Greg Bell leaves the team

Dumb kids that didn't bother to understand the rule. 4 games and you can redshirt. If you graduate you don't have to sit out a year after playing 4 games. Otherwise you have to sit out next season if you go to an FBS school. Only way you don't sit out, besides graduating, is to move down a division.

I suspect Bell has no clue what he is doing. Doesn't matter though. The offense is fine without him. Next season he would likely have been 4th or 5th string anyways. Those kids committed to this class are much better athletes.
Sounds like the typical "well the kid left so he was not that good and would have been past up by everyone coming in. Could it happen, yes, would it have, we will never know.

Sounds more like, 'hey everyone, we're building something thats been left to rot, everyone in grab a hammer, if not, I dont have time or enough hands to hold yours, as I'm nailing with both of mine' thing to me, and that is very evident.

I remember a time when a pretty good QB name Eric Crouch came close to leaving NU. At that time many fans like many on this board said let him go who needs a quitter. Fortunately the coaches were a little more tolerant. They massaged his ego a little and he stuck.

Part of being a competitive player is to have a lot of confidence in yourself. Many of them also have huge egos. You don't get to be a top 50 recruit or the number one JC player without a lot of talent. I agree that these players had yet to raise eyebrows at NU. However, anyone who is paying attentions will notice that few players on this team are.

We should all remember that these kids are playing in a new offense. They are not sure of their assignments, they don't know what to expect from their teammates, the line is not great, they have not established a link with the QB. It is not hard to see where a kid might feel lost.

While it is easy to sit on your couch and say these guys just need to shut up and suck it up, you need to remember the program needs players with this type of talent. Both of these players have the potential to be game changers and NU has been woefully short of game changers lately. I am sad to see them leave.
So how does the coaching staff get players to not want to transfer "since our most talented and best are leaving"? Play them regardless of mistakes? Give in to their needs instead of the needs of the team? Like you said, it's easy to sit on your couch and say these things....but what you say? Help us help you Cigarman.

Just because the coaches don't yell obscenities at the kids or yell at them in practice, it doesn't mean that the coaches don't speak bluntly to them in meetings or privately. My guess is that Bell leaving wasn't a big surprise to them. Physical gifts are one thing but attitude is everything.

When I was managing people, my boss once said that even people you have to fire have usually fired themselves first.

Northwood I think he will miss the boat when it gets righted and I agree with it looks as if he took his ball and went home. I am just not going to claim he would be 4th string because he left.

Bell was playing at a JUCO last year for a reason.

He may have taken his ball, but like Seinfeld,
No osus for you mr bell

A blessing in disguise. Now the i-back picture is cleared up....fire and ice. Devin Ozigbo and Maurice washington, one-two punch, speed and power.

A good start would be to talk to Tom Osborne. He was very good at keeping players. Communication is the key. You tell them they have lost the start, why you made you decision and what they need to do to regain the start. Yes, you might have to take time from your busy schedule to massage his ego or talk with his parents. It goes with coaching. Frost is making top 10 coach money. It is time he started acting like a top 10 coach. But you can keep making excuses for him.

Has someone told you that Frost and Held did not talk to the players who were leaving? You have inside sources?

You seem to know for a fact that Frost has not taken these steps that you list, otherwise you wouldn't tell him to "start acting like a Top 10 coach", am I correct? Otherwise, how could you make such a statement if you didn't know exactly what he has or hasn't done? So then, please tell us exactly what has transpired, because I'm real curious......:Iono3:

I know for a fact that Frost and the appropriate coaches did have direct contact with the players who have left.

It sounds like the only thing you would accept is a 100% retention rate.

Not possible.

Alvarez lost 50 players his first year. Frost: two.

No that is not my take at all. This all started because I said I was not happy that good players were leaving the program. Some sunshine pumper asked me how to keep players and I told him. No one here knows what occurred that drove these kids to leave. The fact is that two very talented kids are gone. Both were playing, one had several starts. Now they are gone. How can that be good?

I'll leave that up to you. I am assuming you are listening while you are licking his balls.
Wow, what a miserable asshat......Why dont you just admit that you dont like the guy, instead of making up all this crap that you don't have any idea is true. Pathetic....

Because- as has been said ad infinitum, they were not playing hard enough to be number one, they weren't happy riding the pine, one, Bell, then was publicly mopey about it.
They didn't want to be here if they were gonna ride the bench and thus, not be great team players and strive every day hoping for their chance. Why is ANY of that worth keeping?

And while WE ARE ALL AT IT - let's keep this discussion civil - no need to be pejorative, call names (and that includes sunshine pumpers, asshats and whatever else...
Keep it clean gang.

No explanation needed by Frost. Ozigbo earned this previous weeks start. Character check for Bell and he failed. Better he quits now instead of in the middle of a game. Once you coddle one you have to coddle all of them. Grow the freak up and work harder. That's the message this coaching staff is sending and I agree with it. That's called accountability and I'm sure I heard SF mention that on numerous occasions.

I wonder how many said MR or Bo let too many things get by?
If it comes down to previous actions by staff vs this staff, I'll take this staff every day.
Sometimes theres a fit problem, but theres a lifetime treasure to be learned if they stay, and it doesnt include chapstick or cats.
