Think about it. We as fans are the last bastion of allegiance and loyalty in this sport we all know and love. Here are 5 foods for thought. Which is almost a 7 coarse meal.

1 Did you ever think head football coaches would take lateral moves from places like Notre Dame and Oklahoma to LSU and USC? Will there ever be a breed of coaches like Tom Osborne at NU, Bobby Bowden at FSU, and Chet Atkinson at Oklahoma? Doubtful. No more loyalty to a program.

2 The number of high-profile players in the TP is mind staggering. The days of Bert Jones, Terry Hanratty, and Jerry Tagge are long gone. Now it's all about "show me the (NIL) money!"

3 I understand assistant coaches doing the George Jefferson. We're all looking for that deluxe apartment in the sky. But will there ever be a staff with the continuity that Coach Osborne had? We just had a D-line coach bedowngraded (thank you Coach Gundy) from Mighty Nebraska to Oregon! That's right...Oregon. Many of you youngsters are too young to remember the article that ran in Sports Illustrated back in the 70s that said the 6 worst college programs in America are from 3 states... Oregon, Kansas, and New Mexico. You do the math. Now we have coaches leaving the Nebraska of the Plains to take the same position at Oregon? It's like when a tourist visits a Mexican Restaurant in Burque and they are asked what kind of chile they would like. Pshh Mild Please!

4 Finally, here we are. Searching BHF hourly to see what the next QB rumour is and who may be heading to Nebraska. Here we are, hoping our sellout streak will last another 50 years, just to show them who's boss. Here we are, wringing our hands over the recruiting class ranking. Here we are, highly anticipating the Spring Game in hopes of seeing Smothers or Haarberg take the bull by the horns.

Sadly I believe fans are way more emotionally invested than college football deserves these days. And I believe college football is ruining college football.

Maybe.

All I know is, I'm worn out at times, given what it takes to be a fan. Worn. Out.

And that's w/ a lower-case "f" compared to summa youze...

One more thing. And I hate to go all DB Cooper on this very important topic. How many of you are having pizza from your favorite joint tonight? I've done extensive research and discovered 74.5% of all human people crave pizza the day after Christmas.

I think this year is a bit of an outlier. Actually. I think this year will be looked back on as "That Crazy First Year of the Portal."
Hundreds of players are finding out the grass isn't greener out there. The opportunities to get a better gig are WAY less than a lot of these guys expected it to be. In the future, IMHO, there will be much fewer players entering the portal. It will be limited mainly to highly skilled players who have many options, and players who couldn't get playing time at their level and move down to an easier conference. There were over 800 portal entrants this year. I suspect next year will be more like 300.

This post is a masterpiece. The DB Cooper reference was subtle but firm, which is exactly how I like my boxing day pizza.

We had Godfather's last night. It was more because hub is a bit under the weather and wasn't up to cooking. I'd been downstairs working on putting a new zipper in a knee length coat for a customer and didn't feel like standing for 30 minutes cooking. We had just had burgers Christmas Eve so the only solution was pizza.

The number in the portal is large. The percentage of those players that are game changing is small. The percentage of players in the portal that actually find another school and succeed is miniscule.

But yes - MONEY has ruined/is ruining student athletics.

Losing is what is ruining college football.
If Nebraska was winning, going to bowl games, winning divisions, conference titles and in the playoffs, most everyone could care less about transfer portals, NIL, guys leaving, etc.
The playoffs and massive conference monies from TV contracts/basketball tournaments and massive coach pay is why we are where we are. The NIL, transfer portal, players leaving after 6 months is a result of coaches getting 8 million a year and leaving after coaching 1 or 2 years into their contracts.

Hear that, nothing wrong with Christmas burgers though.

With every game on TV - it changes the dynamics of college football. Yes it is cool to be able to see so many games but the negative side effects of the visibility and money is what we see now (plus ESPN has put their own interest ahead of the sport way too often).
Not sure it can be fixed.

That said - money and TV don't always have the intended results on sports (NASCAR, MLB, etc.) - CFB is just another example.

short answer: Yes.
Is there a guide for reaching this conclusion - like this one??

But this wasnt the first year of the portal.
