Mickey Joseph

Not sure how much he actually needs to revamp. In the B1G our offense was:

#3 total (447.6)
#4 scoring (27.9)
#5 passing (266.4)
#6 rushing (181.2)

Yes we need the RB room to step up and carry (literally!) their weight so we are not so dependent upon the QB's legs but other than that if you take away the turnovers our offense was good enough to win several games this past season. In addition to turnovers our downfall was obviously special teams. Eliminate or minimize either one of those issues from this past season and it looks entirely different. Our conservative playcalling at times was also our achille's heel and allowed opponents to get back into games (and eventually win obviously).

Pretty incredible stats, doesn't seem like they belong to a 3-9 team.
Defense numbers were similarly good - except for points given up per game - which is a reflection of the turnovers and terrible special teams.

Good points made ATX! Your last sentence is why I've been mistakenly overly critical of Frost's scheme.

You gotta be kidding. You gotta be kidding. That is the Frost system. Am is doing exactly as Frost wants. How else could he be there? You might as well blame the receivers for Am2 errant throws. They are only as good as a QB that can hit them in stride down field. He fumbles, he gets picked and he is still out there, The running backs don't get their carries and the WR don't get their catches. This version of the spread stinks to high heaven. Frost should be invested in winning for the Huskers, not standing up for a QB that cant finish.

Four years of Martinez ball has not had the desired affect.

Not the first time someone has posted something online that wasn't verified and won't be the last. Like the poster said I think they were trying to jump the gun and be the first to make the announcement. Mickey could or could not end up in Lincoln. Only TA, SF and the parties involved know.

Feit: Another One Down the Drain for Nebraska Football - All Huskers

Interesting article especially when referencing the Northwestern game and how that game affects the offensive numbers.
Numbers are what they are and you can't take out games and plays and last minute scores in other games and this game. 3-9 is what it is. Close loses are just that loses.

The problem with this offense is it is way too reliant on the play of one player. When 80% of your offense come from the QB, you are setting yourself up to lose. First, when that player is injured and not on his A game you will struggle. Second, when you play teams with good defenses they will key on him. It is well known that when playing NU that the key is to stop or limit AM. That has worked well enough that NU under Frost is 15-29.

Don't be misled by stats that are skewed by games against weak teams. When assessing a team look to see if players are reaching their potential. Do you think Yant is capable of more than 300 yards in a season? Do you think Manning should have more than 26 catches? Do you think the O-line play is acceptable? It is only my opinion, but I think a lot of the offensive players are not performing anywhere near where they should be.

Frost's UCF offense was obviously similar - but it seemed like they had much more YAC production than what we have seen the last 4 seasons. Maybe that was UCF's players. Maybe that was the defenses faced (B1G is MUCH tougher defensively). Maybe it was play calling - but I would guess Frost DID call some of the same things he used at UCF year 1 in Lincoln, but if you can't block it due to the quality of defenses faced - you gotta change your game plans accordingly.
He also had to optimize the offense to the skill of his QBs.....well one specific QB. The fact he has been chained to a slow blinker turnover machine that puts up great stats............well I guess we'll see if that can be changed/corrected with a new OC and likely a new QB (hopefully under center at least some of the time).

I don't see AM as a slow blinker or a turnover machine. I see a player with a lousy O-line running for his life on nearly every play. When you are always playing from behind and forced to take chances, turnovers will happen. Did you see any improvement with Smothers? No, you saw a raw QB thrown into the game and asked to carry the game. No holes to run through and heavy pressure every time he threw. You cannot be as predictable as NU has been on offense and expect to win. When the QB is that much of the offense defenses will stop him.

I agree that AM plays behind a lousy O-line BUT Adrian doesn't help himself much either.

As fans, we all watch the action with an internal clock that clicks to a point where we're all saying "throw the damn ball" or "quit looking and RUN dammit."

How many times does this reaction occur during a Husker game? Too damn many for my book.

I can't argue with any of that. However, if you are playing with a broken jaw, a high ankle sprain or a badly injured shoulder you may be a little hesitant to test the run game. It is also a lot easier to see what is happening from the 45th row than it is to see through that 6'5" DE who is bearing down on you.

Most passing games are based on timing. If that timing is interrupted due to pass rush pressure it becomes more of a guessing game. When you watch AM in a situation where the pass protection holds up he is among the best. However, when he is flushed, his awareness drops greatly.
