Yes, it's a serious question.
Bo went hard after a referee following a call that, while questionable, was nowhere near as critical as the one that went against Burtch at PSU last week. As I watched in the stadium I started wondering if he was trying to get a penalty to fire up his team, kinda like a bball coach taking a technical. It seemed that over-the-top bizarre at the time.
Then there was the fake field goal that was run directly at an Iowa defense that had just called timeout (no doubt to make sure they were prepared for the fake). I've since heard Bo say that a missed block blew up the play. I haven't watched a replay, but that's not how I recall it. From my vantage point, the play seemed DOA, almost telegraphed.
As I walked out of the stadium with the other dejected red-clad fans, I listened to the post game press conference on my trusty headphones and really started wondering whether Bo wants out. Coaches that value their jobs don't call out refs, especially not with derogatory expletives. Questioning a call is one thing. Categorizing it during a press conference as "chicken****" is another. He knows that behavior warrants a reprimand and likely a fine from the B1G. Did he care?
Then the icing on the cake... a coach that wants to continue their employment doesn't unapologetically dare his bosses to fire him. After hearing Bo say, "If they want to fire me, they can fire me", I wondered even more whether Bo Pelini has had his fill of Nebraska.
So, after this long debate about whether or not Nebraska fans want Bo Pelini, I wonder, is the real question whether Bo Pelini wants his $7.5 million severance pay more than he wants to coach at Nebraska?

POST SCRIPT - It is now obvious that Bo believed his job was lost during/after the Iowa game (ex.. telling Greg Sharpe that he wasn't going to to TV interview because he would no longer be coach when it aired). All actions must be viewed through that lens.
