Colorado Reaction

I'm down with trash talking on a message board but in the stadium I treat opposing fans like I want to be treated in their house. Period!

Like I told Chris in another thread, for **ANY** other team, I 100 agree with you.

But for sCUm? We, as Nebraska fans, didn't start this culture of unbridled hatred. Former sCUm coach Bill McCartney started this fire and now they have to live with it. So whatever bad treatment our fans gave sCUm fans and players, I am 99% sure it wasn't enough.

I just hate them so much.

Not only did a former sCUm coach start this hate-fest, but so many of Colorado's players are dirty and try to injure Nebraska players. It is this culture of hatred, that they started, combined with dirty play, that fuels my intense animosity for those out west sCUmbags.

I get all that but I witnessed rude fan behavior from Huskers against Okie State when we played them at Arrowhead years ago. I was sitting next to OSU fans and I was embarrassed by the drunks behind me. They were rude, obnoxious and hurled profanities unnecessarily. I don't want to be treated that way and won't respond in kind to any fan in person.

Everyone is free to do as they see fit. I just hate that our fans are losing parts of what has made our fan base stand out from all others.

In an embedded YT video from page one of this thread, two guys, Mike and Conner, talked about our kicking game woes and I think that deserves more attention and focus from not only us fans, but sports media as well.

I've watched Shedeur's postgame a couple of times. Not seeing thatt he did that. Asked about the offensive line he said:

Yeah - he did say "rookie mistake" ... but generally. He said a few good things about NU, it's gameplan and the defense. I didn't get that this was a guy casting blame as this writer claims. Not defending Sanders in any way... just suggesting this writer take off his bias goggles.

It's unfortunate that some Nebraska fans have stooped to this level. A friend was at the game and said our fans taunting behavior of CU during warm ups was "at times disgraceful." I don't care if any player "provoked" such comments, we're supposed to be one of "the classiest fan bases," let's remeber that.
It not just at NU, it is a sign of our times. People are rude and intitled now. Hell, go to the grocery store and you will see some asshat throw a fit and want to fight someone over nothing.

video games I tell ya... It's all them damn video games
I thought I was going to get my ass kicked at Price Chopper in Leavenworth about 25 years ago. 10 AM all the day before meat was marked down. I had a package of something (a roast or hamburger - not filet mignon or whatnot) in my grocery cart and some woman tried to grab it. I was having none of that and kept my hand on it. I kept custody of the package of meat but had a nice scratch running the length of my forearm. I quit shopping their discounted meat after that -- just wasn't worth the cat fights.

I was at the 1992 sCUm vs. Huskers game - and fans were pretty ugly that night too. I don't recall any items being tossed at sCUm players but plenty of verbal abuse was lobbed at sCUm as they came out to the field. Fans behind their sideline were giving it pretty good as well. In particular every time Bill McCartney stepped on the field we ALL yelled GET BACK BILL!! We had a sCUm fan right in front of us with his wife and although we gave each other a hard time - it was pretty much good fun - nothing over the top. Of the games I've been too - that Halloween Massacre was the most fired up I've seen Nebraska fans - of course it calmed down because we smoked them 52-7 but I think the energy in the stadium contributed to that.

I had a friend who was a CU grad and he loved the Buffs. We had some good-natured back-and-forth about the rivalry but all in fun. I remember searching for something nice to say about Colorado, so I said that I would like to attend a game in Boulder sometime, commenting on the beautiful scenery, etc.

This friend, who has since passed away, turned serious. "You shouldn't do that for a Nebraska game," he warned, "unless you go in neutral clothing." He said to wear anything Husker probably would bring physical harm and relentless verbal abuse. He explained it's part of their identity as fans, and that he himself had hurled plenty of nastiness at Nebraska fans.

When you couple that with the deliberate and unpunished twisting of AM's leg in Frost's first season, I arrive at the sincere hope we don't schedule them again for a long time.
