B1G...We knew it was coming and now it's official.

No the B1G holds all the cards. Period.
This ^^^^^^^

Frost saying what he said is one thing. But the 'we're all with him' follow-up line by Moos, the Chancellor, and the President was quite another.

DONU has made quite a few dumb moves over the past 25 years. I sure as hell hope they don't make the Granddaddy Dumb Move of All-Time by defying the B1G Commish.

I would love to go wildcard and put together a Big 8 schedule plus a few games.

But Warren has said if we play we are out of the B1G.....that sounds like a no go to me.

Maybe we pursue legal action to stay in the B1G while we play? Don't see how we could do that in a few weeks time - unless we can get an injunction and settle it later.....but not sure it makes sense to do that.

Maybe coach Frost sees a way to go back to the big 12..... We could be King of the North again pretty easy. Practically in the championship game every year, and recruiting in Texas again-fertile ground. -------Nah, it's not possible!!!??!

Hey guys like I said....this is gonna get U G L Y before the dust settles.
I like Coach Frost's fire and commitment to his team and players but....and here is the kicker.....what alot of people are not talking about is the recruits....then there is the whole shelf life thing to consider....Spring is not going to be any better and I can see that getting ugly also so I'm afraid I agree this ain't over by a dang sight....
I reached out to the few players Kate and I know on the team and have heard back from all of them....their reactions range from all out anger to subdued sadness...gut reactions are powerful but more times than not they aren't productive.
Some wonder why bust their butts with no carrot dangling at the end....some say damn the torpedoes full speed ahead but the vast majority say patience, keep working till they shut that down and be prepared so as you can see the emotions are running everyplace....so yeah this ain't over by a dang sight. I wish it were otherwise but I'm telling you like it is. Thank God for the reinstatement of the Leadership Council....one of the smartest things Frosty has done to date.

DOC HOLIDAY.

I have no desire to return to anything big 8 or big 12 if Texas and Oklahoma are part of it. I know some old timers love OU but as I see it they chose TU over Nebraska and I have a long memory. Frost does not schedule games, Moose does.

Sadly, if the SEC and ACC plays and the B10 does not, it's going to kill the B10. They should know this.
Flip side - if the ACC, B12 and SEC play and super spreader events occur around football resulting in cancelling the season 3 or 4 games in.........the liability issues from those events will kill those conferences while the B10 looks smark as heck.

Now you understand what is being discussed in the halls of B1G schools.....this is mostly about liability risk outweighing the financial gain from playing games.......and the unknowns of what is going to happen when kids are on campus and games are played. If schools shutdown because of on campus spread unrelated to football THAT still likely kills football - you can't have football if the players are not allowed on campus.

Good counterpoint. I said this a few times months ago and it still stands today. We won't know what happens until someone tries it. Whatever it is, be it opening up restaurants, bars, playing football, etc. The one thing that seems to work is the bubble concept. But that's about it.

Yes and these three conferences: SEC, Big12 and ACC are in a bubble but not the bubble we are talking about. :happy0188:

Fox and Disney might rethink how much they are willing to invest in a conference that might just cancel the season. Plus, how ticked off are big10 fans going to be every Saturday when they turn on their TV and other teams are playing but ours aren't?

Well thankfully the Big 10 and Pac 12 are so concerned that they aren't having students on campus to start school soon........oh wait. You are right, their concern is the high profile liability if something happens to an athlete. But if the finance sophomore from Murdock has something happen, no big deal.
Not once did I hear either the Big 10 or Pac 12 commissioner say well we had this change in the last week and its of such a huge concern that we have forwarded all the info we have to every other conference so that they take into account the well being of not only every athlete but every student coming back to campus.
Just say, we don't want Justin Fields to get sick or have an outbreak in Ann Arbor because we would have to pay up billions.
Or maybe its the whole "weareunited" college athlete organized group being prominent in the Big 10 and Pac 12 and the leadership of those conferences really doesn't want to deal with it.
They had 5 months to figure something out. They didn't. Spring isn't going to be any better and there is no way to have 2 football seasons next year in an 8 month time frame.

Not likely. Maybe if we played and had like 5 players die they'd vote to kick us out. If they do prior to that outcome, which everybody knows won't happen, and we play the rest of the conference is going to come down on the commissioner hard. "They played and were fine, so why couldn't we?" This isn't a Mexican standoff. We hold all of the cards.
If the Big 10 holds the TV, broadcast and media rights to a Nebraska football game, then they hold some pretty big cards.

Part of the agreement in turning over our media rights included a guarantee on the other end of some sort. I have no idea what that was or how it was structured, but I'm pretty sure it didn't include a provision for the conference to take away 100 million dollars in revenue in a single year. Even if there was a non-compete clause, if they are too wide-reaching, courts regularly declare them invalid.

If tv and media rights are owned by the Big10 and we played Oklahoma on ESPN, all that would mean is that the conference could argue that they are entitled to our share of the payout. They can't say that we aren't allowed to play on TV, just that we can't profit off of it.

So teams will be allowed to continue practicing and training for 20 hours per week but just won't be able to play games. How does that make sense in preventing Covid transmission?
Imagine being told or asked to stay on campus, practice all fall, then possible all spring with no guarantee of playing anytime soon.
Yea, there are some major changes coming with regards to student athletes.

Just in case you missed it Crazy, here's a link to the B1G commish's comments:

Big Ten commissioner shoots down Nebraska’s hopes of playing outside conference this season

Very succinctly: “No,” he said, firmly. “Not and be a member of the Big Ten Conference.”

I'm sure I know who holds all the cards. Our record has been dismal (being nice) since we joined the B1G and I'm betting they could replace DONU in the blink of an eye.

And I'm hoping that this is about the last headline I see about Frost wanting to go Rogue. It's not a good fit, IMO.

Saddens me to read that guy's take. I would imagine that there'll be more pieces along the same lines. Seems like an absolute PR train wreck.

Feels like NU has really given itself a black eye with an approach that had a totally predictable outcome.

How Moos/the admins/Frosty thought this would be a good thing baffles me.

The head of the Bog 10 is a complete failure who can't give you a straight answer without talking around it. Whatm am doofus.

OK, but he seemed straightforward in his reply to the question of whether we play in the fall and remain in the BIG...
