I'm enjoying me some Husker BBall!

Free throw shooting has been a problem all year - but scoring against Big 10 defenses has proven to be beyond this groups ability. I see the potential - but they tend to go into give it to Teddy mode too easily when they struggle to score and he is a black hole of not dishing out assists.........we'll see if the Mayor can keep dialing up the D and find some ways to improve scoring.

Teddy Allen is an enigma or whatever you want to say. There are times you watch and think, yes let him do what he does. He hits shots, scores, makes big plays and then there are times he dribbles up the floor and shoots and its a one and done with no points.
The offense has to run through Banton. He can be the guy to make things go. Hopefully things will maybe change when Walker plays and there is now another big(ger) man in the front court. It's such a tough league. I still think .500 would be a great season but that would mean winning a lot more the second half of the season.

I dont mean to belabor the point but Hoiberg has led us to an unfathomable 20 straight conference losses.

THAT is not Tim Miles' fault. That is an awfulness unseen before at this program and there has been some awfulness. Something to note, in Tim Miles second year at NU he landed a spot in the NCAA tournament and was named B10 coach of the year.

In all honestly Hoiberg doesnt seem all that engaged in what hes doing. No one would ever label him a great coach but he was above average at ISU. He seemed to have a ceiling but did alright. The Bulls were not good but you can muster up excuses.
Its not wholly what has happened here but what is happening. Whats he trying to accomplish? Yes, he's got a supposed 5 star on the hook but what's he done with the talent hes had?
Like Frost, I wanted him to succeed but good lord I would have liked it had the Hindenburg not caught on fire.

Maybe I'm too old school but I think you have to have a big man. And this program hasn't had a decent big man in a long, long time. And I mean a big man that you can put on the block and force the defense to double for kick outs. It also leads to the problem of trying to guard the bigs of the opponents. And most if not all Big 10 teams have big body down low. What Hoiberg wants to do will work if you have elite shooters. Problem is Huskers don't have any of those. There may be a game or 2 by the end of the year when this team hits 15-20 3's in a game and beats someone but as long as they can't make shots it's going to be a long year. Looking at possibly a losing streak that reaches epic levels.

I didn't realize that we'd hired Doc Sadler back as head coach. Although Doc never lost 20 in a row in conference as a head coach. Team is playing decent defense but has had I think 4 or 5 shot clock violations in the first half against Michigan St.
Hoiberg needs to get his offense figured out.
I won't be surprised if Allen isn't back next year.

Teddy seems to be his own worst enemy. And opponents know that and do what they can to frustrate him. He seemed to block things out in 2nd half versus MSU. He gets no favorable calls as he is so strong that refs let him get bumped. And when he drives and forces contact he gets offensive foul.
Giving up 2 offensive rebounds late versus MSU doomed any chance of winning. Teddy and Trey are good 1-2 punch but nobody else doing much. Banton seems in a funk right now. Yvan has his moments but few and far between, Mayen has been huge disappointment and can't stay out of foul trouble. Thor works hard but no confidence in his shot. Shamiel is mia and has done nothing when gets a chance. Lakes is defensive liability and only hit shots versus Doane. Webster seems to be 3rd best scoring option but has been inconsistent. Andre is a project but think there is some potential. Walker will finally get his chance against Purdue in next game.
Been looking at what people are saying about 3 kids coming in next year (cuz that's husker bball mantra) and scouting reports all say they have high basketball IQ to go with their talent. Hope that is correct.

While the record isn't pretty, let us face it the schedule has been brutal. The last 4 or 5 games have all been against ranked teams. This team is still a couple players away from being on that level. I am encouraged by the fact that they are not getting embarrassed. I am thinking they will also be better when Walker returns. The post seems to be their Achilles heal.

Speaking of free-throws, I read an article about Shaq sometime back. He bought a yacht and when asked why he named it "Free-throw", his response was...…"With my luck I knew it wouldn't sink" Who said big men don't have a sense of humor.

No game tonight so my mind wanders.

Welp....another loss. Huskers come back from 18 point deficit to take lead in 2nd half. But the ol' scoring drought shows up and lose by 8. Oh did I mention there were some missed ft's late that could've tied it. Wash, rinse, repeat.

The tally is now 22 straight losses in conference.
That is the most horrid streak in P5 ball currently. Only Chicago St., whatever conference they may play in, are topping the vaunted Huskers in all of college ball.

Yeah, I known, gee willickers the conference is sooo hard (said in the voice of a whiny 14 year old girl) but you can't play Doane every night.

I have a sneaking suspicion the team is going to fare 'a tad bit better' than 13th out of 14 teams in the Big Ten this season as all the 'experts' are predicting. :)
.(quote from Ol Doc Fumblerooskie)
You do this to yourself every year.

They "look" better with Walker in the mix but as was said earlier, the same old same old keeps showing up that has for 2 years...err 5 years....errr 7, 10, 12 years of Men's Husker basketball.

Well the good thing with the pause in team activities is that Nebraska has extended its 22 game conference losing streak.

Nebraska plays a basketball game and there is no mention of it on the entire board. With the longest active conference losing streak in college basketball (Chicago St. has a longer one but they shut the program down for the year) you'd think there would at least be some anger.

Huskers look and play terrible in return to action versus Michigan St. They only lost by 10 but Sparty played poorly as well. If not for 11-24 ft shooting, 3-17 from 3 pt range and an 8+ minute fg drought in 1st half this game was there for the taking. It very much resembled a game between the 2 worst teams in the conference.
There wasn't alot of action on the board when the basketball team was mediocre so isn't that strange there is little to none when they are historically bad. And guessing you know how bad it has to be to be historically bad for this program?
