From the ESPN story:
"No sexual assault charges were filed against the juveniles who appeared in the video, but NBC Bay Area reported that one of them was arrested and placed on probation for distribution of child pornography after he recorded the video and sent copies to classmates."

My uneducated guess is that the child porn felony charge is going to be difficult to pin on him, especially if he wasn't involved in shooting the video and/or the initial distribution. If this was indeed passed around the school, will the prosecutor charge every kid who had it or sent it with felony distribution of child porn? If not, why just charge a star football player and no one else? The defense would have a field day with that aspect of it.

Another uneducated guess: the misdemeanor that reads "intent to cause emotional distress" or some similar wording will most likely stick if it is proven Mo sent the video message and vulgar text. The question from there is whether that would be enough to send him packing.

Involvement in the initial defense does not matter on the felony charges. People have been convicted because of the content of their hard drive's. The age of all three participants makes it a felony to upload on the net and send to another person.

Warrant filed for Husker back Washington

Warrant finally signed. I know there was some speculation that it would not even be signed but that it not the case.
And its not that impactful, as they will allow Mo to show up on his own efforts.
The only time child porn was talked about was after the protective mother talked to the tv station.
Someday, Mo has a good chance of playing in the nfl.
Mom goes to the tv station, being the protective mother that she is, mother then brings in the child porn, to protect her child, as up to that point, no one outside the local sheriffs or police dept knew and the local prosecutor and the judge, who had sat on it for over two months.
But, still, someday, Mo may end up in the nfl.
From the link
We expected this, and were prepared for it,” Ball said. “... Mr. Washington will remain fully cooperative in this matter.”
I havnt read where it wouldnt be signed, but the judge drug his feet to sign it.
I did say the judge wouldnt like being pressed on this, and it appeared it wasnt being pushed by the judge, but by the protective mother and the tv station who tried making as many contacts it could, spreading the word, Im sure to protect the child.
And someday, Mo may play in the nfl.

This is a bigger story than it should be.
For sure, it would be a 2 or 3 paragraph story on page 15 if it did not involve a football player. I suspect that an example may be made of Mo (California) because he is a football player. Right or wrong? I don't know. I've always had the attitude that because you are representing your high school, university, etc; you should be held to a higher standard of conduct. The whole role model thing, you know? Also it should be a privilege and an honor and that implies behaving in an honorable manner. The tricky part is that technically Mo was not a Husker. This happened in March of 18 but he had signed an LOI so that means Husker Nation had embraced him as one of their own.

There are still lots of unanswered questions. As someone posted yesterday, we will probably not get them all answered.

Article I read this morning said that Bay Area got the information from the DA's Office. I am unsure how it played out.

If the parents were so concerned about protecting Taylor, I would have thought that they would have insisted that her face was blocked and voice disguised. Another one of the weird issues that I have with this entire situation. Things do not add up to me.

My gut feeling is that the mother is the one who is vengeful and that Taylor is going along with her wishes. Again, I do not know that, just how this comes across to me.

If Mo was a woman, right or wrong, should they then make a big thing of this?
Who or what he is, or does shouldnt matter.
In the heart of identity politics, where everything is political, it matters.

Yoy have a woman come to you, an innocent protective mother, its your job to corroborate her claims, happens every day, except where and when they dont want to.

IMO, yes they should. When I was in HS, our athletes were held to a higher standard and that is what I am used to. Senior Year, our star BB player blew off an assignment right before a big game. He did not suit up and was not even sitting on the bench. He got his homework caught up and didn't miss any more assignments.

Not quite the same as this, I understand but this is what I grew up with. We expected more from our athletes. I have no problem with that because of how they are idealized and now called "heroes". If you are going to be a role model, than be a damn role model.

Thats unfortunately how I see it too.
Moms vengeful, you have to ask yourself, what good would come of this to let your daughter revisit all this?
If mom was so protective, she would have known how young Mo felt about her daughter when they were together as a couple.
If mom had brain one, she might have thought that just maybe Mo was harmed also in the incident, and that contacting Mo was not a good idea.
She either didnt know Mo, or didnt care, but continues to wear that protective badge proudly.
Im told to love the world, but some people make it harder to do so.
She is one of them.
I hope Taylor and Mo come away from this a better and wiser two people, I think mom may take longer.

I get what youre saying about the athletes, but this applies all accross the board, be it the debate team, cheerleaders etc etc.
It should in every respect be held to the same standard, and intrusions allowed upon them all, just like a famous athlete, where they spend their time upholding that standard, not just on the field, but everywhere they go.
But, if a debate team member gets in an argument over ordering a meal, it goes unreported, or a myriad of things in their lives.
We offer forgiveness and dont consider those things,or even apply such things to those representing the school.
Its we who make the mountain out of the molehill, and if this were Taylors cheerleader friend who did this, would it matter?
Even if she were a DONU cheerleader?
Would mom have done what she did?
Would then, the judge ever sign the warrant?
Would the tv station do the follow up?
Kick em while theyre up, kick em when theyre down, but not just kick anyone.

Actually yes, same standards should apply. Anytime you are representing a school, especially if you are getting a free ride. This a definite black and white/no grey issue for me.

Then, we possibly would never know about this in my made up scenario, because the judge and others simply wouldnt pursue it, and or, the tv station wouldnt have the needed impact still digging in the dirt, they wouldnt waste their time.
If the above has any truth at all in it, it once again becomes inequal justice, and I then have to reassess whats happening here, regardless of my one standard for one individual, it must meet my standards of all, and then come to the conclusion the courts themselves might not hold the same standards across the board for each individual, and that alone is a far far greater crime.

If not treating a cheerleader the same as a football player, I find the courts incapable of finding true justice, and accuse them of selective justice, a prejudiced justice.
Again, if this is true, then the Mo story is only messed up, but our courts are way messed up.

I'm not sure I agree with that but you're certainly entitled to feel that way.

I seriously believe that another of the daunting problems we face as a society today is putting these athletes up on pedestals. Then our youth see what these "heroes" do and strive to emulate them. Would love to see the emulation stop and like stop now.

As I've posted before, we lived in Leavenworth, KS for almost 25 years. We were huge Chiefs fans, season ticket holders, the whole 9 yards. I have very vivid memories of the day that Derrick Thomas was involved in the accident that ultimately claimed his life. He was late getting to the airport for a flight to either a play off game or the super bowl (don't remember which). At any rate, I happened to be on the highways that day as well. Road conditions were horrendous. He was driving over 100 mph, weaving in and out of traffic, lost control and ejected from his vehicle because he wasn't wearing a seat belt. Threw a blood clot from one of his legs and ultimately died of a pulmonary embolism. I bring DT up because he was a GOD in the KC area. Everyone had DT jerseys and other memorabilia. This young man had 7 children by 5 different woman. Needless to say, he did not marry all 5 of these women. WTF kind of example is that setting?

A bit off topic but germane in how we give so much "respect" and adulation to people whose only claim to fame is that they are athletically gifted and play a game well. Egads!

And some people dont like Charles Barkley, one of the most common sensical athletes ever.
I dont like it when people demand these players to live to their ideals, many dont embrace the spotlight, or if they do, its with a proper persepctive.
How Charles Barkley Changed America's Perception of Athletes - The Shadow League
Children arent left on their own to determine their role models, adults usually lead the way.

You lost me there NH.

Parents should be thumping their kids over emulating athletes but don't often enough, I guess. But to put someone on a pedestal (adults do it just as much as impressionable teens) because of how they play a game; all the while, excusing bad behavior wobbles my mind. That's all I'm saying. Off field behaviors tell me that these are not figures that our youth should be emulating. Hell, it's hard to find someone worthy of emulation in this day and age. I can probably count on one hand the number of people I think might be worthy of that. I'm not even sure if I can fill up one hand and I don't think my standards are that high.

Wow has this thread run off the tracks? I have my doubts as to what honestly happened and we have to let it play out. My hunch on this, is simple, if Mo doesn't send that 10 second clip to the girl, he is still a rising star for DONU. But that's not what happened and we all know it.
