Lump sum payments are history

Since we're talking about Riley being a pro head coach again in San Antonio, I thought I'd mention that I saw a picture that was tweeted of Smiling Mike in the winning locker room following the game.

I kid you not, I spied Shawn Eichorst in the background of the shot.

It just doesnt work that way

Oh but it does... I was part of a project many (many many) years ago and a major Nebraska donor (by this point in time he'd given what totaled to well north of 20 million in various projects) and philanthropist was also a supporter of our project... or was going to be. He was SO UPSET at some decisions made by the athletic department and elsewhere in the U that he thought were 1) imprudent and 2) not what he preferred (and I am talking petty details) , that he cancelled discussions with us to even though we were not connected to the U but were "close enough".

Cost us more than 50% of a planned budget and ultimately scuttled the project.

I worked in and around nonprofits long enough to know that that is exactly how it works. The donor that doesn't want a hand in the decision, or the color of the rug or how big their name should be and in which font was very rare back then. And it is much more rare now. Every donation and grant is burdened with a great deal of specific use clauses and more. There's really no time when somebody tosses a few million at a program and says "do whatever you want with it".

Well Eichorst is working in at UT in Austin. So he's only about a 2 hour drive from San Antonio.

I believe you are talking about one guy right? I know guys that donate and they dont specify where the money goes or how its spent. I believe the 2017 tax act cut way back on deductiions like this, correct me if Im wrong.

We shouldn’t color all donors with the same brush but there are definitely big money donors at Nebraska who see themselves as the ‘Jerry Jones’ of Husker Football. Donations are all about feeding their egos. It’s one reason I don’t envy the poor dept. fundraisers who have to put up with their bullsh*t.
