Huskers Rhule

Yet it's more evidence that Coach Rhule is trying everything under the sun to take this program from bad to good to great. It's not easy anyplace but especially for a B1G team playing under a microscope for a fanbase desperate for greatness again.[/QUOTE]

I have never seen a new coach at any program make so many (as I see it) positive changes. The progress has been slow, but it is still progress.

What we need now is some continuity while these changes take effect. The coaching carousal has to stop. I am seeing some good reports on Wade and Brown. I think these are the two most needed improvements on the coaching staff. When the lines play well it is much easier to make the rest of the team click.

I am hoping and expecting to see some real improvement in the next two or three years. I think NU will be a team that we will enjoy watching in the near future.

Totally agree! Nobody liked the way last season ended but it was a real head-scratcher for me to hear folks calling for Rhule's head. Yeah, let's FIRE the bum after two straight winning seasons following SEVEN straight losing ones. But I know it's not about logic, it's about emotion. All of us fans vent our frustrations in different ways.

I like the team Coach has put together for 2026--especially our new QB--and will be interested to see how this team stacks up against this season's line-up.

In today's game A LOT depends on your team's QB. I'm going to ROTFLMAO when Kentucky realizes their roll in Nebraska landing a breakout star next fall. Oops. :)

I like Colandra's attitude and his Joe Kapp-like moxie--if you want to see the Huskers play with a 'chip on their shoulders' this fall, trust me, HE'S THE GUY YOU WANT TO SEE LEADING THEM!

FWIW, the camp reports I'm hearing about Anthony reinforce we're getting exactly what we thought we were getting. If he becomes the spark plug our perennial "average 18 points-a-game" offense has been missing, our prospects change considerably.

Yes!!!
The standard should be to average over 25/game AGAINST B1G. You'll lose a lotta games averaging less than 20 in the B1G. We have been very pedestrian with our offence. I always want a QB who is a selective gunslinger. Sometimes you have to gamble, sometimes play it safe. You gotta have a QB who is comfortable saying it's on me, I'll make the tough choice.

I only hope I'm understanding when he throws the inevitable pick into tight double coverage, heheh.

I think Nebraska notching victories over the top teams in the conference and teams like Iowa that we struggle with every year would go a long way to your point of making the football team enjoyable to watch again.

I agree. One thing you will see in a team like Iowa is continuity in its coaches. They may not have the best talent, but they have coaches who know their players and know how to put the pieces together and get the best results. They don't make mistakes and beat themselves. They all know their role and what is needed from their position and trust that the other coaches do as well. They turn players into a team. When that continuity ends you get Wisconsin or Northwestern.

A spark plug is important. I think EJ provided that last season. A player you can depend on when the game is on the line. You often lose a lot of that leadership that is needed when you have an underclassman at QB. We seemed to lack that leadership on defense as well.

However, especially at the QB position depth and competition is just as important. The difference between a good and a great QB is often someone pushing him to keep his job. Don't count TJ out either. NU didn't do well at the end of last season, but his play was not bad. With a few starts under his belt and an off season to think about his play and adjust, he may come out this fall and surprise a lot of people. He has a great deal of talent. Maybe even more than Anthony.

Cigarman may have hit on a big reason why our offense has sputtered for so damn long.

It's TEN YEARS since we've had a graduating senior starting at QB for the Big Red. FWIW, it was also the last time we finished the season with eight wins.
