Huskers Rhule

THIS IS THE YEAR!
Coach Rhule and Company have set the stage for Nebraska to return to CFB's Top 25 and playoff discussion.

Yeah, I said it. I've always been a bit of a Husker sunshine-pumper. It comes naturally given I was in high school when Nebraska won back-to-back national championships in the 70s. Many of us Husker fans spent the next 40 years believing it was our God-given birthright to see Nebraska in the Top 10 playing in big games for championships. This century has been nothing short of a nightmare for us.

But things have finally turned around. Fans who've been closely following what our CEO head coach has been doing since he was hired can see the off-season hoopla is very different this time around. There's substance behind it. Here are a few things that have me pumped for Year 2 of the Rhule Era:
  • THE BLACKSHIRTS. We're starting the season from a position of strength. Having Tony White and our front line returning is huge. White's approach of rotating lots of players will give our new stud recruits an opportunity to show early development.
  • DYLAN RAIOLA. It's impossible to not to get ga-ga watching Raiola's highlights tape. I know, I know, we're talking high school BUT his poise and maturity shines through all four years of his HS career. I know he wears the same number as Patrick Mahomes but the comparison is almost freaky. There are plays where you'd swear you were watching an old Mahomes HS tape.
  • THE OFFENSE. Yeah, last season's offense was awful. But there was no standing pat and expecting improvement as last year's string of injured O-players got healthy again. Rhule conducted a MAJOR overhaul this off-season. We added: 1) a veteran stud to an ever-improving O-line; 2) a pair of young QBs as good as any in the country; 3) a B1G-worthy RB stud; and 4) two premeir WRs who may play in the NFL down the road. Also, plug in Carter Nelson. He may or may not redshirt, but the kid is gonna be a difference-maker. And don't forget our new QB coach from the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers. He ain't too shabby either!
  • THE SCHEDULE. This one is a bigger deal than most people may realize. In college football, the schedule is often a huge factor in the success or failure of a football team. Last year, starting the season with back-to-back rivalry games on the road is a tough draw for any new head coach. This season we will play seven straight games where we will be the favorites going in. It has been my experience that when a college team captures some early momentum, the development of its young players often turbo-charges. There's nothing like the atmosphere in Lincoln when the Huskers get off to a great start. It's been some time ago now but I've seen it happen many times before: If the Huskers get on an early roll, LOOK OUT!

Should be favored in those first 7.....the Prime hype might get the gamblers on sCUm hard - so I think it is possible we'll be a home dog to sCUm. Hopefully motivation for the Huskers to show up and play their arses off in a game that gets lots of media coverage. Honestly sCUm will have the better offense - we'll need our QB to play well to get a W - tough ask if we have a true frosh starting.

Fumble Those things you mentioned could happen and I hope they do.
Will they? We'll see. I do think we have the players to compete. Now they need seasoning. If the ball would have bounced a few more times in our favor last year they at east could have gone bowling.

I would LOVE Nebraska to be dogs in a night game vs sCUm! You can rest assured that the fans will bring their A++ Game to Memorial Stadium.

The early season games will be the key. As I said earlier, if this team can get on a roll — with a big prime time win over sCUm — this team goes as far as our QB develops.

One of the things about Coach Rhule that I find endearing is that there are times when you look at him and can see 'the 12-year-old boy' that's still inside him.

Trust me, there's few big-time coaches in CFB or the pros you could say that about.
Working with some time constraints lately have left me with time enough to read my favorite site, but not respond as much as I’d like, The above post however just screams for a response. and a double:thumbsup::thumbsup:…….especially since I never really could put my finger on the above until Dr. pointed it out. For me, nothing embodies his boyish enthusiasm like watching him leading his daughter onto the court after the men upset Purdue in Lincoln…..A boy’s spirit in a man’s body.

I am firmly in the camp where my optimism for the 2024 season may be classified as "unbridled." All the signs point to a grand resurgence of Nebraska football and certainly this year's recruiting class, highlighted by 5* QB Dylan Riola, plays a tremendous role in sustaining this aforementioned optimism. How many times last year did we, as Husker fans, say:

* If we could just cut back on the turnovers we could have won.

* We need a QB who can see the field. In practically all our games, we had many plays where WRs were wide open and whoever was QB (Sims, Haarberg, or Purdy) either didn't see the receiver or didn't have time to throw.

* The OL, after starting 2023 poorly, did improve as the season went on, but their performance is far below where it needs to be.

All these issues have been addressed through recruiting and the transfer portal acquisitions. Of the first 7 games, 5 of them are at home and the potential to be 7-0 going into Columbus to face Ohio State is there. The 2024 Huskers will go as far as they want.

I don't know what the 2024 season has in store for Nebraska, but I'm more optimistic than I have been in the last 20 years at least.

Remember our Qb will be a freshman, Dylan or Danny. Tamper those championship dreams a little.we will be better , let’s just not kill the kid when he throws a pick with the game on the line. or start trashing him on line ( twitter /X stalkers )
A less-than-perfect, wet-behind-the-ears Raiola is still going to be significantly better than anyone we had last year.

The best part is he’ll continue to develop as he plays more games. By the time he gets …oh, let’s say seven starts under his belt, the game will have slowed down considerably for the second half of the season. You can be assured in this league that teams are going to mask coverages and blitzes and try to rattle the freshman. But they might find they’re in for a rude awakening. CFB hasn’t seen a young QB with his talent since Trevor Lawrence.
