Who still has confidence in this staff?

You cant really say that McCaffrey wouldnt do the same thing. He wasnt asked to pass in the one game he got real playing time. What did he throw 2 passes? And then against Iowa his option was easy as JD didnt have anyone within 15 yards of him. His second play he held on to the ball, and held on to the ball etc and scrambled for a 2 yard gain. Hard to judge what would have happened off of two plays.
Nailed it.
LM was in for a few packages. World of difference when everything is to be expected and looking damn good in a package that had the defense confused.
I really like LM, but, the coaches are there every practice, even if some insist they wear blinders when doing so.

I think he's been hanging out with Redman101

Probably same IP address. To be totally honest, I seldom read his posts. They tend to be long, no spacing, improper sentence structure, weirdly formatted paragraphs, spelling issues galore, punctuation errors all over the place, etc. Nitpicky? Maybe, but it makes reading that stuff very difficult, so I don't. Throw in the weird themes and it's just damn hard to follow.

Actually, McCafrey created that 15 yard spce for JD by faking the run and the DB biting on that fake. His scramble went for 4 yards on 2nd and 9 making it 3rd and 5 only to be nullified by a penalty that then made it 2nd and 20. Then AM reinserted and he runs out of bounds instead of staying inbounds forcing Iowa to take their final TO, then running the ball again and piunting with maybe a few seconds left. Who knows maybe McCaffrey gets us 10 yards on 2nd and 20 making it 3rd and 10 and perhaps he gets anothe 8 or so yards and has us in FG range. Who knows though? He was never in the game, but since he's faster, quicker, and more agile than AM, I believe he would've made a huge difference if he had played the last 2 drives we had.

Thats very possible, future looks bright with LM, but, I still wonder how much LM has under his belt, and adding to that, instead of being creative, or, sticking to the script in a package, can he stick to the script under live fire? Does he know what he needs to know?

If so, he should have played.

Good question. Here's my thing he saw extensive action against Indiana until he got hurt then again against Maryland. Not once di he have a negative play running or passing. Heck against Maryland he had what 80 yards rushing? Something like that. If nothing else on those last 2 drives have Luke out there if not as a QB as a WR like he was against Maryland. He's a threat to run, throw, or catch. He provides another extremely fast person that the defense has to account for and who do you have cover him if he doesn't throw? And If he was just playing QB, IMO, if he runs with the ball he gets at least 4 or 5 yards every carry. I think he pops some of those for 10 or 15 yards because of his speed and Iowas defense had been on the field a long time.

I see some on this board trying to compare Frost with Saban and Osborne. These comparisons are flawed. TO had been on the NU staff for nearly two decades and knew every team in the Big 8 like the back of his hand. SF and no one on his staff has ever coached or even played in the Big10. They are still learning what Big10 football is all about and the trends of the coaches. Saban had been a HC for many years and took over a program that ran systems similar to his. His experience allowed him to avoid learning mistakes that Frost is making and the existing players were suited for his schemes. Frost on the other hand is a baby coach, he is learning on the run. He runs an ulnique system that takes players with unique skills. Half the players on his D were also recruited for a 4-3 system.

Frost is missing some pieces he needs to make his system work. We need to be patient while he recruits those difference makers and learns how to coach in the Big10.

You both nailed it. It's like evaluating someone on lifetime achievement against a one hit wonder.

Now having said that, I really don't know who should be playing qb. AM really struggled on many levels this year, but I wasn't at the practices to know why he was still anointed.

And on the first play that was my point. They gave him an RPO and since all he had done in his previous action was run no one expected him to pass therefore JD was wide open. It wansnt McCaffery just deciding to take off like you make it sound it was a designed play.
And your right who know? No one. We can all spectulate what would have happened but no one knows for sure. Maybe he gets sacked and fumbles since he was cold coming off the bench. Maybe he get loose and runs for a TD. Maybe if the BS block call wasnt made and it was 3rd and 5 we would have won the game? Who knows. Thats why you cant say "if Frost would have left McCaffrey in we would have won".

My thoughts are, if LM keeps on track, and AM doesn't turn it around, SF has a tough decision to make. He might anyways because we don't know LMs ceiling.Looking at AMs playmaking in '18, we all thought sure fire hit,but Colorado and the knee, he hasn't been the same ever since, he's slowed,it's as if, when in the pocket,he knows to scramble or take off, but can't elude guys he has some space on, like, his timing is off where in a split second earlier he should have taken off, or, he no longer has what he thinks he has.

AM isnt playing terrible, but he's out of sync with himself it appears to me.

Then there's Luke coming on, and hopefully, gaining the weight he'll need, wont slow him, which then gets me wondering, the knee the shoulder on AM,add in the added weight, it may be his body hasnt adapted, while his mind is still back when he was fully healthy.

Actually it was. Being at the game you see much more of how plays open up than you do on TV. McCaffrey rolled to his left while going backwards a bit, giving the DB the initial indication he was going to run. This play came right at me in the stadium. The DB froze at that point (trying to decipher whether to help his buddies out or stay on his man) and JD took off and was wide open for LM to throw the pass. I saw the same replay on TV and it doesn't do justice what LM did and how he made that play work.

I guess my question to you should be,looking at everything we do know, not that as fans we are privy to much of what's taking place, how long do you think things start turning around?
And, at least in my question,I'm not expecting a ucf type either.
Well actually we don't know diddly squat. SF won't even let people know if AM is hurt or not. Must be the result of working for that jewel, Ron Prince.

I thought we had turned the corner second half of last season. Even our 5-7 could easily have been 3-9. It also could have been 7-5 or 8-4 with a little bit of luck. I can't even hazzard a guess as to what next season is going to shake out at. I would hope 6-6 or 7-5 but I just don't have a clue. Depends on if SF does a bit of soul searching during the off season and shakes up his coaching staff, also depends on if LM or AM is the starter.

You see, two areas that haven't improved or has regressed. Each one dependent on the team overall.
The LBs get their most help from the D line, and a qb has the run game, the wideouts and the O line for help lifting his play.
In both those positions, both appeared to have gone backwards, with one having more there to help them with, the other, less.
At LB, our D line was improved by depth and having Darrion at NT. But even so, the backers struggled with communication, trust and seeing plays develope within their physical ability to effect the play.
At qb, the running backs eventually got to where we'd left off last year, but,our wrs never showed up to the potential of having Stan and JD out there, Wandale was needed too much at rb instead of wr,due to being so thin at rb, and the line started backwards from last years less than stellar play, but finally reached or even slightly exceded that level, but only in the last three games.

Then, you add in coaches knowing your tendencies on offense etc, and a possible hurt AM, if we'd seen this at the beginning of the year, we might wonder the outcome, well, weve just witnessed it.
Now, next year,O line best weve had in years, one way or another with true depth.
Rb, same as these last two years, but we did finish 3rd in our rushing conf. Plus more depth.
Qb, the question is, will AM get himself right, add in a more seasoned LM, more depth.
Wr, another question mark, as we have yet to see any new options other than Wandale, but we will have much greater talent and depth.
D line, at tackle, we should be fine, but losing Darrion hurts at NT, but depth is fine, and maybe his lil bro or Hut or Ty makes us not miss him much, but potentially more depth.
LB, who knows? Who we lose should be easily replaced, we do have some potential here but they haven't played, we also are bringing in jucos as well, but until they make plays?
We will be bigger and faster and stronger here, plus more depth.

DBs a d safety, we are fine.

So, knowing our schedule is tougher, not knowing how good our youth movement is, we still should exceed this year.
But, one common thing, we have vastly improved our depth.

I'm adopting the Missouri "Show Me" mentality. I did actually live there for a year and a half so I'm entitled.

Just hoping for solid improvement which will translate to more wins. I'll tell you what I think this time next year.

Oh, its time for show me, no doubt, and I think we will see it.

Question is, how much? People that are ticked at this staff were the first to point out, going from ofer to 13-0 like at ucf, just isnt possible in the Big.
Ok, no doubt, it's only been done once ever, but, how much are those cry babies expecting?
We will go bowling next year, put money on it, and ,I hate gambling.
