I, like so much of my generation, am a "fixer". Unlike so much of todays society, I am not happy to be part of the "throw away" society that I have been forced into. I think things should be fixed until they have proven that to continue to do so is folly. This fact becomes even more pronounced when it comes to people. I supported Doc until it was clear to me, about a year before termination actually happened, that he was not the coach to lead this team into the future. The same held true with Mike Anderson. I lost faith in Coach C faster, but still held hope until the last year of his employ.
I must say that for all their good points, and there are many, that I have lost faith that this staff has the ability to prepare a team to get over the hump that lies between us and our dreams. Losing faith in the abilities of the staff does not mean that I wish them, or the team, ill. I will cheer for the team. I will still go to games when I can. I will still post here. And most of all I will appreciate those who still believe. I just am not one of them at this point.
The next two weeks we will be playing two teams......One, Minnesota, is so well coached that I am envious. The other, Iowa, is what I see in our future.....complete mediocrity. It is time to show that we can play smart....and clean.....and hard.....and occasionally beat those at, or above, our level. I don't know what to ask the staff to do to make it happen, but I do know that, for me, they have not shown the ability to make these things happen.
Everyone has been talking playoffs. Not me. I just wanted to control what have the power to control.......to win our conference. My goal was to win it twice a decade. Bo has been here seven years and maybe he will pull it off.....but I've taken myself out of the camp that believes he can. Reasons are becoming excuses and the inability to adjust to the better teams we play is becoming a standard.
It won't become a mission of mine to bad mouth the staff, the team, or the program. I see no point. But neither will I spend my "fan time' defending the job this staff has done. They need to prove something more to me than they have at this point.
