true Jim. Anymore in this country you are guilty until proven innocent. :(

Emotions come before facts at times. That being said i do have the opinion Washington did something not very smart here and will probably have a few rough years ahead of him.

I agree. If that is the extent of their knowledge they might be in the clear. Now in saying that...…..someone will probably question why they didn't follow up and do their own investigation. Kind of like why Urban didn't investigate more when the police had already been called 12 times and they couldn't find anything to charge Zack Smith with.

The difference Sandbar between the Ohio State thing and Mo's thing is Urban knew who, what happened, and when. So he was obligated to follow up. Frost knew something happened but was never told what happened by the Cali authorities. So what would they be following up on? Why waste resources digging for info when you don't know what info you are looking for? JMO.

The only way he gets out of this is if someone hacked his phone or spoofed his # and sent that video. Otherwise whether he's innocent or not if he has/had that content on his phone he needs to be dismissed immediately.

Exactly what I posted earlier, as far as plausible reasons why Mo is innocent. Moral of the story is that you should never give your smart phone to anyone and have one hell of a good password on it to protect yourself. This goes for women as well as men.

I will say, that if it's proven that Mo sent the video and text to his ex girlfriend (and I hope that it is proven to be false); I can hear Tom Petty warming up with an old diddy that will be slightly modified "Don't Come Around Here No Mo"

That article certainly provides the most information I've seen yet. If, and that is a big if, all the information concerning how the text came to be sent, then it certainly appears that Mo's playing days at UNL are finished.

According to ESPN, Taylor sent Mo a text congratulating him on his scholly, Mo sent Taylor a reply making sexual innuendoes, Taylor replied back that she wasn't interested in a relationship and at that point, the video was sent to Taylor along with the "remember this, Hoe" text. I would not think that charges would be filed unless all the t's were crossed and i's dotted. My gut feeling is that the investigators are satisfied that Mo did, in fact, send the video to Taylor.

However, Washington is entitled to his day in court before being found guilty. The ESPN article just fills in a little more of the blanks surrounding the incident.

My response back is. Urban Meyer did report it upward. I think I had read.....could be wrong......12 times. 12 times the police failed to act on it because they didn't believe there was credible abuse. Meyer investigated and issued a warning to Zack but didn't find anything that the police couldn't find. And yet he was publicly crucified. At the time I thought the public crucifiction.....especially on this board was unfair. Every one called him SCUM and pretty much me too for supporting him. And as I tried to explain......I wasn't trying to support Urban Meyer but the issue that coaches be held responsible for what players and coaches under them do.

As an example of this I brought up SF and what would happen if something similar happened here. One possibility I brought up was Ron Brown and the potential fall out of hiring him in an anti-religious atmosphere our society has moved too. What would those same SCUM callers position be in SF was now under the scope?

To say that this is different than UM because SF didn't know anything is a rush to judgement. Some could argue that as soon as something came to the University's attention they should have immediately started an investigation. Yep.......they can conclude that it was in law enforcements hand and leave it at that. How well did that work for Urban Meyer and Ohio State.

As far as digging for information when you don't know what to look for? Seriously? All SF had to do was ask Mo.

Smart phones aren't the problem.........its people getting dumber as they use them.

I highly doubt that Mo will face much, if any, jail or prison time over this one. The bigger question is whether or not he should still be on the team. Trying to just keep in mind that this happened before he was enrolled here and its possible that it isnt representative of his character since he got here. If this is who he is and has continued to be, then by all means get him off the team. If, on the other hand, he has grown up over the last year and this was just a stupid kid doing something stupid, I dont know that anything more than a suspension is justified

Uenth you are making a lot of assumptions here. First of all you are questioning why Mo kept the video of here being assaulted. How do you know he believed he was in possession of a video where she was assaulted. Is it possible that he kept a video of her with two guys just in case she ever tried to deny she cheated on him? If you had evidence of your spouse cheating would you keep it?

2nd of all do you even know there was an assault? The police investigated it and didn't charge anyone with it. Are you sure there was any type of struggle fight it off? Her comments about getting in a car and taken somewhere else are only HER comments. The police at the time didn't seem to believe her.

So let me ask you this. If the video came out that she was a clear participant in it......does that change your opinion of anything? I'm not saying Mo is guilty nor innocent. I'm just struggling with the people who are ready to hang him out without hearing the facts and not recognizing that the police already investigated this and didn't find it to be an assault.
