Bo is gone

12, 11, 14, 13??? Those are blowouts??? Come on anything less then 20 isnt a blowout.

There are still 10(!!!) instances of losses by over 20 points on that list.

This is the right decision, being successful at a University means having a great relationship with the powers to be, the fan base, the community, players and staff. If your at odds with the University admin. then you have not done your job to make it a workable relationship. I feel the U has done what it could in terms of supporting HCBP, but ran out of gas after the way last year ended. I was a big BP supporter but after 7 years and the way the season went it was time for a change.

One that will make Nebraska Football relevant in today's college landscape.

A new coach is needed in 72 hours and he needs to have a hell of a staff coming with him. Recruiting needs to continue its upward climb. NU could easily lose 8 commits this week

Do you actually believe these coaches just decided to take other gigs, often lateral moves? Did you forget about Marvin Sanders' ouster?

You can do your own search for the changes; it'll take about 5 minutes on NU's website. Of all the coaches who left, none left without "encouragement", including Carl Pelini.

Bo just facilitated as soft a landing for them as he could, because the coaching wheel never stops turning.

It's rolling over NU right now, as a matter of fact.

"Because the coaching wheel never stops turning." And today was Bo's turn on that wheel...unfortunately for him.
And it always will. People are now deriding the Bo haters because Bo got fired and yet most of them are all doom and gloomers over who will NU get to coach. Regardless of what people want to believe, people/coaches are greedy. Am I saying coaches will be lined up wanting to take the job...no? But the chance to rake $3+ million a year will entice some. And I believe ADSE does have a list of coaches. As tight lipped as he is who for sure knows whether he does or doesn't have a list? I also remember Bill Byrne saying years ago that every AD has a list of potential coaching candidates for every team. Because you never know what's going happen.

To all the people wringing their hands and saying how terrible this is..

1. College footbal is big business and the stakes are enormous. We were paying a coach over three million a year and he clearly was not getting the job done.

2. We had Ameer and Gregory, arguably the two best players in the conference and among the elite in the nation. And we couldn't even win the west division with a pretty weak schedule.

3. We were not progressing. Bo had NU on a plateau that we could not climb off of to ascend higher.

4. This challenge will bring new opportunities. Embrace the new opportunities.

There was this guy once, he coached football. Couldn't win the big one is what the FANS said. Couldn't beat Oklahoma. He almost left with his whole staff to coach Colorado but changed his mind cause he didn't want his staff to half to uproot there families. After Givin the time to build his program he one a **** load of games and his peers changed the rules to put him in the hall of fame. He coached NU. He made the state proud. But only after he was Givin time to build his program . It was FANS that almost destroyed what was to be , before it had a chance to happen.

No Gill. Research what was going on with the KU players. I thank him for what he did while a player, but leave it at that.

Indeed. KU wasn't a good choice for Gill, but he, ah, didn't make the most of his opportunity. Read: he ****ed up big.

Footballscoop is reporting that it was more of a mutual thing than one would think. Bo basically went to SE and told him things couldn't continue on like it had the past year. No word, though, on potential staff changes to save Bo's job.

I had said this a couple of weeks back. Bo was pretty much done with the fans and would likely make the first move. If true it certainly doesn't surprise me.

Guess I'm not as familiar with coaching searches, how often are coaches talked to before the position is even open?

When Osborne became AD but hadn't made up his mind about Callahan, he talked to an agency and basically told them "Find me a list of coaches who would be interested if the job comes open, but don't tell me who they are."

Exactly.....do you honestly think this years coaching crew was going to improve next year without Gregory, Abdullah and Bell? This was the year for Pelini to rise above the previous 6 years and he did not. This is a business plain and simple. I know many of you are well connected to these coaches and this change is very painful and irrational to you but 7 years has come and gone and is NEB football any closer to the goals we wanted 7 years ago? 3 conference championship games and 3 losses - no BCS games to highlight. I bet Pelini is an awesome guy to know personally and yes he ran a clean program and encouraged academics and this makes it hard to see him fired even with 9 wins per year. 7 years and a history of blowout losses on TV and no relevant hardware like a conference championship is proof in the pudding to me. I work for the financial industry and have 40 directs globally but I don't get 7 years to show a ROI - nor do I make anything like $3 million a year...

Bo won't get a sniff at a similar head coaching job. I'll give odds on that. I think we'll soon see exactly what the national perception of him is.

He and his home wrecker bro can go piss around for a while until Bo *maybe* catches an NFL coordinating gig.

I find it hilarious that some of you have hope that that's going to happen...

So, which of these guys do you see boarding a plane for Lincoln anytime soon?

I think that actually illustrates the point Bo-leavers are making. Is Bo Pelini considered in the same tier as any of those coaches despite being close in winning percentage? I dont think so. All of those coaches have conference titles, BCS appearances, and national titles.

There are also several coaches who, though they do not have as high of a winning percentage since 2008, are undoubtedly considered better coaches than Bo Pelini. Art Briles, Gus Malzahn, Jimbo Fischer, Bob Stoops, hell Gary Pinkel maybe? The list goes on.

And who could blame him?

You are way better than that Mark. It is the fans who ultimately pay the football coaches salary.

Simply stated, all I ever wanted (and I am sure 99% will agree with me) from Bo was for the team to play well regardless of who the opponent is.

I understand that in football, sometime things do not go your way. But giving up 56 unanswered points to Wisconsin and getting blown out so often on the national stage is not acceptable.

Change was needed pure and simple.

Keeping the recruits should be a priority. It's such a good class. The timing is most unfortunate. I would have preferred that Bo remain and that he make changes at OC and DC. But, I think he and the admin have been at odds, and while I'm not a fan of the admin I also think Bo did himself no favors by spouting off at the mouth. It appears to be a case of irreconcilable differences. But there's no doubt this will cost us some recruits and that's going to hurt. I guess we can hope that the new hire draws some new names that we haven't heard yet. I hope we don't get many transfers because there is a lot of talent on the team in 2015 if these guys stick around.

I'm trying to stay positive, but I'll admit, this is a little scary. On a positive note, I hope we get someone who can coordinate an offense much better than what we have seen under Beck/Bo. And someone who can handle the rushing teams in the B1G. I watched Minnesota play Wiscy yesterday and thought, how in the hell can Minnesota play Wiscy so well wish less talent than we have? Something is wrong when we get to the point where we can expect to get our azz whipped by the Badgers. Something needed to be done, but I really hoped the change would be at the OC and DC, not Bo. Not yet, anyway. But even a guy like myself who personally likes Bo and wanted to see him stay knows that something had to be done if we want to take the next step. Will we end up better or worse in the long run? Well, that remains to be seen. I will say, if we don't get better results there are some folks in the administration who should expect to lose their jobs as well. This hire will need to be a home run.

Excellent post Ted and I concur 100%.

ANY Head Coach at the University of Nebraska deserves far better than the toxic environment detractors created from day one for Pelini. The undercutting from Perlman, a couple of select (one former) Regent, and yes, message board AD's, started at the moment of his hiring, and only amplified as time went on.

NU fans should be "better than that".

I'm well aware of who pays a coach's salary.

Some seem unaware of who ultimately pays for the buyouts brought about by stupid Administrative decisions.

He tied for two, losing to the other team in the tie, and won more than nine twice.

And how many contenders were in that Conference? How many scholarships were allowed? How many Conference Championship Games were there?

The comment was directed at the fans' patience, not the far different animal college football was back then.
