B1G...We knew it was coming and now it's official.

I never said the rest of the league wants to kick us out. In fact, I think most B1G fans feel Nebraska is a natural fit for the conference. But that said, what makes the B1G unique is that it's an academic conference as well as an athletic one.

Thanks to Nebraska's recruiting over the past two decades, the University's student enrollment and -- just as importantly - the academic profile of its students has grown to B1G-like levels, but it would be naive to believe there aren't any lingering concerns in some (academic) quarters that UNL is not worthy of being associated with schools like, Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern, Wisconsin, and Ohio State.

Having Nebraska recognized as a B1G institution along with schools like Illiinois and Michigan is huge. You can't put a price tag on how much that means financially to the City of Lincoln, the State of Nebraska and UNL alumni across the nation and around the world.
We have gotten a hell of a lot more research dollars as a B1G school than we got as a member of the B12. One of the reasons that Lincoln was quick to ditch the NSF to GI. They needed those old buildings gone so they could build their new research facility, up to B1G standards.

The Pac12 and Big10 have publicly declared they don’t care about their students, athletes, alumni, or fans They represent an ever-shrinking, bitter, radical group of anti-science alarmists who have been trying to destroy football for years

Let's talk about the science then.
1. Barry Alvarez has said that the FB teams will still get to practice and work out for 20 hours per week. They won't be sitting isolated at home away from campuses either. They will be in school and still working out and practicing football. They just won't be playing games. That makes no scientific sense at all if the point is to keep them safe from Covid.
2. All students, not just student athletes will be at risk back on campus. Dorms are like docked cruise ships. That makes no scientific sense at all if the point is to keep them safe from Covid.

Playing football is a public activity though and draws much more attention. This is about perception and liability and not about science.

I just wish that the Big 10 Commish and university presidents would have just come out and said that they want to see how things go with schools opening back up the next month. That they would see what numbers look like, see how things are and then revisit the season. They could have pushed the season start back to the end of September and said we will see how things are at the end of August. This is what the SEC, ACC and BIg 12 are doing. They may not have a season either but they are least look like they have prepared something rather than sending out schedules, a week later cancelling the season, and not really detailing what changed to drive that decision.

Questioning the application of science is reasonable - but I have to agree with SOC here. If we want to debate how B1G's medical team said no while Big 12 says yes - fair game.

You ok with it if those schools go along with us?
As I stated earlier, part of me would be thrilled to see the Huskers play this fall while another part of me wonders what we're doing trying to play football in the midst of a pandemic.

I liken it to eating a bowl of ice cream and getting a dirty look from my wife.

Hey SOC you can take up half of all conversations or threads but if someone has a different point then you ban them or delete... typical. I'll save you the trouble alright. Nice knowing all you folks. I have no idea where this SOC came from. Probably Minneapolis.

Come on, innmc! Don't leave!

We're all royally P'O'ed by the situation. But the mods have (IMHO) been pretty tolerant of some political stuff seeping into these discussions. I'm guessing the very reason for the no politics rule is we DON'T want good posters like yourself getting upset (whatever the politics) and leaving.

Hang in there, man. First and foremost, we're all Huskers. GBR!

Put me in a bad mood yesterday and I still am today I guess.

I need a vacation.

Don’t take it in the parking lot of Memorial Stadium. That’s probably where he’s crying. A bottle of Jack in one hand, and I don’t even want to guess what’s in the other hand.
