I'm actually kind of glad to hear what HCSF and SUHnami described. The players have been criticized pretty roundly for a perceived lack of desire and will-to-win.

Consistently over-shooting gaps on D speaks to the opposite.

The coaches'll get 'em where they need to be. Better to be dialing 'em back a bit vs. trying to light a fire under their a**.
I watched that broadcast as well. The line play was not bad, they funneled the play to a hole. The problem was with the linebackers. They continually ran to the wrong spot, over ran the play, or woofed on the tackles. The commentators mentioned that a couple of these guys play like 4-3 linebackers not 3-4 linebackers. A couple of these guys are not particularly fast either. To me it looked like a couple of these guys have a low football IQ. They don't see what is unfolding in front of them. They don't see the cutback lanes opening up and fill the hole. They just kept right on running like they expected the runner to go outside.

This is my problem with it, they have plenty of time to cross the field if needed, even if they slow to square into the backside, once the rb makes his move, youre mostly in position to fill, and can fire in, if the rb goes outside, squeeze the rb between you and the seal, with the safety coming up,he also in position, as he's not confused by the over run, and also out of position.

I try to keep the internet radio broadcast just loud enough so I can hear it during commercials (with buffering, it is always about 1-2 minutes behind the live action).

I watch Husker football with the Roku, either the FoxNow or ESPN app, then use the TuneIn app to get the radio broadcast. With this method it's the other way - radio broadcast is up to a minute or 2 ahead. So, I hit *pause* on TuneIn and time it so that it's synced up. It might get out of sync a few times during the game and I have to intervene, but I much prefer watching/listening to it this way than the TV announcers.

Really wish someone could come up with a *real* app/program that does this; would think there'd be high demand for this sort of thing. I'd probably even be willing to pay for it (provided it was at a reasonable cost :) )

I just wonder if the patty cake football he coached in the Pac 12 and UCF hasn't somehow ended up causing him to flat miss what he teams needs to be in the B1G. I hope he can fix that - but games like last night make me concerned we might have caught a rising star that isn't really cut out to be a Power 5 head coach. He deserves more time - but put me in the concerned category after the Minny game.

That was really my only concern with the hire of Frost and the one thing I think he'd have to adjust to - the physicality of the B1G. I'm hoping that his *marriage* of Husker Power and Oregon Speed leans more toward Husker Power as time goes on.

But with the emphasis on S&C again (and nutrition) and as long as everyone is practicing (multiple stations), as time goes on we should see the dividends on the field. That's why I still have faith in this season - there's still almost 4 weeks until WI, and 6 until Iowa. Plenty of time for the proverbial *click* to happen in men's minds....

The LBs, especially Barry, seem to play with fire, but it seems to me (judging from Frost's comments) there are also some issues with desire, intensity or whatever you want to call it. Frost was trying to light a fire under their a$$ when he was yelling at them to run off the field during the Minny game. And, Frost's comment about "some guys weren't ready to play a physical game" doesn't sound like dialing them back is the issue. I think Frost is dealing with a variety of issues with different players, so he has his hands full for sure....

This might where some of the seven games in a row, guys beat up with no rest and healing with no bye week which almost everyone else had.
I watched that msu game, and their D wasn't it's usual great tackling, great angles, they had broken tackles, no wrap up etc, then I read where others saw the same thing.
This is no excuse, and it's certainly not the sole reason, but I think it's one of several for the performance of the team.
The cleaner we play, the less energy we use, the more effective we are.
If what I saw,and I came away with my thoughts alone, I'd be in the dark, but when my thoughts were shared by a few that I respect, I know what I saw was in part correct as to the why we played so poorly.
But, our O line was close,Mo kept misfiring, but both Mills and Wandale made some plays. Warners presence was felt, JD,as beat up as he was, made a few plays.
So, I believe our offense has some life in it,and our D which has been carrying the team alot this year, has finally gotten the rest they need, plus resetting and going back to basics will revitalize them imo

I am not saying they are too slow to play the position. If they read the play right and fill they are fine. Where their lack of speed is apparent is when they are not in the correct position and chasing the play. They lack the speed to make up for their mistakes.

Some of that is being slow between the ears, their eyes not in the right place, not trusting what they're seeing etc.
We are faster than we were when Iowas rbs were bustibg off home run hitters up the middle and neither our safeties nor d backs could catch them.
Or, our LBs couldnt catch a NW qb etc.

I was not talking about the safeties or DBs. Those guys are playing well. I was looking at the LB play and they only showed a few plays so that may be biased as well. But I agree with the slow between the ears. Like I said they don't seem to have a high football IQ. They need to be aware of the cut back lanes. Especially after getting burned once.

I don't envy any part of HCSF job except when it comes to payday.

The issues are not one thing. Offensively we just are not very good and Frost has dialed back the play calling to try and minimize mistakes/turnovers even when it results in 3 and outs too frequently. Maybe there are some effort issues.....Mo was for sure one but that problem as been addressed.

Defensively - I think we have a mix of bad execution and poor effort. Which makes fixing it perplexing. Execution - you work on in practice, in game coaching, etc. Poor effort....at this point chewing ass and benching guys is probably all the levers HCSF has left.

Special teams - the two things stand out - kickoff coverage (And we have to cover almost every kick because we don't have a good PK available)....and off course PK. That impacts play calling, 4th down decisions, kick-offs. It probably would have helped at Colorado (much better shot at W). Did not matter for tOSU and Minny.

I couldn't possibly agree more with you sir.

It's my blind opinion that in the Big10 you simply must have smashmouth linemen. Fluff-ball, no matter how popular, simply doesn't work here.

If you can't run the ball between the tackles in the Big10 you're in deep, deep doo-doo. Same thing if you can't stop the opponent's running game. Probably not needed nearly as much in the AAC or even the BigXII but here.....as we all know, just results into losing, losing & more losing.

Of course HCSF knows that far, far better than I do. Us fans will just have to slam down those patience pills.

Yes sir, I bet HCSF is hitting the Jim Beam very hard. I surely couldn't blame him.....
