D Line Coach Watch

I was kinda , in the back of my mind thinking it might be a good idea
I'd like this too, but I'm not sure he has had the time in the past. Currently, I'm assuming all those nonfield assistants are there for several reasons, but one has to be so the head coach can prioritize his time. I confess I can't think of too many more important things this season than bolstering our D-line play. If he's really an asset I would think it would have been a wise use of his time. If he wants to insert himself now is the time to make it clear to the new D-line coach, before he's hired, that he's going to be a part of D-line coaching going forward.

The only problem I would see if Rhule becomes the DL coach is that he wont have time to go to other groups to check on them. And yes you should be hiring guys that you trust to coach those positions but as the HC you should also be going to all the position groups and checking on them in practices. How will you know what being taught and taught correctly if you dont?

Well, it looks like Rhule is actually hands on with DL. I’ve mentioned several times in other posts that TO would do a “HandsOn” with any position group if they had some bad game performances. He didn’t have to yell at players or Assistants. By merely showing up at their position practice, he got his message across to all concerned. I don’t know if he has been doing that all year, if not, he should be.IMG_0198.jpeg

During Tom Osborne's tenure, I remember reading an article where Charlie McBride, our DC, made 8t a point to coach the incoming freshman on the defensive line. His reasoning was he wanted to start the freshman off right, start them off with the right techniques, leverage, etc. If Rhule's intervention in the D-Line for the bowl prep yeilds positive results, maybe Rhule should forego hiring a DL coach and coach the DL himself.

I think this whole "Rhule personally coaching the Dline" is more about getting an inspired effort from a Dline that has been run over, around, and by, by any decent running team. If you think he has a magic bullet to teaching D linemen, you are delusional. He is doing everything and anything he can think of to prevent us getting mollywopped on national tv. I'm not streaming the game, normally I would pay a month's subscription somewhere, but for this I'm going with a radio broadcast. It will be a test of my fanhood to stay in the Shoutbox for all 4 quarters.

(I'm as delusional as the rest- I predict a Nebraska victory 13-12)
I'm counting on the roof malfunctioning and a sudden ice storm.

We are in a different world now. A head coach has many more responsibilities than TO had in the day. HCMR is not going to be the DL coach for the season. He'll hire a good one from those who are available. The DC is more important to me. He is the guy who sets the standard of performance, holds people accountable, and makes in game adjustments.

I dunno, if we see DL actually getting off blocks by using their hands, then that alone could be the magic pill.

I saw a headline that another of Utah's lineman (presumably OL) has opted out of the bowl game.

With their coach going to Michigan, some of their players opting out, this bowl game might not be the blowout loss I initially was thinking. Nebraska might actually have a puncher's chance here. Or maybe, my brain is desperately clutching at straws to try and find some semblence of optimism? Either way, the test of your fandom is not staying in the BHF ChatBox until the clock hits 00:00 in the 4th Q. No, the test of your fandome comes when Utah is winning by 28 points and there is still 7 minutes to go in the 3rd Q. Do you stay and finish watching the game? That's the real test...a test I failed versus Minnesota, Penn State, and Iowa.

That's where film comes in. If other position groups are not being taught the right things, it'll show up on film--practice and game.

Not having my favorite Husker, Deshon Singleton, is going to make the Dline look worse. Deshon is a ball-hawk and stopped many runners just after the LOS. Runners that get redirected or slowed by the Dline may not get cleaned up. We don't have anyone close to his talent to fill in. I am starting to feel ill.

Geez, embarrass me why don't you. But, I have an excuse. My wife turned off the TV in the third quarter of those three games. Then she sent me on a fool's errand: she needed Spoilove Paint Remover. Six stores later, I came back empty. Game over.

I may not stay in the chat box, with all the negativity even during wins it makes bad games almost unbareable in there. But I never stop watching until the clock is at all zeros.
I took my 8 year old son to his first game, KSU vs the HUSKERS. Franks last game. About half way through the 4th quarter he looks at me and says, we just arent going to win this one are we. I say nope. He says well why dont we leave. And I simply say "its not over and we wont leave until it is, you never know what you might miss if you leave". Folks all around him said, hang in there buddy it will get better we promise.

84's story reminded me of a story a female coworker of mine told me the Monday after our Hail Mary win over Northwestern back in the day.

She said she and her husband got up and left the stadium after Kellogg took a big sack on third down on our last gasp drive and were walking across campus back to their parked car when they heard the stadium erupt like a sonic boom. She said she turned to her husband and said, "I'm guessing we screwed up."

Moral of the story.

Never don't give up.
