Dan Mullen

Mullen is probably on every AD’s short list. Supposedly Frost’s agent has acknowledged a NU offer but he doesn’t have just one.

Well the NU offer should be the only one that matters, if this is his dream job. If he does have an offer and goes somewhere else I will not be happy....

It's funny that I see some of the same comments about Mullen as I did about Riley a few years ago. I wanted to believe it then, but I won't be fooled again.

"He did well with less, and at Nebraska he'll do great." Sorry, I bought into that sales job the last time and I won't be doing it again. Not to mention why on earth would he leave MSU? Their program is in better shape than ours.

Ultimately, it all comes down to having talented players. TO may not have had great recruiting classes, but the players were great. It's been a very long time since the Huskers had more than five fingers of NFL talent on either side of the ball, and it's going to be at least 5 years until they do again. That's under the best of circumstances, which is a very tenuous proposition right now.

I'm older, and the losses don't even phase me anymore. But I'd love to be engaged again, yell and scream at games that really matter. We're all like beaten dogs that don't even react anymore to the misery.

I don't know what happens next, other than I pray it's going to finally be a step in the right direction and take the Huskers back to being competitive on a national stage.

And I have absolutely no idea how well Scott Frost would do at Nebraska, but I can guarantee you the power of a fan base united behind a hometown boy would make some gigantic waves in the college football world. We haven't been united since 1997, or maybe 2001, but I honestly believe Husker national all together would change things around here in a hurry.

If both Frost and Campbell pass, then Mullen should be the guy.
Not trying to pick a fight but please explain why you feel he would be the guy then ?

I just don't see the type Coach this mess is going to take to get cleaned up in him period. Sure a nice win loss record looks good on paper but those do not mean a thing coming in here......it's really going to take a very special guy to fix what needs fixed and make great what's bad here.....and nowhere in his background do I see that drive or ability to motivate plus he is not at all familiar with the type offense that's really who NEBRASKA is all about.....if you go with another Square Peg guy were just going to go through this same danged thing only we will be further away from what we have got to do.

Doc.

Dan Mullen would not be my first choice, but his teams are always competitive in a tough division of a tough conference--had his guys in the top 5 a couple of years ago and has beaten Alabama as much as anyone the last several years--had a chance to win vs Alabama last week until the final play--and you know he doesn't have anywhere near the raw talent Saben has recruited

Again not my first choice--probably not in my top 5--but it's not like he would be a hire out of left field

My man, it's not about picking a fight. This message board stuff isn't personal.

It's about discussing opinions, I hope we're all on the same page, but I realize that we won't be.

I just wanna see Husker Nation be Husker Nation again.

BTW, I agree with you, Mullen is way down my list.

He's had success in the toughest division in CFP the last 9 years, at a place that is incredibly difficult to recruit to. Plus his success as an OC at Florida.

Neither will Frost.

Neither will Frost.

Difference is Frost knows the expectations and fishbowl at NU and how to work within those bounds. Mullen would be just like the Billy C and MR, get blind-sided.

He's GA'd at Notre Dame, and been a coordinator at Florida. He knows what expectations and fishbowls are like.

Ok I get that he's had luck in the SEC but the last time I checked......

1 this ain't the SEC....
2 Mullen runs another version of the Pro Style Offense, how many times do you need to see that fail here in Nebraska and our Division to realize it just WILL NOT WORK HERE !
3. Mullen has never shown himself to be a great recruiter or motivator of young men......where he is now he gets the once in a while gem that the other SEC teams miss but mostly gets the guys that have been picked through by the other teams in the SEC .....they are good enough to get him some wins every year but not to dominate his division or Conference.....

Oh and I never said anything about Frost in my post to you.....but you highlighted the part where I said he has no idea what Nebraska or who NEBRASKA was and has got to be to win in our Division and Conference....are you kidding me ?......Frost ran the Osborne Speed I triple option game as good as almost anyone has ever ran it.....so he has a perfect Idea who we were and need to be again to win in the Big 10.

Please people try to grasp this......because of our geographic location and the population of our state we don't have the numbers of athlete's alot of other states have....Coach Osborne studied this problem and worked out a way to not only combat that but also Beat it.....He kept nearly every homegrown kid in the State at Nebraska and he did a great job evaluating and developing that talent.....

He grew the walk on program to a point where kids from the surrounding states who never got a look from a big time program would rather walk on at Nebraska than go to a lesser college and play .....he made it so attractive to them they would rather get grants and scholarships to pay their own tuition just so they could have a chance to play and prove they had what it took.....Coach Osborne welcomed those kinds of kids here with open arms.....and then if they did indeed have what it takes.....he got them with the right people and developed them into great players.....sure not all of them made it to the NFL but they did get to play and contribute here at Nebraska.

Secondly a Pro style Offense (Which by the way Osborne was very familiar with as a player and Coach ) just didn't fit the type of Weather and players that were readily available here in state.....however.....the Big Strong quick footed Linemen it takes to be a great Running team are grown in Nebraska like Corn almost.....you go watch much 6-8-11 man football in the State and just about every team in the state has at least 1 kid who could make it at NEBRASKA playing some spot and playing it well.....see home grown kids have that little extra that out of state kids don't ....it's called PRIDE.....and it is a powerful tool if used in the right way......see Coach Osborne knew that the in state kids would push the out of state kids to Excell far beyond what even they thought was possible....this is where Dr. Tom Osborne's sports psychology Doctorate came in real handy.....he knew just what buttons to push and how to get the best out of each and every player.
But he also was smart enough to understand anything worth having is worth working for.....and he passed that work ethic on to his players.....that if they put forth the effort the rewards we're there to be had.......and he was right.....the harder the players worked the better they got the more they won and it just snowballed from there.....it wasn't an overnight deal it took years.....but once built it was fairly easy to maintain......that is till Frank Solich got fired and this whole mess began......so if you need proof......if you gotta have a road map......it's perdy easy to find......it's Grand Designer is right there in Lincoln to be tapped into any time.......when is some bright Coach gonna see it and get hold of it before it's too late. ?

Way different circumstances regarding fishbowls in a recruiting hotbed and a state (Florida) that has many other D1A teams and pro teams to diminish the fishbowl. Nebraska has one major team to root for and follow primarily. Mullen has been mildly successful in the SEC. In otherwords he's on par year in and year out wins/losses that BO was at NU.
