Huskers Rhule

When Nebraska gets on a roll, can you imagine how much Pub Coach Rhule and the team is going to be getting from National guys like McAfee?

The day I am worried about is if we win a Conference and/or National Championship and then other schools, say like Penn State, start making offers. I mean yeah Coach Rhule loves it in Lincoln, but an offer to coach at Alabama or returning home to Penn State? Would Coach Rhule stay? And if he leaves, then what? Are we back to irrelevance? Because our track record for going from one extremely successful coach to hiring another and maintaining the excellence is...not great.

Our chances are better of retaining him if he feels like he can maintain that level of success here rather than he hit the lotto with a couple of great players (ie: Dylan) and needs to strike while the iron is hot to get a "better" job. Yes he is a PSU alum but who is to say that is a better fit for him (we all learned that the hard way with Frost). From all indications he and his fam love Lincoln and the university, his son is now enrolled at UNL and his wife opened her business. He said in an interview over the offseason basically that he is tired of moving his family around and would like to plant roots. If he can get the program trending in the direction we are all hoping (and expecting) where we are an annual contender for the 12 team playoff then I can foresee him sticking around and trying to build his legacy in Lincoln.

PS - I am not too worried about the NFL I think he realized he loves the college game

Yeah I'm not worried about Coach Rhule going back to the NFL either. I think he's more suited to the college game, like Nick Saban.

And I hope you're right, but I dunno, if Penn State comes a callin' might be too good for him to pass up. Hopefully we won't have to worry about this for 20+ years.

Straight up ATX. The added bonus is he says golf courses in Nebraska are underrated. He ain't going nowhere.

Hmm, Penn St. just gave Franklin a 10 year contract worth over 7.5 mill a year, with a $70 million dollar buy out. Rhule has a $72 million dollar buy out at NU. One would assume Rhule would demand a similar or better contract at PSU. That adds another 75 mill or so. That means PSU would have to pony up over $ 200 mill just for starters. That doesn't cover the assistants or other staff members. Anyone who thinks that will happen needs to cut back on the wacky weed.

Matt Rhule's Top Ten Reasons for staying at DONU.
  1. A Big Dawg Program Facing Hard Times. If you are a competitive guy (which coach is) there's No Better Situation to take over than a tradition-rich, CFB Blueblood program in desperate need of a re-build.
  2. Family Considerations. The Rhules' have two young daughters who they don't want to move again once they get settled. The Rhules' son is a UNL freshman. His wife, Julie, is happy here and starting her own business. You know the old saying, if Momma's happy, everybody's happy.
  3. A Farm for the Family. Julie wanted the family to live out on a farm like she did growing up. They bought one east of Waverly.
  4. Living like A Kid in a Candy Store. Coach has the kind of situation here where he can literally get just about anything he asks for. Want a grass field? You got it!!! Want a new AD to replace Trev that you would feel comfortable with? Give us some names!!!
  5. The Opportunity to Set-up and Run a Big Dawg Organization. Coach was given the resources to build a behind-the-scenes organization that most NFL general managers would envy. But in college, at Nebraska, he runs it as the CEO.
  6. Salary Considerations. You win, you and your coaches will be compensated. You win big and you will not need to uproot your family and go elsewhere if you want to become the highest paid college coach.
  7. Financially-Secure University. During his search, Coach said he specifically sought a school with a financially-secure athletic department. Nebraska is the only school in CFB that is currently debt-free.
  8. Coaching in a Football Nirvana. Nebraska has the passionate fanbase of an entire STATE. Rhule jokes where else can you go and regularly get visited by the Governor? While it could intimidate an insecure coach, Coach Rhule has shown he thrives on the 24/7, 365 days-a-week fishbowl attention his program draws.
  9. Great Facilities. Coach has arguably the best football facilities in the country.
  10. Fun. Rhule said last week he's having more fun than he's ever had in his life coaching football.

Not gonna say he is gonna go or stay . But look at the numbers
The buy out and contract numbers ( as previously mentioned
The fact that his family ( wife ) is happy
And if he turns this program around he will be put up with the coaching greats
It don’t mean everything but at his age and the time it takes to go big this should be his last run if it goes right

Re: ^^^^^^ this interview.

Rhule gave his usual 'A' interview but who was the interviewer?

He looked familiar but I couldn't place him. He was horrible. His body language said he could care less about the interview and was going through the motions. And his questions got progressively worse as the interview went on.

"What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish?" followed by "What's your favorite Thanksgiving leftovers??!?" WTF??? Last I checked, it's AUGUST for crying out loud!!!

Today is the CFB Kick-Off game in Ireland. There's a cool story about the game that involves Coach Rhule.

Matt has been asked over countless interviews about his hiring by Nebraska. He said that he and his family had a chance to make a clandestine visit to Lincoln on a game weekend to check things out and were blown away by how cool everything was.

Matt said afterwards he cautioned the family not too get too excited because moving to Nebraska was far from a 'done deal.' A lot of things would have to get worked out. He said IF he got an offer from Nebraska, THEN they'd talk and added that he expected the Lord to 'weigh in' too by giving them a sign if it was the right move for all of them.

Sometime later, the family took a vacation to Ireland to "get away from it all" for a few days. Matt said they'd no sooner gotten off the plane than they found themselves face-to-face with a huge cutout of a Husker helmet (left over advertising from that fall's Kick-Off game.) He leaned over to his wife, Julie, and whispered, "I think we got our sign."
