Fall Camp 2025!

It's hard not to get sunshine-pumpy when you listened to an OL man like Knaak. What an impressive young man.

The thing is, you could say that about each and every one of our top 2 units of OL men. They all stand out: Evans, Lutovsky, Rocko, Gottula, Teddy and the rest. I can't wait to see how they play together as a unit this fall.

A 'Must Watch' Presser! Coach Rhule at his best.

The one thing that tends to piss me off is when Rhule stands at the podium waiting for more questions---and nobody asks another one so he goes. How does this happen??!?

I swear if Coach was answering questions from our BHF gang, we'd have kept him there until he begged off saying, "Sorry guys, I've gotta leave now."

It's that time of year and my hopes are once again probably a bit higher than they should be. I've been waiting for year three since he was hired.

Hope you are all well and life is as good as it can be.
I wondered when the dogs were going to drag you in.

I thought I told Arlo & Missy to just play with you outside but they don't listen to me.

Here's the stats. Reminiscing, it was probably odd for Holgerson to watch the awkward throwing Taylor Martinez outduel Brandon Weeden in 2010.
A season-by-season breakdown of Dana Holgorsen's offense
His season numbers are outstanding in offense-first leagues. In his bowl games as an OC or HC, the numbers are less consistent. Hopefully he can make enough improvement this year to help get more W’s while he’s still figuring out how to attack B1G teams.

So we've hashed, rehashed, re-rehashed, and re-re-rehashed all of our concerns regarding position groups.

But here are my concerns for the 2025 season on a macro level.

1. Will we see "Jekyll & Hyde" games? -- Meaning we look like incompetent fools against James Madison North, er, sorry, Indiana and then look like a playoff team against Ohio State?

2. Can the Defense stop the run? If Cincinnati with their Ohio State and Wisconsin transfer RBs can run right at us, we're cooked before we get in to B1G play.

3. How many "Bryce Benhart" moments will we see? On an absolutely crucial down or play, will our players make the play or f it up like Benhart did against Iowa? (The play where Benhart gave his standard 1/4 effort which led to the Iowa DE beating him like a drum to get a strip sack, cause a fumble, which enabled Iowa to steal a win.)

4. Will we see 5-6 missed FGs that directly led to Ls?

5. What about our punt protections? The blocked punt Boston College had in the Pinstripe Bowl almost caused a L.

6. We've all heard about the offense and how they think they'll be explosive. Will they?

I believe this year is Matt Rhule's do or die year. The "Year 3 Jump" has been overly chronicled, However, to that point, does the two data points hold true for a 3rd time?

But here are my concerns for the 2025 season on a macro level.

1. Will we see "Jekyll & Hyde" games?
Given the youth of our team, ‘trap games,’ particularly our trip to Minneapolis, is always a possibility. If we can avoid it, it will be because of our coaching staff. Rhule’s ’playing to the standard’ talk is reminiscent of Osborne back-in-the-day.
2. Can the Defense stop the run?
If a B1G defense can’t stop the run, they’re screwed. It seems like it should be a no-brainer, but I still have nightmares of Wisconsin RBs running roughshod over us. Bottom line, I think we’ll be surprisingly good as run-stoppers.
3. How many "Bryce Benhart" moments will we see?
Nobody is perfect but I see our OL cutting down on the number of hurries and sacks this season. A part of it is that I see Dylan getting rid of the ball much quicker this year.
4. Will we see 5-6 missed FGs that directly led to Ls?
No. Nobody is expecting perfection, but the whole FG operation will be significantly improved. Last year our long snappers were bad. How we ever got in such a dire situation in the first place is one of many reasons Foley was canned at the end of the season.
5. What about our punt protections? The blocked punt Boston College had in the Pinstripe Bowl almost caused a L.
The number of blocked kicks last season was mind boggling. This alone was reason to fire Foley.
6. We've all heard about the offense and how they think they'll be explosive. Will they?
We’ve got a former 5-star QB with a year of B1G experience under his belt, a veteran OL, a talented RB, a new OC known for his explosive offenses, new WRs that new OC Holgorsen handpicked from out of the portal, and lastly, a guy named Jacory Barney. That sounds pretty promising to me. :)
I believe this year is Matt Rhule's do or die year. The "Year 3 Jump" has been overly chronicled, However, to that point, does the two data points hold true for a 3rd time?
The reason for Rhule’s previous bumps was because of the quality of his recruiting and development. While today’s game is different than when Rhule was at Baylor, it still factors heavily into this team’s depth. We haven’t seen this kind of depth in a long, long time.

First of all, I don't see Cincinnati as a pound the rock team. Their stats indicate they have a fairly balanced offense with a lean toward the passing game. As for their running backs. Walker didn't impress me last season at Wisky. Against NU, Walker had 14 carries for 55 yds. Prior was little more than a scout team player at OSU. I think he had like 55 carries for the season. They are both RS seniors who were down the chart backs for their prior teams. I don't see either of them carrying a team.

This year's D-line is unproven but are talented. Last year's group had big bodies that were hard to move. They were used primarily to gum up the middle and make everyone run outside. I see this year's group used in a more conventional way. Their job will be to keep the linemen off the LBs who will fill the gaps and stop the run. They are also much more mobile, allowing them to pursue and better pressure the QBs.

I also think NU's offense will be very hard to stop and will score a lot of points. In short, Cincinnati will move the ball some and make some plays but not enough to stay in this game. NU fans will be able to celebrate early.

Yes, yes and yes. I think we will control the game early and will win. Cincy will put some points on the board but not enough to seal the deal.

GO BIG RED!!!

Cincy went 5-7 last year and when you're losing you have a tendency to go to the air more later in the game. Being in the Big 12 and appearing somewhat balanced on offense combined with that losing record says they try to live on the ground. Much of the Big 12 has taken to spread offense, air it out, but I wouldn't classify Cincy as one.
Although they do have a very good Tight End we should be mindful of.
