Honest ? on officiating

That last drive spoke volumes to me. Northwestern was given the benefit of the doubt on every play and nebraska wasn't. The roughing call was the worst, it didnt meet the definition in any way. Both of the grounding calls that could have been called, would have been called if the role was reversed. Both were close enough that at the very least a flag should have been thrown and picked back up after talking it over if they decided it wasnt an illegal play.
Thats the key,isnt it?
Its like the refs were cyaing to the crowd, and just speaking what wasnt being called as to get no notions that this might have happened approach, like they were ahead of the game, ahead of the facts without having to even discuss them.
Weve had one game like this this year too.
I dont want it when its bogus for us or against us.
I want the players play within the framework of the rules to win or lose games

Right on....and it's been every game. They go out of there way to halt any momentum for us with a holding penalty, etc, and aide the opponent in prolonging drives with no call penalties on them or questionable penalties on us.

I am very seldom part of the "Refs screwed us" crowd but this is an excellent summation. It seems every time there is a critical time in the game the refs throw a flag, and it goes against Nebraska 100% of the time...and often times even the announcers admit "there wasn't much there but oh well, it all evens out"...except that, well....it hasn't!

Osu went I believe it was two years with one holding penalty a few years ago.
Now, if anyone can make a claim as to fair officiating in the Big, this fact alone blows that bologna up more than pulled pork.

Holding calls are so subjective. Since OSU and Mich are considered the flagships of this conference they are going to continue to get the benefit of the doubt.

Ok, but when does getting to twenty straight games get boring even for the refs?
At some point, you have to call something if not to just justify your paycheck

The call on Davis was bad, the no holding calls on 65 pass attempts, no way that happens, and the illegal procedure call to pacify the Nebraska folks with 1:00 something left that stopped the clock and allowed to set up and call a play.

In 30 years of watching football, there is only 1 player that I can think of who I never thought got away with holding, and that was Zach Weigert. Darn near every play holding could be called on someome but like you said its too subjective.

Agreed, but the obvious ones that the whole world can see that happen right in front of the ref should be called every time. Sorry they should be. The problem is the other team who has committed many blatant holding calls right in the front of the refs never get called.

I would hope Moos, the AD, would pen a letter to both the Big 10 commissioner and the head of refereeing stating what we have been seeing with the terrible refereeing.

The refs didn't lose this game for us. There is no overt conspiracy to throw flags at Nebraska.

I say overt because I do think human nature might play into this situation. We have developed a well-deserved reputation for holding. Experts say holding could be called on both teams on nearly every play in most games. It has to be obvious and serious before a flag is thrown, or so we're told.

I do think subconsciously the refs watch us for signs of holding. And unfortunately, we do hold quite a bit when there are mismatches at work.

It is hard to explain how Northwestern ran 65 passing plays without a single holding penalty. Maybe they're just that good...maybe not.

No way in hell they are that good and there were several obvious holds by them not called. It was nice they tried to placate the Nebraska crowd with a motion penalty 58 and half minutes in to the game for their only flag. However, that backfired as it helped Northwestern by stopping the clock for them.

Well the two grounding calls should have been spot fouls with loss of down. When the zebra picked up the hanky, both times it resulted in a first down and score. I dont know how much more agregious you can get. Timing is everything. 65 pass plays and only one 5 yard penalty? Half of our penalties came in the last 5 minutes and NWU had none. Come on
