16 Players Hit the Portal in 48 Hours -- Crazy

I don't think those guys were thinking portal for the NIL. They may be looking for playing time. Big money in the NIL is for less than 10 % of the players. The vast majority of portal players don't get NIL. They find whatever level of college football gets them the opportunity to play. I get it. You may want to be part of the Huskers, but four years of grinding it out on the bench can make the thought of playing regularly at a Group of 5 look pretty appealing.

I don't like when players transfer, but I 100 understand their desire to go somewhere where they can play.

It's part of the reason why Devine Ozigbo is one of my favorite Huskers. Dude came in as like a 2* with, I think, no P4 offers. Started out like 6th string and just kept grinding and working his way up the depth chart. Due to necessity, he started a couple games, was benched, went back to 2nd or 3rd string and just stuck with it. By his senior year, Frost's 1st year, he won the #1 RB spot and held onto it the rest of the season. Never publically complained, never publically talked about transferring, just kept grinding. His best run of his career was against Illinois...just as a refresher...

The run I am referencing is at ~29 second point of the video.

The other 'dirty, little secret' about the portal is that at a number of schools, it's the coaches bluntly telling some of their players "it's time to hit the road, Jack."

We do it as well but it's treated more as an 'honest assessment' from coach to player: (i.e. if you want to play, I'm afraid you'll need to go elsewhere. But hey, we'll help you find a good fit for you.)

It probably shows how few return kickoffs , and those that do don’t have much success.

I kinda wish he’d stay though. Someone like Iowa could probably feature his skill set in various ways.

Let's see how he does without Ek coaching the other 10 guys on the field. He may have an inflated sense of his value. We didn't use him in the backfield where we were looking for ANYONE to spell EJ.

I saw Dan Patrick today - just to give an idea of what is going - there is a long snapper this season that DID NOT enter the portal and had over 25 calls asking "what is your number" from mostly P4 schools. He told them all he was not in the portal and happy where he is....but they contacted him anyway. It is a complete $hitshow right now.

That feels like tampering - but there really aren't any rules preventing it right now.

I hope Kenneth Williams stays. Let him be a RB who returns kicks for pete's sake.

Thats what he was here. He wants to be on the field taking offensive snaps. That probably wasnt going to happen here. Thats why hes entering the portal.

I know that. What I don't trust is our offensive coaches and their judgment. Emmett Johnson was what, 3rd / 4th string for all of his freshman and 75% of his sophomore year? Holgorsen came in, saw Johnson was the best RB and suddenly he became RB #1 towards the end of his sophomore year and never looked back.

So now they're saying that Kenneth Williams isn't what we need / want at RB?

Given how off and wrong they were about EJ, I really don't trust their judgment in re: Kenneth Williams.
