Roster movement

The self-proclaimed “Sackman” has inspired me. If ever I leave my wife, I’m going to write a letter to her family saying how great it was to be with her, but….
I was going to post a follow-up that my initial reaction to William's tweet was not personal because a lot of players post nonsense like this when departing, but the more I thought about it, it is personal. Think about it.

Williams was a lightly regarded and lightly recruited player out of high school, and Nebraska gave him the "chance" of a lifetime. He came to a program that has gone nearly a decade to reach the lofty goal of becoming bowl eligible. They finally reach the Lucky .500 this season and go bowling, and he puts his name in the portal with no thought to finishing what was started this season...no thought to giving the new hires a "chance" (sound familiar, JDub?). So, then he tries to wax poetic about his time in Lincoln, as if the fans are going to send him off with a "We'll miss you, James!" tribute. The honorable thing to do would have been to give Coach Rhule a chance with the new hires and make his decision after Spring ball if things aren't what he hoped. Nope. He bailed on Husker Nation like that chick did to Randy VanWarmer all those years ago (Youuuuu left me, just when I needed you most!).

Two words for you JDub...GTFOHYPOS. Over the top? Probably. Just leave, James Williams.

to be fair we don't know what conversations he has had with the coaches after all and whatever else is going on behind the scenes

Good news. All these guys jumping into the portal without a backwards glance- Matt Rhule doesn't have to waste any of his time talking about your "high effort" and coachability. He won't have to reach out to his coaching connections to help you find options..

Here's something guys running to the portal need to think about. Everybody has to get their rosters down to 105. There are going to be WAY MORE guys entering the portal than there are roster spots available. This has been the case the past portal classes and is going to be MASSIVELY increased this year. A lot of these guys are going to be thinking they will get big NIL money when there might not be a roster spot for them. While it seems there are millions and millions of NIL dollars out there (and there is) it is almost exclusively with the big programs. 20 to 30 schools will have over $15 million in NIL funds. That's maybe 3000 roster spots on Big Bucks universities. A lot of that is going to their top players ALREADY ON THE ROSTER! So there may be 100-200 big NIL deals available. How many Power 4 guys are entering the portal? Assume 30 per school at a minimum, let's say 2000. I'm being conservative here. So if you aren't in the top 5-10%. just be glad you get a scholarship to the Akron Zips. ...and forget about dear old NU. We'll have no problem forgetting you.

Well said. I see this a couple of ways. White may be trying to pull a Cignetti and take a team with him to FSU or these guys are testing the waters to see if they can get the big bucks. If they find the money or not remains to be seen. I have a feeling because of what you have stated above, many won't and as you say some may not even find a team. We will have to see if some try to come back and if Rhule takes them back. We may end up with a DC who brings a group of players with him as well. We will have to wait and see.

From what I have been reading, Rhule and White were not on the same page. Rhule wanted him to expand his defense in a way that would apply greater pressure on the QB. That may be what was needed this year. Seems like when they were good, they were very good. On the other hand, in some games they stunk. I think Rhule is always looking to improve his team, and some coaches do not like being pushed out of their comfort zone.

Maybe he heard we had a feature back transferring in and the guy was so good EJ figured he wouldn't get off the bench. (wishful thinking)

Parker might be that back. Booth has a pretty impressive record as well. Might be another Danny Woodhead.

Is it possible he is angling for a better NIL deal to come back? I just can’t understand why he’d think there is a better opportunity than what he has in Lincoln. Hope Dowdell stays put.

Anything is possible but Rhule said several weeks ago he's not going to beg people to stay. He wants to win and win now. So chances are once in the portal if you come out it's not back to Nebraska, unless certain conditions and trust is met with your teammates.
