Mike Dawson replacement

With full confidence, which will turn to delight, SF is going to get a mover n shaker, a real guy, a great coach.
He could make someone's career, just pure speculation, but being on this staff is the right time, right place in cfb

I notice you didn't edit Doc's comment.

Wouldn't have to have edited anything had you not, again, turned a thread into personal attacks.

We all criticize coaches and players -0 none of them need to be defended by us... but you've been warned before, as have others, to refrain from making repeated negative comments and personal attacks.

Enjoy your vacastion.

Sure does seem like a best-kept secret at this point.
Yes it is. I'm sure some know, but nobody that I know does.

I've made no secret that I wanted Jerry Montgomery, but when Northwood says it's a no-go, then I believe him:(.

Right now Craig Kuligowski (say that three times fast) seems to be on everyone's lips. A few outliers are being discussed.....eg Ron Aiken, Kenechi Udeze, Parrella, and even Jim Leavitt (I would be VERY surprised if this one happened).

Right now it seems that many believe that Scott will step outside of his former "contact zone" and go with someone who meets his criteria without having personal contact with Scott or Chin. I'm keeping the faith and saying that I don't think so. What that contact is, and how in-depth, I don't know, but I just don't think it will be anyone with any risk to Scott's "one direction" theme. They have a family coaching in Lincoln right now and I doubt Scott wants anyone who MIGHT cause inconsistent messages in any shape or form.

I saw Carlos Polk mentioned elsewhere but given what Kuligowski did at Missouri he would be my choice of the names I've seen.

So... why did he leave? Just to be in the Pros or what?

Assuming you are talking about Dawson, I'll take a stab at it. Until he joined Frost in Florida, Dawson was an East Coast guy. The farthest West he'd lived was Philly. This job brings him 'back home.'

It also reunites him with his defensive pals when he was an assistant to an assistant for the Eagles and, with all due respect to Nebraska, gives him another big time job at one of the NFL's most storied programs, the Giants. Also no more wild cross-country travel for recruiting.

Only Coach Dawson knows the entire reasons, but the above seems to be the most thorough and reasonable explanation I've heard.

He was/is well respected by the players he tutored, and by all accounts he was instrumental in several recruiting "gets". He was familiar with Coach Chin and his style, and he worked under Kelly. Imo he is going to be missed, but he's not irreplaceable. No one is IF you have a coach who can find the right fit to replace, and I personally think we do.

My GUESS is that no one here was blindsided, if that was the reason for the question of why he left. The closest comparison might be asked by the question.....Why did Scott Frost come back to Nebraska?

The next question that might come up is what about other coaches doing the same (Beckton comes to mind), and I think it's possible. So is the fact that coaching in college is brutal. I personally could not think of anything more demanding than recruiting high school players......especially in a place like Nebraska.

There is also the question of job promotions at other places......we are going to hear about that too.

What I don't think you will see is wholesale staff turnover......such as happens at Alabama when things don't go perfectly.

Pat Shurmur was named head coach of the Giants on Jan. 22. You can rest assured that Dawson had a job offer shortly after that. You can also bet that Mike informed Frost of it at the time.

To Mike's credit, he stayed loyal to Scott and the Huskers through the next few weeks as the Huskers wrapped up this year's recruiting class. As we've seen countless times from countless coaches, he could have chosen to 'close up shop' and head out of town immediately -- but he didn't.

That's a pretty classy way to wrap up his Husker tenure if you ask me.
