Lump sum payments are history

Yeah- let's say there actually WAS some angst by some backers over how Moos handled that matter... paying it off seemed dumb. Gave money away.

In the millions. And i dont think, as he said, that it was standard procedure. If that was the case then why was bos contract termed out?

He did seem to be passing the buck to "policy" or something similar......agree it was a non-answer. He KNOWS why it was done - just not willing to say it. I suspect we though Riley would retire soon and stick us with the full balance so they paid it off - only to have him get the AAF job and look a bit stupid. So Moos can't say they were stupid - just that they will look at it going forward. Pelini could get a better paying job - DC for an SEC team would pay big money - made sense to go month to month on Bo.

This is where I'm at. Put it behind us, and don't have the "We are hand tied by previous debt" when new expenditures are talked about. He thought it would be a nonissue........despite the fact that it was poor business. Imo he was wrong, and now he might not have debt clouding future expenditures, but he brings into question his ability to manage money. Imo it was a misstep that will haunt him. And no, it was not a policy of the university.

The good thing is that he has been taken to task, and there will be oversight when new decisions are to be made where finances are in question. I'm pretty sure lump sums will not be paid again UNLESS there is a total reduction in the amount.

If there had been a fan poll taken back in November about whether Riley would ever be a college or pro head coach again, I swear the results would have been 99.2% NO.

For all the hand-wringing over the lost money (which, I'm sure was the real reason behind the recent Moos rumor), there's something to be said about putting the past in the past and moving forward without those payments hanging over the department. Personally, I can't fault Bill for taking that approach.

Its possible there are factors not revealed due to legal concerns. There was a situation in the past I happened to know something about that to this day the public doesn't fully understand. Due to honor, it cannot be spoken of. I am not an insider but I was connected to someone who was in this case. I think a lot of us who live in Lincoln may find ourselves a bit more knowledgeable at times due to circumstance.

For myself, the language strong but ... the demon's have been exorcised so that part is good.

OMG,,,listen up, who cares what we paid him? Its not our money out of our bank account. He is gone and we have Frost and man, that is all that counts.

Explain Eichorst. Nobody expected him to retire

Poignant post.....

It's hard to plan for the unexpected, but probably not wise to allow the possible, no matter how remote, to sneak up and bite. Boosters want fiscal responsibility for their inputs and no one should blame them imo. I agree you could have counted me in the 99.9% of those who never thought MR would have a 1/2 a mil job coaching again.....but he did.

If there are extenuating circumstances it might be best that ADBM was as obtuse as he was, and let husker success bury the situation. Moos does not alone control the purse strings.........and that is probably good. It's just smart business. There are always things that the general public does not, and should not, know.

I was privy to some information (NOT NU RELATED) in the not too distant past which was not allowed to see the light of day. There was public outcry and it was one of the hardest things I have done not to step up and tell "the rest of the story". Sometimes one must just eat the bullet, and take the hit. If you can't do that, you should not allow yourself to be in the position to make those decisions.

Okay, I admire the integrity you guys have shown.

But let's face it: You're both a couple of partypoopers when it comes to entertaining your gossipy message board friends. :)

If I am figuring correctly Riley got about 60% of what he would have gotten if he would have gotten by means of a monthly payments. I was under the impression that he had a five year 2.3 million dollar contract. In total, that would add to 11.5 million. It doesn't list the specifics but it doesn't look like a bad deal for the U. Or am I missing something?

Yep...….and most of them (boosters) hammered Ronnie Green for it. Things aren't perfect with Ronnie Green and Moos and this was a big part of it.

I guess if you are a booster to the program......even at the lowest level...…..it effects your bank account because you donate with a certain amount of belief that they will be prudent in their spending. If they are going to throw it away...…...maybe I shouldn't donate at much.

I think (anyone correct me if I am wrong) that MR was hired with a five year contract initially. He was given a one year contract extension to run through 2020. There were three years left on his contract upon the lump sum payment.....not five.

WTF? They made the payoff weeks after he was already on the payroll at Oregon State for a measly $50,000. That 99.2% is probably more representative of the number of Nebraska fans that wanted to challenge a $50,000 salary to an Assistant Head Coach.

It just doesnt work that way
