What were the best games against Oklahoma?

I agree with you, CH. I said what I said because I wasn't at the 2001 game and some fans who were at both told me the Crouch run was louder. But I'll happily stick with you on this one.

Also...........A possible national championship wasn't on the line but our Hail Mary against Northwestern was an absolute Sonic Boom if ever I've heard one.

I was in Aviano, Italy on Med cruise and was lucky to get to watch the game on TV. That being the case I can't compare the 1978 and 2001 games for loudness. The Husker fans had a great time in both cases.

In keeping with the thread title, I would have to say 1971 OU game....after all, it is called the "Game of the Century".

Favorite memories.

71, I am a young boy just starting to understand football. My dad bet me a dollar OU would win and we both set our dollars on the TV box. I was mesmerized by the rugged tear away jersey Kinney wore and of course JR Superstar's impossible magic. For the love of God bring back the tear away.
74. I was at this one. Remember right before half Dave Humm of a people was running down field and ran out of bounds without being hit. I was perturbed.
75- Radio only. Seems like they tore us to threads.

76- Those sobs stole one on trick plays. Switzer told Osborne before the game he'd better win that day or it'll be a while. He had a great sophomore class, but he was wrong. Elvis Peacock.

78- favorite game of all time. That Ruud hit was and still is the best smack I've ever seen. Rumors in the stands he was dead. Never seen a call like that as Doc eluded to. I actually think it won the game for us. Our coach and players took it up a notch.

78- played in a bowl game in one of the biggest 'what the hell is this' of all time. Missouri beats the next week in an epic battle. The coldest game I'd been to. Me and my friend get separated from my dad and have to walk home several miles. Disappointed and frozen to the bones I turn on the TV and hear the awful news. We are assigned Oklahoma in the bowl game. It was surreal...unbelievable.

Could go on but I'll relay one more.

The never seen before size and speed of Marcus Dupree. He had two runs against us for about 80 yards. He broke the line and it was a man among boys. He was an incredible athlete. Switzer claimed he was not of this world.

To those too young. Here are some Marcus Dupree highlights. Keep in mind he is a few months out of high school. He is bigger than most inside linebackers but has Taylor Martinez acceleration. He was said to be the most highly recruited player.....ever.
He had his head coach livid when he showed up for the Fiesta Bowl practices out of shape, 20 lbs overweight. He ran the ball 17 times for 239 yards, a record that still stands.
Something like him had never been seen before. Unfortunately he had other issues and didn't get along with Switzer. He flamed out of football as fast as he appeared.

I remember seeing Marcus Dupree play in 1982 and saying out loud, "I can't believe he's eighteen!."

For whatever its worth, I never made that exclamation in a college football game again until this year---and this fall I did it numerous times. :)

Navy, I was in Aviano in 1972 on vacation and had the best food in the world. What a delightful place.

Just looked it up, the chancellor canceled classes on Monday after the game! And my high school PE teacher score the TD on the blocked punt.

That was Lee Zentic? Wow, I had no idea he was a former Husker. I should have been a lot nicer to that guy.

I had a slacker buddy who used to smoke in the locker room while we were getting dressed for PE (he wasn't even in that class, just liked to skip class). Zentic once told him "it would be worth losing my career to hit you just once." Ah...I miss those old East High days.

Had him for a gym teacher in a very brief Lincoln East career. He was pretty intense but a likeable guy. I transferred to another city school. Their gym teacher was also an NU football alum. Jimmy Burrow was a student teacher in my junior high. He seemed pretty disinterested in the whole thing.

Just amazing, the speed, the size and the power. I've heard it described of Dupree that he was the best that never was.
