Huskers Rhule

I think the 2027 recruiting class is added job security as well. I get it, we all want to see more out of Rhule, he has been outcoached at times
Let's review this "outcoached" business. I would guess that these instances of getting outcoached occurred when Nebraska was favored and lost.

Here's Rhule's Husker record in games we were favored by sportsbooks when the game kicked off: 17-5 for a winning percentage of 77.3%. By season, it's 2023 = 4-2; 2024 = 7-2; and 6-1 for 2025.

The five times we lost as favorites were:
2023 (twice) at Michigan State L 17-20; Iowa L10-13
2024 (twice) Illinois 24-31 in OT; UCLA L 20-27
2025 (once) at Minnesota L 6-24*
* the week of the media circus about Rhule going to Penn State.

Remember, he took over a program on a six-year losing streak -- and NFL draft picks that reflect that. As the program has stabilized and our players are getting better, keep in mind Rhule's winning percentage as a favorite.

Let's review this "outcoached" business.

Good post. Whether it is fair or not, Rhule getting "out-coached" really falls on his two primary assistant coaches, the OC and DC. The criticism is that in key moments our opponents usually seem to come up with a play or call that immensely helps them to win the game. I think that's what some fans are pointing to.

For example, last season for Nebraska, a smart / competent DC would have used a spy concept against every team because in nearly every game the opposing QB would often run for big gains and/or key first downs. And Nebraska's defense last year always seemed surprised that our opponents QB would take off and run.

Regarding the OC, I, and pretty much everyone here, has criticized Dana Holgorsen, but as an OC, you're in kind of a no man's land when you're QB has metaphorical cinder blocks for shoes. Having a slow QB takes away the option, read option, waggle, and run game. That's a lot of tools missing from the tool box. Add to that our exhaustively well-documented woes at the OT spots and yeah, I can see how/why Holgorsen probably could not design the type of game plan he really wanted to.

Regarding Butler, I agree that he didn't seem to have a good feel for the college game. FWIW, ChatGPT confirmed a suspicion I had: new first-time DCs in the NFL are more likely to be hired from linebacker or edge rusher position coaches than from the secondary. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case in college too.

Regarding Holgorsen, I agree with what you've said. In many ways, this is his first true year where he has free reign to call his game.

While running QBs are more much of a thing in the NFL now than even a few years ago - it exposes your most important player to getting blown up if they aren't extremely smart about how to do it - I don't think you can ride a QB's legs for long (Allen and Lamar are trying to prove me wrong). Butler seemed to be from the old school NFL approach to D that didn't worry about a QBs legs. I am sure he tried to adjust but unless you are teaching key/reads correctly it is easy for "assigned" defensive players to miss things and be ineffective at stopping it.

A LOT of those TV Dads, I would be PO'd about being compared to, see Al Bundy and the Toolman. Loved Home Improvement but would not want to be compared to him nor have him for a father. Must be time for football to start when pundits start writing ridiculous articles like this one. LOLOL!
Tim would make a great father

Not to be a wet blanket, a negative naysayer, a cynical Sarah, an argumentative contrarian, or killjoy, but regarding the twit in Post #1776, meh.

Beat Indiana, Iowa, win on the road, start showing up in the big games, and taking over in the big moments, then I'll start getting hyped at speeches like this again.
